That doesnt make sense

But his comments appeared very up front and clear - it doesnt make sense to have to set any record straight..

The only thing that would have made sense is if he apologized if anyone took it as discrediting the coyotes as a franchise

Exactly! I think Keefe just got in his own head. I think he thought the players would take his comments the wrong way. But I don’t think they did. I don’t really think anyone pressured Keefe to circle back, I think he thought about it, and was like there’s potential for this to be taken the wrong way I just wanna check in with the boys and make sure they know where I’m coming from. (He really didn’t have to do it,) but I get it, being a coach you have so many thoughts. Shit gets in your head

From listening to multiple media members, it sounds like this is a huge misunderstanding. It sounds like the players didn’t even care.

Either Keefe got in his own head and thought he messed up so he wanted to get ahead of it before the players heard or someone from upper management asked him to walk it back.

I don’t buy for a second that the players approached Keefe about this at all. It was either management or Keefe himself that decided there was a need to circle back.
Have to agree to disagree.

If the players didn’t care about this comment, somehow that’s worst, bc it means they don’t care about the coach criticisms. How are they ever going to improve and help the Leafs win a Cup, if they think they can do no wrong.
If the players didn’t approach Keefe after being called out. That’s also not a good sign bc it shows as you stated, they didn’t care. They are not at a point where they can say, don’t worry, we will win the Cup when it counts. Regular season is a joke, once playoffs starts, we will win 16games.

Shows a lack of confidence in himself in my opinion.. but who cares if they take it hard.. it isnt even something to take hard.. come out and if anything say - coach is right.. we need to do this

Too bad his fault is team construction and contracts
he can put some rings on the table. dubas cant. Culture wins in sports. Not catering to kids.

6 playoffs and 6 years of regular seasons has taught the Leafs nothing, TO can turn it on whenever but in the face of true stiff opposition they wilt, it's very obvious.

How can this be corrected, hard line coaches hasn't worked, easy going player friendly coaches hasn't worked, at some point a change of players needs to be visited.

Changing 4th liners might ease the Cap crunch but we can't expect 4th or 3rd liners to be significant contributors to TO progressing, TO is merely spinning their wheels, maintaining status quo.

I understand Matthews is throwing his body around, which is alright I guess, but what I'd prefer is him going to the opposition's net once in awhile, creating havoc instead of mostly waiting on the periphery for that sweet Marner set up. Nylander used to go there 2 years ago now he wants to skate around the periphery and play keep away, Marner just wants to pass from the periphery, JT goes into no Leaf Zone, Bunting as well.

Malgin is another thou shall not risk life and limb to score type of player, too much fluff and he's another fluffer, Robertson will be as well from what I saw in preseason.

When things are clicking periphery Leaf activity pays off but when the going gets tough Leaf resolve remains periphery, this cast isn't prepared to change.

It's really not that hard to accomplish great regular season stats with this club. Playoffs are the main barometer of success

Keefe started at third base, he didn't hit a triple

Better then the leafs?

Even by that stat idk what you want.

Funny you put up the point percentage in the time frame then backtrack as soon as someone points out teams with multiple coaches have better point percentage

Brunette had a .720 and got fired.

Likeable guy and overall a good coach but seems like a bit of a dummy on the communication side. The coddling is real though, there was no need to clarify this.

It's clear who runs the show here and it ain't the coach.

Didn’t care is the wrong thing. They cared but I don’t think they had a problem with keefe calling them out..

I think Keefe just thought they would and accidentally created this shit storm

That I would agree with.
I think they knew they played bad and didn’t mind Keefe calling them out.

I think for the first time he’s feeling the pressure. He made a communication mistake, he needs to kind of settle down as crazy as it sounds and just coach. Stop caring what the players thing and focus on winning games.

Babcock couldn't do it.

It was your table.

Over the timeframe you posted
Canes were .688
Panthers were .677
Bruins were .668

Leafs were .675
No for each individual coach. They don't get credit for what their replacements have accomplished. Lol.

He was an interim head coach, he wasn't their first choice. Lol.

To me, I think Dubas and company told Keefe, the team needs playoffs results or you are gone in the off-season. That’s why his comments after the Habs game caught everyone by surprise. Or it could simply be he wants to win and he knows the team can do it but the boys need to realize their bad habits.
Either way, I don’t understand why he needs to go public with what he said on Monday.

Babcock had the franchise record.

Keefe then had older/more mature Matthews, Nylander and Marner.

And probably rosters you would consider superior to the roster Babcock accomplished the previous franchise record in points with.

Babcock also pushed WSH, BOS x2 to 7 games....the first 2 of those series in particular I thought we were underdogs. Keefe lost to CBJ, MTL and had a 3-2 series lead over TBL (not the same Bolts that won back to back cups either).

2nd BOS series disappointing for Babcock. All 3 of Keefe's were disappointing.

Cassidy was .688
Brunette was .720

There's 2 out of the 3 teams mentioned. As I said in my initial response....it happens
Boston got shit in all summer by fans and media for letting Cassidy go. Brunette wasn't their first choice he was an interim as I said before.

You don't fire good coaches like that and expect to get better.
