At this point, Demidov is more likely than not to have a better career than Levshunov. I'll concede that. But look at all the dynamic wingers that will be available in free agency or the upcoming draft. Then look at all the legit right handed defensemen that will become available in free agency or the upcoming draft.

Even if Demidov becomes the next Kucherov or Kaprizov, as long as Levshunov becomes a top pairing defensemen, I won't be disappointed as there are other means to acquire dynamic wingers. Forget the box scores for a minute, if you watch Levshunov play, you can see he has all the tools to get there. My main concern right now is his motor as he has looked lackadaisical at times but we'll see if he improves on that.

Is he called up effective today or not until the break starts? Looks like if it is as of today he'd miss 7-8 games for Rockford he could have played.

Seems like an odd decision to make in February, but I'm not going to claim to know which path over only 2-3 weeks is better for him.
It's a great chunk of change for the kid, as he gets his NHL salary for that time frame. Hawks actually do this a lot.

Why are people in a rush to say something like?? There are million things that can go wrong or right in prospects development. Vlasic wasnt much thought of prospect and here we are he is playing first pair minutes. Sure Demidov looks fancy on stat sheet but to declare him as better prospect just few months after draft is nuts. There is a long road for both of them before they reach their seiling if ever.

There are a lot of KHL stars that just didnt make it in NHL.

I agree. I'm just conceding or making a point that even if Demidov has a better or more flashy career, I'd still be ok with the pick. It's very possible that Levshunov has a better career.

I wanted Dem and was vocal about that. But to have our D pairings pretty set for a decade+while other teams rebuilding don't have much, if any, top D prospects I think we are in great shape. It is so much harder to acquire top D and to pick them up in FA is very rare. Lev is progressing nicely it looks like and I like him carrying the play into the O zone when given the chance. In a couple years we will have a better idea what we have in Lev but I am a fan of his after the draft. He seems like a good kid who lost his father young and has shown he is a quick study. His skating for his size is better than I expected and he has a long reach/strong on his skates. And Davidson tried his best to get Dem on top of Lev so shitting on him seems kinda silly.

While Demidov is definitely having a very solid season, I would just like to point out that Josh Leivo is running away with the scoring race in the KHL… Josh Leivo! The same Josh Leivo that bombed out with five NHL franchises. The same Josh Leivo that put up a grand total of 93 points in 265 NHL games. The same Josh Leivo that didn’t even score at a point per game pace in 227 AHL games… him, he has an 11 point lead in the KHL scoring race after putting up 63 points in 47 games this season.

So while thinking about how good Demidov is or may become, just keep that in the back of your mind… Josh Leivo is the runaway leader in the KHL scoring race.
