Confirmed Trade: [SJS/DET] Jake Walman and 2024 2nd round pick for future considerations

It’s a second round pick to move a guy no one wanted. For all we know he did offer the world the same second round pick for Chiarot but people wanted the offensive guy in Walman. That’s actually not true. The only team in the league that would take Walman and a second was SJ. Everyone else declined. I don’t understand how this is a slam dunk on Yzerman that he had to take one on the chin to move a guy, when no one else in the league wanted the guy. Well played SJ, who just wanted to use their cap space to get extra picks and would take on the things no one else would….and found a good player. He’s incentivized obviously by the move, and good for him for being so. Just don’t suspended by your own team again and it’s a win for everyone.

Ps. He also needed room for the Trouba would be deal.

I mean he's already been scratched for off-ice reasons in SJ. He was healthy scratched down the stretch with Detroit. Rumors were that certain players were not popular and didn't have the right attitude. 1+1+1.

My guess is Walman will not be part of San Jose's roster when they start competing.

Even if you want to think it's only about the on-ice play; Walman was mostly a trainwreck last season.

Still could’ve gotten rid of him for nothing but chose to pay a 2nd anyway. Either way, it’s a negative for Yzerman. How bad of one is debatable but pretty undeniable that it is one.

For those who don’t have the background on Walman being “scratched” in San Jose, he reported that he missed a mandatory off-day treatment for an injury (essentially violating a team rule) based on a misunderstanding. The coach stated he would not play in the next game for a non-injury related issue, which was widely reported as him being a healthy scratch. He ended up missing that game as well as the next 4 due to the injury. Meaning, he didn’t miss any games he otherwise could have played so the notion he was scratched is a bit misleading.
