with norris out do you move Pinto to 2C or keep him with motte and joseph because that line has been buzzing & hope that Brassard can fill into the 2nd line

I'd prefer Pinto between DCat and Giroux. I think he is the best option to play in the top 6.

We are not going to be as good as with Norris in.. no matter how they are shuffled.

They can put Kastelic, Brass or Gambrell at 3C and one of them in at 4C.

Keep the top 2 lines as strong as we can make them.

Agreed. I still think we can have a strong bottom 6 and a strong top 6 by moving Pinto up... either keep 4th line as is (4 solid lines) or move Kastelic up (strongest possible top 9).

I think that 3rd line craters without Pinto. I would put Brassard on the Giroux/DeBrincat line and see how that goes. Will be some tinkering required

You also got to look into Pinto’a point of view as a competitive athlete . He probably feels at this point he deserves to play with Cat and G. With Norris and Stu healthy you can justify the third line with the amount of season missed last year but now Pinto likely feels he has earned the opportunity especially with a contract on the horizon

I don’t think Pinto will feel that way. He will get more minutes from PK and late game pushes/defence regardless. I am sure he enjoys playing on a line that is clicking in the way they are right now.

I think Pinto is awesome but I don't care how good he is, you better be able to handle a letter role when you've played 20 whole NHL games

I think you keep Pinto where he is 5 on 5 and put Brassard with Giroux who have chemistry already.

I agree with this. At least to start. See how brassard does between cat and giroux. If he can hold his own, then the senators still have three scoring lines.

Id move pinto up if brassard completely shits the bed, I think and hope his wingers can carry a third forward. But for now just replace Norris with brassard and see what happens.

I think this is why they signed Brassard to replace a top six player if or when they go down to injury. Why screw with the lines that are working? If it is a bottom six guy that gets injured they have Gambrell on standby.

If Brassard doesn't work they could always move Giroux to centre & bring up a scoring forward from Belleville. Jake Luccini is leading Belleville in scoring, can play centre or wing & I think has impressed the coaching staff. They have a few guys in Belleville that might qualify to come up, but at the moment they are carrying two extra guys in Brassard & Gambrell who they will likely use.

Exactly. Brassard just needs to keep up and distribute the puck, he won't replace Norris' 2 way play or his forechecking, but he can placehold. And the fact that he and Giroux know each other and like each other makes it a slam dunk imo.

I'm fine with whatever DJ decides to do. There is logic to bumping Pinto up with the Giroux line and there is logic keeping him with Motte & Joseph.

One thing is for sure though - if Pinto does in fact stay on that "third line" DJ better be finding away to get Pinto & Stu closer to 18-20 and spliting the remainder between Brass & Kasty accordingly. If I see the Brass end a game with a significant amount of minutes more than Pinner I probably won't be too thrilled (unless brass rightfully earns those minutes with strong play)

If Norris was out short-term I could see Brassard as a temporary solution. If it’s most or the whole season though? Not sure how well that would work. At that point I’d just take our chances with Pinto and let him develop - he’ll have some ups and downs, but we’ve seen the progress these young guys tend to make over the course of a season and I think that’s our best long-term hope.

The more I think about it, I'd put Brassard as 2C if Norris is out. Let the Pinto line roll given its chemistry. Cat and Giroux are more than talented enough to carry Brassard who just has to not be a liability.

Brassard has shown some chemistry with Giroux and Debrincat. Is it anything more than a band-aid? No, but having that 3rd line intact is a big reason for some of our early success and I don't see a need to mess with that until they cool off.

With G and Cat ,Pinto has a good chance of winning the Calder
I mean he’s 2nd in points , 1st in goals with less TOI then his more serious rivals.
Imagine him between a wizard and a top sniper

Leave Pinto where he is. He’s a rookie who is doing well with the responsibility that he has right now. No need to put any more pressure on him at the moment.

Brass has played with G before, let’s see what they have.

I’m always that guy but has pinto really been that good? He’s been sniping. But don’t think he’s been better than any of our top 6 forwards.

But then you lose out on the beautiful chemistry Pinto has with Motte and Joseph.

I wouldn't necessarily say he's been better than any of the six forwards, but to be in the same discussion as those other six is huge for Pinto and us at this stage.
