We haven't seen yet what it'll be like the bought-and-paid-for pro-Dubas Toronto hockey media start sniping at the new administration. Will they fall in line and soft ball the new people or go scorch and burn on people they perceive as the enemy?
It's waaaay bigger than a Dubas love-in. The local media will (mostly) parrot whatever narrative the bosses tell them to. "Journalism" anywhere in the mainstream? Pah. You guys keep forgetting: MLSE/Leafs owned by the same corporations who own the media outlets and hence the media staff.

Not all of the sports media people consume are owned by Rogers and Bell. The Toronto Star and Sun Media aren't Rogers or Bell affiliated. The Athletic is owned by the New York Times, a corporation with its own social and political agendas. Vox Media also has a stake in sports media. Then there are the "independent" journalists of Twitter who have various levels of influence and untethered by Rogers or Bell.

This also brings up an interesting question, if the Leafs win a Cup in these next few seasons without Treliving doing much tinkering with the team does that suddenly mean Dubas was a great GM all along?
The lovers and haters of Dubas will stick to the same script, and for the rest of us it won't matter because winning trumps everything.

I'm beginning to wonder if Shanahan is trying to destroy the club out of spite against the fans.

I hope he gets sacked before his contract runs out. By the time he finishes dragging this team into the gutter it could take years for a successor to get them back to the top. But who continues to let him carry on?

Tanenbaum has been, and always will be, the problem.

At this point opposing fans, Tanenbaum, and Shanahan himself are the only ones who still believe in this core and Keefe. If they don't come to grips with the situation soon they'll be in danger of falling down the standings. Once that happens its hard getting back.

Shanahan is just an agenda driving muppet though.

I've no interest in anything he says anymore. He seems to have had a common sense bypass. He's either in denial or can't see the truth.

Deluded fools who can't see the writing on the wall will be this team's downfall.
Well, it’s beginning to look like everyone from the core 4 to Keefe is coming back, And if Dubas hadn’t of gotten greedy and asked for the moon at the 11th hour, he would have been back too.

And this now explains why Shanahan went radio silent for a week or so and avoided the end of the season presser for as long as he possibly could . He was planning on bringing everyone back the entire time and obviously he couldn't announce that right away, because the overwhelming majority of the base would have lost their shit. So, what did he do? He waited until the dust settled and a certain portion of the base was over the disappointment of losing in 5 to the Panthers.

Alot of people were calling Dubas a snake oil monorail salesmen? Well, Shanahan isn’t much better IMO.

It‘s not going to happen, especially if the core 4 and Keefe are brought back (Which is looking more and more likely by the day) so, it’s a moot point.

The will be lucky to win a round much less the cup.

Easy answer..
Who flipping cares. We won th cup. I'd rather go around trolling the main boards than argue with leaf fans what GM made it happen lolol

Interesting question but it also depends alot on how the team plays.

If they win a cup keeping the same core/coach while playing pretty close to the same style then sure Dubas will deserve quite a bit of credit.

If they win a cup keeping the same core/coach but playing a vastly different style then I'm not sure how much should be given to Dubas.

For me it's always been moreso about the playstyle of the team vs having a flawed roster. If you bring in the right coach or set the correct culture, you can get all players to buy-in and play a certain way.

If I were to hazard a guess as to Shanahan’s reluctance to dismantle the core, blow up the front office and change the coach, it would have something to do with his fan experiences as a kid during the Sittler era. Didn’t get over the hump, Roger Nielsen fired. Punch Imlach brought in. Team dismantled in anger over high drama over a number of years.

He’s the only one who has had a NMC this whole time, so you can’t trade him. Keeping all 4 was not ideal, and you can’t trade Tavares. That leaves you with two option; either a sub-optimal team build or trading Marner / Nylander.
It is a business force him to wave it tb got their dman to wave his life expectancy is longer for the drafted players and their already better

TB got McDonagh to waive because he only had a no trade clause. He could be placed on waivers, which is what they told him they’d do if he didn’t accept a trade.

Tavares has a no movement clause and cannot be traded or placed on waivers.

Scratch him make him a blacc ace

So go the season with a 72.5 million dollar cap as you eat 11 million just to wage war with one of your best players?

This isn’t a video game. The association has to run itself in a professional manner, or risk other players not wanting to be here.
Fucc I understand that and your right I just want him gone hes hindering us from actually being a solid Stanley cup threat

Not arguing details with you, just sayin' that the narrative and agendas by all legacy mainstream outlets seem agreed-upon and are thus pretty well identical. Almost like it's one entity at the apex pulling the strings...

There is no reason to extend Sheldon Keefe’s contract with the Maple Leafs and never mind the annual uniformed junk about lame-duck coaches.

If the Leafs choose to stay with Keefe as coach — and that determination has yet to be made public by general manager Brad Treliving — there is no reason to provide Keefe with a contract extension now.

Here’s why: If he returns and has a great season coaching the Leafs, he will naturally get his contract extended, certainly with a pay raise of some significance. But if he returns and doesn’t meet expectations, with the team and in the playoffs, then it’s easy. You part ways with Keefe and thank him for his years on the job.

It really comes down to performance in the end, which is how the business should work and sports rarely does.

The plus side to Keefe is the club’s record since he replaced Mike Babcock and the manner in which the Leafs have transformed from an offensive team to a better all-around team under his tutelage.

The downside for Keefe has been playoff performance, post-season preparation, and the Leafs’ inability to appear ready to start the biggest of games.

That was evident in Games 5-6-7 against Montreal in 2021, in Games 6-7 versus Tampa Bay in 2022 and through a lot of this season’s playoffs, especially the Florida series.

If Keefe does the job well down the road, he will be appropriately compensated. Rewarding him now for what he has yet to accomplish doesn’t make a lot of sense.

Of everything Keefe is the easiest decision to make. I still can't fathom he's still around.

I think we're waiting to see if Quenneville will coach this year. If yes, we fire Keefe and hire him. If not we keep him and run it for another year wait till other viable candidates become available next off-season.

also there were reports saying rangers are also waiting to see if keefe is let go. also they are looking to interview Quenneville as well if made available by Bettman.
