I always look for ideas on how to prevent things like this from happening in the future after horrible days like this. Rarely do I find that discussion. carry on things will be back to "normal" in a couple days.
Put up a fence, up the security. Good luck.
He was just a dumbass
Dumbasses find reasons to do dumbass things
This has very little to do with religion outside of the need to label offenders
The problem is - there is no real way to truly prevent these things from happening. Not unless you want to give up your freedoms and liberties enjoyed currently.

I hope this Ottawastrong garbage doesn't catch on.
And the shooter didn't.
big changes need to happen in the way we as humans live. until people realize that, we will always have these attacks. and they will get worse.
Watch Fox and tell me how it is compared to CNN
Fox, CNN, CBC, all media for that matter, have a specific narrative to push. Propaganda and corruption runs rampant throughout.
Hope those in Ottawa stay safe
Yeah sometimes tells me that would be worse than cnn if it was possible. lol
Well with regards to the incident today, I didn't see any agenda pushing from cbc. I don't watch the news, but maybe on other topics they do.

More education. Education improves everything.
When they're discussing current world events, they're pretty spot on.
If they're discussing Canadian politics, that's where they'll get accused of being heavily slanted (typically to the party promising to give them the most funding).
Today's reporting falls under current events. One advantage of being a publicly funded station, you don't have to push to get those eyeballs and so can focus on the facts.
I recall about 5 years ago on this site a poster stating that he "gets all his news from twitter now" (I think it was in a discussion surrounding the mainstream media and how it was dying in the internet age).
Reading it all I could do was facepalm at the concept of relying on 140 character messages from largely anonymous strangers most of whom would have no concept of journalistic reliability and integrity.

What happened today was awful and should never happen. However, it does annoy me when something like this gets so much attention, not saying it doesn't deserve it, but when a significant study comes out proving climate change is destroying life on earth and that we're in the last generation or 2 of pretty much all life, not just human life, it gets pushed to the side with no thought. Maddening.
Not sure if off topic.
Huh.
I've been getting all my news from Twitter for probably more than five years now. And there are probably lots of people who do. Doesn't mean I take the word of some random stranger. I usually get my news on my timeline from the likes of Ottawa Citizen, Breaking News, CTV News and local radio stations.
I don't think, even five years ago, there was reason to "facepalm" anyone getting their news on twitter.
I think the issue though especially on a day like today where you have 100s of various reports going out, all of the 'breaking news' reports are out of context due to the character limit.
Having a proper journalist write an article to explain the situation around the reports, provides you with some actual point of reference as to what all is going on.
Very interesting discussion on CBC the National right now. Recommend tuning in.
With that said I can't help but feel this was just a part of something bigger...like a dry run or a distraction or something. Too much of it doesn't make sense.
