't be surprised if Pinto has a spot with Norris and Batherson
Not to me. Sounds like Pinto will possibly be sent to Belleville for more seasoning and development before being brought up for good. I don't agree with that based on his current performance but it sound like demotion is in the wind.

I realize this post was made before the game last night. But even if thats what DJ meant (which I dont believe), that plan got thrown firmly out of the window when Pinto showed that he was probably the best player on the ice again.

DJ would lose the faith of his players, the fans, and probably the owner and GM both if he tried to send Pinto down to Belleville. No other move would be as damaging to his credibility and career than that one, very telling move would be.

Its one thing to cut a lethargic looking Logan Brown after that might have even managed to get on the board a few times, but still had mixed results overall.

But it would take a special kind of hard-headed moron to even entertain cutting a guy whos arguably been the best player in the arena for both of the games he played in so far. Points. Penalty killing. Poise. And he gets involved on every shift he plays in. Hell even denying Pinto the 2nd line spot and giving it (Stutzle) to a player that literally kills all momentum in Tierney. Hes painfully useless and below average at every aspect of hockey.

Like the Norris line combined for 3 points. Chabot was a +5 and looking beastly. And Shane Pinto was somehow the most impressive Senator that game. Unreal that he can very likely usurp Josh Norris as the #1C - and without the best wingers on his flanks...

There is absolutely no way he doesn't make this team. You don't have to worry about that.

Hard to see DJ/Dorion not wanting Shane Pinto in their lineup. The way he has progressed since being drafted, the way he looked last season in his 12 NHL games and then now in this camp... I think any NHL team would make space for him in their lineup

he’s literally our best player.

Shane Pinto
Josh Norris
Brady Tkachuk
Drake Batherson
Tim Stutzle
Thomas Chabot
Jake Sanderson

Competition is going to be heavy for that title. Thing is don't be surprised if another guy or two emerges to joing that group (like Greig for example)

But for now, it's easily Chabot IMO. It should be Stutzle in the near future, he's still a bit raw

I'm honestly blown away at how well Pinto has progressed. The short audition last season was not a fluke...he legit looks like a #2C right now.

Also, so much for the "Pinto is slow" comments. Yeah, it's pre-season, but he's already faking out defenders and skating past them. He's at the very least above average speed-wise.

There were at least 2 or 3 moments in his games last year where I remember thinking “yeah, that guy can skate”

Pinto has been looking really good.

But, we have to remember, the real test starts at the tail end of October and in November and December, when the season is underway and most of the kids have run through their 9-games and the full rosters are set.

It's going to be interesting watching him. He's had a ton of swagger so far in camp and really looks like he is not only going to earn a spot on the roster, but command a spot and be a difference-maker on his line. Pretty cool stuff, and well beyond any expectations I had of the kid this time last year.

Agreed I think it's one thing to look good in the pre-season versus playing against legit NHL lineups. However, I think there's a pretty good correlation between players who routinely look great in training camp/pre-season at this age and having success in the NHL.

The one thing I've noticed so far in these games is his mind is starting to catch up to the NHL level...he's faking players out and finding open lanes. In my opinion his hockey IQ is through the roof in the defensive/neutral zone. Next up is the offensive side but I think that'll come.

You’re right about looking good vs pre season lineups … but pinto’s competition has been brutal vs the same lineups.

I thought his most impressive play last night was stick handling thru two Habs in their end while on the PK and gently moving the puck backwards to one of our D. You need to be calm to do that

In the Pinto thread on the main board people were scoffing when I claimed Pinto will prove he should have been a top 10 pick in his draft year. He's that good.

Unless he absolutely shits the bed the rest of camp he’s on the roster.

You can add Formenton to that list when he is about 20 lbs heavier with muscle & who knows how Sokolov will play, he looks pretty good too when he is in there.

Tierney will be just fine slotted as a 3C. He's been slotted above that for a lot of his time here and that's had mixed results at best. Locked in on a 3rd line where he belongs, he'll be fine

I can't wait until the trade deadline when Ottawa is able to shed some of this dead weight & make room for more of these younger players who are hungry. Just fine isn't good enough any more, unfortunately it will take a number of months before this happens.

With how amazing Pinto has been I think it overshadowed how great Norris looked in his first game too.

Those 2 pushing each other and being C1A / C1B is a huge boost to the rebuild.

2 high IQ, defensively responsible C who can transition well and create offensive chances with speed, passing or their shot makes rounding out the forwards so much easier.

Let me put it another way

Having Tierney as a 3C and PKing isn't a weakness

Sure it is if you have better players, what happened to the best players play? Having said that though, it is what it is & we have to wait until they move him which will likely take months. This is not much different than Anisimov last yr really, he was okay sometimes in certain roles, but we couldn't wait for him to be gone too.

The only potential better player in that role is White and there's no guarantee on that

What better players do we have for that role?
