Lindy Ruff got a handful of votes, too.

"I just think he's too old,” a player said. “I don't think he understands the game anymore. That's what I hear from the guys that play for him, that he just doesn't know what's going on most of the time."

He also did not make the list of coaches players want to play for. Not even as an honorable mention.

I also wouldn’t put too much stock in these polls either.

There are 736 roster spots and well over 1000 players have played in this league each season.

This survey/questionnaire was sent out to only 111 players. They didn’t answers all the questions. So the results for each question was from even smaller samples. Like where players wouldn’t want to go was only answered by 82 players.

To say the results could be easily skewed by who makes up the sample would be an enormous understatement. I don’t think there was an intent to do that. But these are sports writers who are hardly conducting a scientific study.

You would definitely be very very cool.

EDIT: Thats quite a different vibe between Winnipeg and Savannah.

Aside from the weather. Savannah, like Buffalo, isn’t far from a decent amount of large to mid sized metro areas.

It’s kind of wild how uniquely isolated Winnipeg is for a NHL city. Edmonton and Calgary at least have each other.
In the southeast, you've got Charlotte, Atlanta, and Jacksonville. Atlanta is too big - takes forever to get anywhere. MARTA is ok but not my scene. Jacksonville is close to the beach and had some really good medical facilities, but also not really my scene.

Charlotte is nice. It's got a full circle loop highway (I485) and while traffic isn't great at times, people are spread out well enough and the state is pouring money into highway upgrades. Downtown is pretty cool.

All of them are a bit of a hump from any of the smaller southern cities (Savannah, Charleston, closer for Columbia and Greenville). I think I'd be ok with Winnipeg. Seems like their world is small, and people probably know each other well. That's more of my scene. I'd go there.

I’m not opposed to trading Cozens. But, with the cap increases coming, by year 4-5 of his contract, when he is still just 25-27 years old, $7.1 million for a big, fast, hard to play against winger, who scores 20-25 goals and 45-50 points, won’t be at all crazy.

If he played like any of that we wouldn’t be having these conversations,

8-10% of a population is well above the sample size in almost every poll the public gets its eyes on between politics, health, etc.

If they distributed the surveys thoughtfully, ie not just to 10 year vets or players they know, then this survey is about as statistically significant as can be.

This survey, which matches the common sense eye test, deserves plenty of stock.

The comments about winning, as it pertains to Buffalo, is expected and reasonable.

But Winnipeg being at the top of the list despite recent success is proof that there was way more truth to the palm trees statement than people want to admit, and people unwilling to even entertain it are just burying their heads in the sand....or snow
I think it's less to do with the missing palm trees and more to do with the extremely small size, isolation and lack of amenities. They have the longest flights to get to either coast of any team.

Calgary and Edmonton are each about 1.75x times the size of Winnipeg. Buffalo is 1.4x times the size.

Winnipeg Metro area is only 800k people. That's really tiny. It's only 100k more than Syracuse, and it's smaller than Buffalo, Albany or Rochester.

No doubt he has sucked... but talk to me when we have Peyton Krebs as 2C 😆
We have McLeod, Kulic and Tage who outplayed Cozens in the center. We also need to add another top 6 C so that one of Tage and Kulich can play on the wing.

I think, re: Cozens

Selling low on him is a mistake. The absolute worst case scenario is he sucks next year too and we have to use the under 26 buyout on him. The risk of that vs taking pennies on the dollar and watching him thrive elsewhere seems silly.

There are systemic issues on this team that are above anyone on the roster, starting in the front office.

Fix that first before you start moving out potential cornerstone pieces because they are struggling on a poorly assembled team in an system that is ill fitting for their skills.

On the contrary, it is worse if he sucks next season and we need to buyout him or keep him in the lineup instead of a good player. There is interest in Cozens around the league, as I already said, several GMs can easily pay for him, and I am not against trading him to such a team for parts that are good for us. Of course, there is no point in trading him for Chiarot or some such nonsense, but I think there will be interesting offers there.
