Prospect Info: Sharks Prospect Info & Discussion Thread XX

I think unless he comes into training camp and blows the doors off, I can see them giving him the Eklund treatment: let him bulk up/get used to higher end competition and bring him in at the deadline.

Maybe not though - it’s hard to say, we haven’t had a prospect of this level in a long time.
Why would you want to take him from a great environment like BC with a track record of success in developing prospects, and put him on the Cuda which only have a history of disappointment.

I guess eventually our pipeline needs to get better if we're going to have success, but not worth the risk doing it with our highest draft pick in 26 years.

I read they also wouldn’t guarantee him an NHL spot which is dumb. You can guarantee a spot and if they play their way into the AHL so be it.

Can a team sign a player after the regular season but before the league year ends to burn an ELC year?
If they turn 20 before the end of the year for the season in which they signed the contract yes. Don't think Smith would meets that criterion, but I'd imagine there would be time for him to get his 10 games.

I hear you but also you hope that he joins a Barracuda team that has Bystedt, Havelid, Lund, etc. on it and is way more competitive. But it’s possible he might also earn an NHL spot.

He’ll grow in college but I don’t hate seeing what he can do against men — especially after a summer of hopefully a lot of muscle building.

Crazy that we have 11 legit NHL prospects. Obviously not all of them will pan out, but there are 11 guys with legitimate chances to be NHLers. I feel like we had 11 total prospects with legit NHL chances drafted between 2011 and 2020.
Hmm, can you even name 11?

I think when you remove the prospects the experts were very pessimistic about (Merkley), those traded away, and the ones fans were too optimistic about (Daniels), it may even be less than that.

Pour one out for Mirco, Ty Wishart, Nick Petrecki, and many more 🥲

Goldobin, Rod, Dahlen, Chemelevksi, Chekhovich, Leonard, Gambrell, O'Regan, Roy, Sadowy, Boudreau...we've been fooled quite a few times.

Who did we actually develop from 2010-2020????
Hertl, Meier, Tierney, Demelo, Nieto, Labanc, Ferraro, Gregor...? That's literally all I can name and it's a pretty depressing list.

Is it though? We were a top team trading 1st round picks for Craig Rivet during that time, so hard to say. You’d hope there was a few more surprises from later round picks though.

I'd reluctantly count Gambrell on the list of NHLers..

No doubt. Still a pretty crappy list though. We missed on nearly every first round pick outside of Hertl, Meier, and Norris in a 10 year span.

Which is only three picks - Mueller, Goldobin and Merkley - all of whom were drafted in a range where prospects historically have a 20-25% chance of developing into full time NHLers.

This is just how the draft works and why IMO it's a waste of time to pay attention to individual prospects drafted outside the top 10. The vast majority will never make it and nobody seems good at predicting which ones will ahead of time.

While 100a% true, a better scouting crew and the team could have ended up with Keandre Miller, Adrian Kempe and Ryan Hartman instead (all went within a couple of picks after those three)
