I noticed that too. I wonder if something was going on in his personal life, I know he has a young kid so maybe now he's getting more sleep now that the kid isn't a baby anymore? Just a guess. Fatherhood can be rougher on some than others, Nuge might be going through that now. Just have to hope that Connor and Leon don't have their kids until after retirement ;)
As someone with a one year old (14 months) I can attest to the fact that continued shitty sleep is simply awful.

It obviously gets better. But yeah this could have been a fact. Kids are great …. When they are sleeping well :)

Better that one than “your sixteen”. Always found it hugely creepy (but a hell of a melody). He still sings it at his AllStar Band concerts. He’s 84 years old. You just cant.
In fairness to poor Ringo, "You're Sixteen" was originally released in 1960 and sung by that rebel of all rebels--Johnny Burnette. It was a huge hit and so was Ringo's re-make in 1973.

Those were different times--When Paul McCartney wrote the hit "I saw her standing there" he said "Well she was just seventeen--a real beauty queen" and Lennon changed it to read "you know what I mean." You wouldn't get away with that today.

Yup, a different world but for the Oilers "It Don't Come Easy" should still be their anthem.

Gotta stop bringing up Gretz. McDavid would have hit 3000 points in that same amount of games playing in that beer league
No he wouldn’t this isn’t how it works. If mcdavid was born back the. He would be a diff player. Using wooden sticks, a red line, training and coaching would be based on that time period… you cannot compare eras

I put this post in the wrong thread.

The stats don’t accurately reflect the entire story. Teams have really done their home work and learned to defend what the Oilers want to do in the offensive zone, which is force the puck into the low slot. So teams just collapse on that area and it becomes a pile of bodies, legs, sticks and it’s almost impossible to find the puck let alone get a stick on it and get any sort of clean shot off. Even though they are counted as high danger because of where they’re taken from, the reality is most of them aren’t accurate at all and are just pucks being swept or hacked towards the net, they are pucks a 2x6 stood up on end could stop.

Teams aren’t worried at all about any sort of shots from the Oilers coming from the high slot or outside the home plate area because we almost never shoot from those areas ever, instead the team just passes it around endlessly or McDavid goes for a skate trying to open up a lane that defensively disciplined teams almost never give up anymore now that they know.

A perfect example of this was Nurses first goal last night. The Preds, including their goalie, started collapsing to the middle and weak side because they know the Oilers MO there is to either throw it across the ice, into the low slot or to skate it behind the net. Instead Nurse actually takes the ice they give him and easily buries it into the gaping short side hole because Wedgwood is already positioning himself down and towards the middle of the net expecting to be looking looking through legs for a soft puck in the bottom half of the net.

I did jump the gun.
I only knew that because I spent 2 hours on the phone this morning waiting for Telus to talk to me. The recording kept telling me the long delay was because it was Black Friday today and they were having a sale. I didn’t think it was so I googled when US Thanksgiving was this year and discovered they were full of crap. I read your post five minutes later and got triggered, lol.

Proof that sometimes when you act too quickly, mistakes get made.

That’s not directed at you.

It's interesting what passes through the cancel filter these days. You can use all kinds of nasty swear words, even use the N word (if you're black), and brag about beating up the "bitch" or putting down a cop, but any kind of intelligent inuendo, and poof, they're all over you!

As for Ringo, my favourite has always been that great sing-a-long "the No No Song", a fantastic ode to pot.

But being the better team helps sometimes too ;)
As we've been so many times this year, for sure.

3rd best. Ekholm saved a goal lol.

Mcdavid reached 1000 points, not even a headline on TSN.
I hope we never have to find out how this defence would be without Ekholm in the lineup.

Regarding McDavids 1000th point...interesting isnt it?
Even on Sportscentre the lead story was the NFL game.

Imagine if that had been a Matthews milstone.
It would have been the lead story and it would have extended well past the 15 minute mark.

I'm going to say something controversial and not because of the goals tonight, Nurse has been....good.... this season after a rough few games to start.

And, he has 1000+ points at 27 years old. What more can you say lol
Nurse has 1000+ points? Maybe he is worth his contract after all :sarcasm:

I agree with you and I have been as critical of Nurse as anyone on here.
In the last 7-8 games Nurse has been much better.

Its been and long time coming and its really good to see because the team needs this version of Nurse and not the brutal version of the past few years. He needs to be a player that brings some real value to his inflated contract.

Here's hoping that he doesnt revert back to the liability was was before this season.

What an awesome night for McD. And to have him do it with Drai and Nurse I
In front of the crowd he loves and has always played in front of. The interview post game and McDs appreciation to do it here, tells me he’s 100% signing here long term.

Also he so back, these last 3 games are the McDavid we know.

I loved his decryption of our offence too in the post game. Good offense is being clean and crisp, and he notes that we are not there yet. When we do get there though, look out, cause Knob hockey is once again elite defensively. Once the offence comes we’re going on another 16-0 type run.

Happy for Nurse. That’s a night that he really needed after being such a scapegoat post 9.25M. I want him so badly to succeed and put that contract discussion in the dust. Games like that and his performances recently can do that for him. He’s playing his best hockey since the bubble year. Let’s hope he keeps it up, he deserves love from this fanbase for how dedicated and hard working he’s been in the McDavid era.

Totally agree, his game is really coming around, he still has his mistakes but the swagger is coming back which generally makes him more effective.

We’ve always been a pass the puck into the net type team. Defending teams are anticipating pass rather than shots for awhile now. 2 ways we can and do break this down. Is moving the puck up high and thinning the oppositions defensive coverage down low. Having shooting threats up top. And also have defenceman ready to jump in downlow to create coverage issues. That’s why Ekholm and Bouch are so effective.

Another thing we can do is create more rush offence like the Avs feast on. I think Knob hockey is great for that, but our foot speed is reduced from years past.

Totally agree, his game is really coming around, he still has his mistakes but the swagger is coming back which generally makes him more effective.
Yeh hopefully it’s swagger and confidence that can get him going. In that bubble year he was making dangles and showing flashes of skill that might warrant a 9.25M. Last night we saw some of that, maybe the best snipe Nurse has ever made in his career lol.
