I still say I'd like DL to go after Europe and college free agents a little harder. Especially with how thin our pipeline is right now.

Agreed. We are also missing the lockerroom stuff from Mitchell and Williams. Williams in particular was a rock in that room and a man possessed when the chips were down. I've told this story before, but it was Williams who rallied the troops pre-game six in the 2012 SCF. It wasn't Brown or anyone else, but Williams.

Oh, and something I heard that made me think: giving the captaincy and the keys to the franchise to Brown would have been akin to SJ doing the same with Ryan Clowe. Both players had short peak shelf lives, both played a tenacious power forward style, and both are pretty useless these days. Difference is that SJ moved on from Clowe, who was a beloved player there during his peak.

Not saying SJ is the model franchise at all, but it's an interesting comparison. Still believe that Kopitar should have been given the C back in 2008. I think the C vastly overinflates the value of intangible try hard guys like Brown, Callahan, etc. I don't think Lombardi would have given him near the retirement contract if he's wearing an A or less.

Just rambling at this point, though. Maybe I'm wrong with all that.

No way that's even a comparable . Clowe couldn't lead a team though a buffet line. Brown has show he can do it in spades, and has. I think it has more to do with his contract than anything else and that he wears the C. So what happen when the next so call "Captain" declines, does everyone turn on him because he's making 9 mil a year?

If he's playing like Brown? Yes. Same as every other fanbase in the NHL

Kings have led for 4:02.
Sharks have led for 122:17.
Tied for 116:58.

Few Kings players have shown up for a playoff series, and they're just hanging on during the games. Hoping they can catch a break, instead of getting one. It's more like 2010 and 2011, than 2012-2014, but it feels worse.

Watched the final 3 min, the Kings only got 1 SOG by Scuderi, everything else was blocked, including the final 4 shots.

Sounds about right, nothing is working.

Comments on the front page are massive over-reactions... Trade Toffoli!? Lucic as one of the worst trades? Some of you guys need to keep your neurosis in check.

Kings don't make the playoffs with Lucic, period. If he get's a contract, then it's a bigger issue and then can be determined a flub.

There are clear cut issues and the defense is NOT GOOD, but this isn't a team that needs a massive overhaul.

This league is competitive and all the credit goes to the Fishies.

Feels worse because we're on the down swing instead of the upswing.

Kings PK killed them today, the Sharks puck movement during the PP was scary to watch. Very little hesitation, just constant movement, making the defense chase the puck until they found looks they wanted, and shot immediately.

The problem isn't that the kings aren't in "playoff mode" or playing their best, The Sharks have just been making them look bad, 1 line at a time for most of the series. Not saying they are the better team, but they for sure have been the better team this series so far.

Positive notes from the game:
Kings did look dominant for a few stretches of the game
Schenn was an asset to the team
Quick is playing well

Lucky for us, there is more hockey to play, all kings have to do to get to the next round is win 1 game at a time.

It's not over until the handshake line and these guys have at least one more chance in front of the home crowd to extend the series. I think the refs will stop calling ***** not-even-a-minor-in-the-regular-season penalties tomorrow which will give the Kings a better chance.

That being said, I continue to stand by my assertion that this team is not any better than the 2015 team that we all **** on last season but everyone was blinded by OT wins. How is this roster better? Addition by subtraction with Stoll/Richards? I can get behind that except come playoff time, we are missing Stoll's grit big time. Hell, even Richards for all his horrible play was still a competitor out there which is more than I can say for Nick Shore in Game 2. The defense is obviously not as good as last year as far as personnel goes no matter where the team finished in goals against.

The big thing though is Williams/Lucic. Lose this series and all those assets were for nothing. Sign Lucic to a big deal and we are in trouble too. Could have signed Williams for two years and kept those assets. How is playoff Lucic looking right now? Jesus Christ. Love the guy but he's been brutal.

This series is really boring. Can I say that? I know there are a lot of hits on the hit counter but there isn't a ton of memorable ones. Not one ****ing fight. If the Kings breathe on a Shark after the whistle, it is a penalty. New coach up there is better than the koala bear they had before and seems to get the message across of staying disciplined. Why shouldn't they stay disciplined though? They look at the six we are trotting out on the blueline and they know they've got it in the bag if they keep their heads on straight.

Sutter really blew it in Game 2 with the lineup changes, especially taking out the only guy who is skating harder than he did in the regular season in Clifford. This team won Cups with one of him/Nolan out there every game getting hits. Mind boggling to put in the worst player on the team in Shore. The Kopitar line that's been put together is something to behold as well.

End of the day, the Sharks best players are killing it and good for them. Thornton looks amazing and I'm getting Pat Kane anxiety whenever Pavelski has the puck. Still, every game has been decided by one goal and SJ couldn't even get one in 5v5 last night for a total of one ****ing 5v5 goal in the two games in SJ. Kings need the refs to go into playoff mode here and quick to have a chance. Part of the reason they are built for the playoffs is that their style works better in a playoff series because the refs call a looser game. They are not doing that here and a ***** team like SJ is reaping the benefits as their PP is awesome and our PK is garbage.

Still have a chance though. Take care of business tomorrow. Play with house money on Sunday. Hope Thornton starts having flashbacks if it goes to 7.

