Here's what I see happening - we roll Norris / Tierney / White as our top 3 centers for half the season.

Around January/Feb when we're clearly out of the playoff picture and in the bottom 3, the team realizes "hey, maybe we were on to something last year with letting the best players play".

Pinto steps into the #2C role and we never look back.

For some reason DJ's word's of "the best players will play" doesn't apply to young guys. I'd actually say Greig and Ostapchuk are better players than Colin White right now but maybe that's a hot take.

I'm curious to see Greig vs White tonight - good chance Greig outplays White but I can’t see The Sens playing Greig over White.

If Grieg is better than White, DJ’s going to need to rework that line he keeps using about better players playing.

Is Greig playing? In the other lineup I saw he wasn't listed - I hope he does play though.

Even if Grieg plays lights out I don't think the is any way he stays beyond 9 games simply due to his physical maturity. There would also be some roster issues but he needs to go back to junior since he isn't eligible for the A and pound the calories and keep growing/getting stronger.

Next year he is a shoe in for the A and probably a few looks in Ottawa but this is all gravy for him now and hopefully leads to a fantastic WHL season and a spot on Team Canada.

The way Greig played in the AHL last year and his start to camp I imagine that he may skip the AHL altogether next year. He will be 20 heading into camp. Smart, smart player.

I think people get a little too hung up on line #s.

Clearly Tkachuk Norris Batherson is a predetermined line. After that things get a little grey. You need more scoring, you need a shut down capability. I'd be more focused on ice time. Based on what I've seen thus far I'm thinking Pinto deserves as much or more ice than White. With who and in what situations is a different question.

Maybe he's got Pinto on the PK. Maybe he's on PP2. Who knows. I think we should be looking at 12 or so minutes of ES ice to start and adjust based on play

I am curious to see the #1PP tonight...I wouldn't be surprised if Pinto has a spot with Norris and Batherson plus...White?

Would be stoked to see Pinto set-up for some one-timer opportunities...the future on full display.

Its early - but if a pinto continues to show well I don’t know how long he can keep him off PP2… and I don’t think they would want him to play both PP and PK + 2C.

Lonely end of the rink
Sounds to me like Pinto has made the NHL roster. Fantastic news !!!!

DJ did emphasize in that clip something like "whether his time is now or a little bit down the road". He said that twice IIRC. That suggests the decision isn't made.

I also thought he meant move him up the lineup, rather than up to the lineup like the Tweet says. So like don't start him on the 2nd line right away. But honestly, I've never played a hockey game in my life, so maybe don't listen to me. :)

Great start for Pinto but the pace will pick up in camp. I remember the 18 year old Hossa light up training camp only to go cold once the season started and got sent back to junior . That being said #pinto42C

Pinto will be 21 in about 6 weeks. His time is now, just has great natural hockey sense.

I doubt it will be this yr, but Greig is not that far away from taking White's job in the next yr or two IMO. White is going to have to have a very strong yr, Greig already looks like he is better offensively & once he gains some muscle mass could be better defensively too, plus he plays with more edge than White.

A strong showing could get Greig 10 games and who knows where things go from there. We could release him to the WJC and let him continue his development. No reasons for the Sens to use the Lazar outcome as a reason to shy away from that plan with Greig. He’s a Young D+2 kid … Greig seems to be one of those guys who looks better at the higher level - AHL vs Junior etc.

Id say better then 50/50 that Greig has a better game tonight vs White … good on White if he can elevate and outplay Greig.

Agreed, I think they keep him to get him past that one game suspension, but whether he plays more than that is a maybe at best. Given the commitment they have to White due to that contract & the likely outcome for this yr my guess is that White gets another yr to show he belongs. Next yr though IMO will be completely different especially if Greig comes into camp a little bigger with a good yr under his belt & WJC experience. He just looks like a player who can handle the bigger stage.

Totally agree - but if we go past this year with White it’s a 2/3 buyout and doesn’t make much sense.

White will be making $6.25 when we’re trying to pay Sanderson, Stutzle, Norris, JBD, LT, GUS, Form, Paul, etc.

I’d hate to see Pinto outplay White and Tierney only to be sent to Belleville because of contracts etc.

Not to me. Sounds like Pinto will possibly be sent to Belleville for more seasoning and development before being brought up for good. I don't agree with that based on his current performance but it sound like demotion is in the wind.

I want to see Formenton on the PP to see what his speed can add to the PP. Sometimes our PP totally sucks because the boys pass the pancake back and forth on the outside and provide no pressure usingtheir skating with it.

White seems to be lacking compete level, physicality, speed, truculence, puck-handling, play-making and shooting skills. A very average to below average player.

I agree we get stagnant and lack movement but Formenton won't be using his blazing speed once they are set up.

He may get a look but his skill set doesnt scream PP1 to me.

Pinto has good vision, compete and has a one timer.

Huh? I don’t think you understand the purpose of a message board.

It’s not to influence coaches and GMs. They’re not reading this. Of course they have reasons for doing what they’re doing. And of course they think they’re right. Otherwise they wouldn’t do it. Thanks for pointing out the obvious.

The point of a message board is for fans to discuss and analyze those decisions. Some people will agree, others will disagree.

It’s okay to have an original thought and opinion of your own. DJ won’t read this thread and get mad at you, don’t worry. He’s not inviting you to his end of season barbecue either way.

If you don’t like reading opinions, I’d suggest you stick to Sens press releases.

Yes Dave, that’s it, I don’t understand the purpose of a message board. Or maybe it’s you that is confused given that I responded and shared my opinions much on message board, like anyone else. They don’t align with yours, but that’s cool because that’s what a discussion board is for, right?

I like reading well thought out opinions, and also the bitchy ones that make little sense beyond being angry at strangers. Lots of both in here, it’s all good.

Your post is weird, obviously if I didn’t want to read silly posts, I simply wouldn’t, but given that I do, and take the time to respond, that should tell you all you need to know about whether I like reading them or not.

I give you snippets of my time Dave, even added some attempts at humour and comraderie, I wish you had enjoyed it instead of responding with that old wet blanket of a post. :(

Anyway, Pinto will work his way up the line up to where he belongs, it’s pretty plain to see at this point, as is the ever obvious notion that all rookies will earn their steps up the lineup. Nothing given.

Over / under 40 points for Pinto this season if he plays over 80 games ?
Easy over.

The guy is around the puck constantly each game and is going to get points because he reads the play so well outside of his amazing skill.

I know it's just pre season but combined with what we saw last year it's hard not to get excited about this player. He does it all.... Defensive awareness and hockey sense just off the charts.
