At this point, Demidov is more likely than not to have a better career than Levshunov. I'll concede that. But look at all the dynamic wingers that will be available in free agency or the upcoming draft. Then look at all the legit right handed defensemen that will become available in free agency or the upcoming draft.

Even if Demidov becomes the next Kucherov or Kaprizov, as long as Levshunov becomes a top pairing defensemen, I won't be disappointed as there are other means to acquire dynamic wingers. Forget the box scores for a minute, if you watch Levshunov play, you can see he has all the tools to get there. My main concern right now is his motor as he has looked lackadaisical at times but we'll see if he improves on that.

Is he called up effective today or not until the break starts? Looks like if it is as of today he'd miss 7-8 games for Rockford he could have played.

Seems like an odd decision to make in February, but I'm not going to claim to know which path over only 2-3 weeks is better for him.
It's a great chunk of change for the kid, as he gets his NHL salary for that time frame. Hawks actually do this a lot.

Why are people in a rush to say something like?? There are million things that can go wrong or right in prospects development. Vlasic wasnt much thought of prospect and here we are he is playing first pair minutes. Sure Demidov looks fancy on stat sheet but to declare him as better prospect just few months after draft is nuts. There is a long road for both of them before they reach their seiling if ever.

There are a lot of KHL stars that just didnt make it in NHL.

I agree. I'm just conceding or making a point that even if Demidov has a better or more flashy career, I'd still be ok with the pick. It's very possible that Levshunov has a better career.

I wanted Dem and was vocal about that. But to have our D pairings pretty set for a decade+while other teams rebuilding don't have much, if any, top D prospects I think we are in great shape. It is so much harder to acquire top D and to pick them up in FA is very rare. Lev is progressing nicely it looks like and I like him carrying the play into the O zone when given the chance. In a couple years we will have a better idea what we have in Lev but I am a fan of his after the draft. He seems like a good kid who lost his father young and has shown he is a quick study. His skating for his size is better than I expected and he has a long reach/strong on his skates. And Davidson tried his best to get Dem on top of Lev so shitting on him seems kinda silly.

While Demidov is definitely having a very solid season, I would just like to point out that Josh Leivo is running away with the scoring race in the KHL… Josh Leivo! The same Josh Leivo that bombed out with five NHL franchises. The same Josh Leivo that put up a grand total of 93 points in 265 NHL games. The same Josh Leivo that didn’t even score at a point per game pace in 227 AHL games… him, he has an 11 point lead in the KHL scoring race after putting up 63 points in 47 games this season.

So while thinking about how good Demidov is or may become, just keep that in the back of your mind… Josh Leivo is the runaway leader in the KHL scoring race.

Demidov just the U20 KHL scoring record. Right ahead of Kaprisov, Kuzy and Michkov (last year Michkov couldn't even crack the SKA lineup that Demidov is playing for).

Yes, journeymen often tear up the KHL - that is true. But they dont do it when theyre still prospects and doing it at the age of 19 immediately put you into very very impressive territory.

Honestly, just saying that Demidov "looks fancy on stat sheet" just shows that you don't have enough information gathered on the kid to be commenting on his progression.

Is it enough information to unequivocally say he should’ve been selected ahead of Levshunov, and that he will without a doubt be more impactful in the NHL? That’s probably the much more important issue.

Not sure if already posted?

Demidov's comps are: WAYNE GRETZKY, Paul Kariya, Patrick Kane, Connor McDavid, and Macklin Celebrini

Levshunov's comps are:...AJ Thelen

...I'm sure there's something I'm missing here that explains this with more detail but I don't care what it is at this point. Is that "D1 NHLe = 15" his projected point totals converted from his AHL production?

99 % Star Probability is wild. Anyone that is legitimatley that based on scouting, not box score spreadsheeting extrapolation should have been Unanimous First Overall, not the fifth pick. Celebrini basically a Toews clone, maybe some more Top 10 type finishes with more 82 game seasons (league adjusted offense wise, Toews is pretty underrated in a main board sense, his goals and scoring over x years, particularly 5 on 5 were always very good and he brought the 2-way Selke Finalist type styff). A 99 % Star, Wayne Gretzky/Connor McDavid as comparisons guy should go above him.

Yes, his NHLe is the production he'd have assuming he were in the NHL based on the league's historical equivalence. He would have been more productive last year than he would have been this year.

The bar for what a star is, is much lower for his "model" than what you would generally view as a star player in the NHL. He has Bowen Byram as a "star" producer. As well as Owen Power. I don't think any fans would classify either as stars.

Is it merely a comparison of scoring rates between the leagues?

Essentially. It factors in the player's ages and scoring rates over time and compares it against historical precedent but yes, NHLe is literally just NHL (points) equivalency.
Sounds like something I can do myself and be done with in 20 minutes while scratching my balls. Not at all surprised it's heralded as a thorough model.

I've seen maybe an hour combined of Levshunov and Demidov play so I'm not invested in this debate. I've merely got a good feeling about Davidson as a GM and am trusting his decision to draft Lev first. Anaheim and Columbus could have taken him as well. We'll certainly see how it all plays out.

Haven't really seen both play... just going with Stats is interesting when comparing a Forward with a D. Now factor in that Lev hasn't played in the same league for years and started the year out with injury.

I don't even understand why we have to have this talk. Lev is our prospect and so far I don't really care what other guys drafted later do half a year later.

It's just stupid whataboutism. Hawks drafted who they drafted. Nobody cares about hindsight.