In the 9 games this year:

Pavelski, 8-7-15
Burns, 6-6-12
Thornton, 4-7-11
Hertl, 2-2-4
Couture, 2-2-4
Donskoi, 1-3-4
Ward, 1-3-4
Marleau, 1-3-4

Carter, 3-3-6
Pearson, 1-5-6
Lecavalier, 4-1-5
Toffoli, 3-2-5
Lucic, 1-4-5
Kopitar, 1-3-4
Muzzin, 1-3-4
Brown, 0-4-4
Lewis, 3-0-3
Doughty, 1-2-3
Martinez, 0-3-3
Gaborik, 1-1-2
Schenn, 1-1-2

Lecavalier leads the team in goals. Lewis is tied with Carter and Toffoli.

I was very impressed with Schenn as his "Drew Doughty" hat trick.....

1) A goal........

2) An assist..........

3) And a diving poke check to break up an odd-man rush!!!!! :handclap::handclap::handclap:

We have one game left and everyone is talking about next season. Did we give up when the Germans invaded pearl harbor?! You sad sack of monkey farts better get up and cheer for this damn team until the very end!

I love this team, and it has sucked for most of the time that i watched them. I never thought i would see them lift a cup and now i have seen it twice! Be happy you aren't blues fans. I hate those guys.

We'd shoot the puck wide every time we had an odd-man rush. We also couldn't pass, the puck was bouncing over our sticks. As soon as Carter took that penalty, I knew we'd get scored on.

Credits to the Sharks, they were generating more scoring chances and were good at stopping us from retrieving the puck after a dump in. I'm not convinced that they can make far in the playoffs though, not yet convinced by Jones, it's not like we've been making him work really hard so far.

If we don't sign Lucic I will be furious. We lost Mckeown who could have been a Voynov replacement and a 1st for Sekera and we missed the playoffs. We missed out on Kyle Connor elite player, Colin Miller who could help our defense right now and Williams who could have done as much as Lucic and gave up Jones who is going to be amazing for a first round exit. Not good

That's a little dramatic, we can't hold on the back-ups forever... Quick is #1, there's no denying that.

Also, hardly doubt Colin Miller would be an answer to our defensive woes.

You wouldn't be able to do any better than Dean.

Miller was sent down to the AHL on the Bruins weak D squad. No way he'd be helping us right now. I can't see him making the team when Forbort or Gravel can't.

And we were going to have to trade Jones at some point, so don't see trading him for Lucic as bad.

McKeown still has no identity and is in juniors, Kyle Connor hasn't sniffed the pros yet, Colin Miller was a healthy scratch/AHLer for half of the season for one of the worse defensive teams in the league, and Jones was a backup goalie who wanted to be a starter and seems like he was leveraging RFA status for it.

None of these guys help this year, and it's yet to be seen how much any of them help their future clubs. The only one close to a sure thing imo is Kyle Connor.

I'd do that all again in a heartbeat, DL is trying to keep this team competitive. Now, he's signaled we're going back in a different direction. That hurts, but it's fine--he bought himself a few more years with an outstanding run.

No one is 'happy' with our current situation but this is far too dramatic. I'm not banking on us coming back and winning but even if we're exiting the golden age of Kings hockey, nothing lasts forever.

And I don't see why people are still upset at the Sekera trade. The trade was made after a 9 game winning steak. The team was poised for another playoff push and then he got hurt. **** happens. That's something you can't predict and then he took the money to go to Edmonton. And the fact of the matter is Mckeown was at least 3 or 4 years away from being an impact player. I'd rather have Lombardi as a GM who likes to swing for the fences rather than a GM who is too gun shy.

Who would blow our mind?

Doughty, Quick and Kopitar are going nowhere.

Carter's cap hit is just to low to justify trading him IMO, even if he is taking a step back he is still a bargain.

Muzzin is a bargain

Martinez is a bargain

I would have to guess it would be Toffoli or perhaps Carter if the Kings are worried about the length of his deal.

Carter and Toffoli are the teams best players behind Kopitar and Doughty there is no way they are traded. If they are traded then I will ask for Deans head in the rafters.

I loved Lucic during the regular season but he has been brutal.

My complaint with the Kings for many years is speed.

One of the reasons Lewis looks like the best King out there is because he is the only guy fast enough to keep up with the other team. Same with Carter.

Toffoli has been bad the past few games too. Invisible and gets puck stripped like Lucic. That line is just not hitting.

Fair enough but Miller is more closer to being NHL ready than any other RHD we have in the system.

Agree. But I'm more devastated about losing out on a player of Connors caliber.

True, I am most intrigued by Connor and think he would be perfect for this team some day in the near future. To bad we will never know. I love Lucic and he brings lot more to the team such as I saw more goals scored this year with him parked in front of the net.

With that said our players have just not shown up. No one is performing. I put most of the blame on the players and some of the blame on Sutter for some mind blowing decisions with the roster he makes. And also for riding Quick and Doughty to the ground. Don't tell me who else would we play, Enroth could have handled much more starts and Doughty we'll play other dmen such as Gravel and others little bit more and if it costs us so be it. We still would be in the playoffs with 87 points only needed.

And I don't see why people are still upset at the Sekera trade. The trade was made after a 9 game winning steak. The team was poised for another playoff push and then he got hurt. **** happens. I agree I love that Dean guns for it but that Sekera trade I can never justify. We gave up a 1st rounder which we could have used on a dmen this year and a defensive prospect for 16 games of Sekera. Still gives me nightmares.
