Why would you want to take him from a great environment like BC with a track record of success in developing prospects, and put him on the Cuda which only have a history of disappointment.I think unless he comes into training camp and blows the doors off, I can see them giving him the Eklund treatment: let him bulk up/get used to higher end competition and bring him in at the deadline.
Maybe not though - it’s hard to say, we haven’t had a prospect of this level in a long time.
I guess eventually our pipeline needs to get better if we're going to have success, but not worth the risk doing it with our highest draft pick in 26 years.
If they turn 20 before the end of the year for the season in which they signed the contract yes. Don't think Smith would meets that criterion, but I'd imagine there would be time for him to get his 10 games.I read they also wouldn’t guarantee him an NHL spot which is dumb. You can guarantee a spot and if they play their way into the AHL so be it.
