All a facade I’m sure.. what’s the guy going to say.. fine, a 5th but that’s probably an overpay for this degenerate. The investigation began in the summer, meaning his bad decisions were last season.
Also: From Friedman's article on Sportsnet.ca...
"The next question is how the Senators will handle the situation. It’s believed that one reason Pinto has not asked for a trade is that he appreciates the organization’s secrecy about the investigation."
Every league does it. Its not hard, you cant gamble on something you can have a hand in, just like insider trading of stocks.Unless there is more credible details out there other than what the League has put out, this is quite silly. If he didn't bet on NHL games, then why is he suspended for such a long time?
I am sick of these gambling ads every. waking. minute. during games. We see the league's stars in gambling ads all the time. Maybe this Mickey Mouse league should get better sponsors.
More than likely he either used a proxy or gave inside info for friends/family to profit themselves. Certainly wasnt because he was betting on other sports. What a joke. The guy didn't even bet on hockey. Who cares if he bet on another sport? Man, the NHL keeps giving itself black eyes. Embarrassing.
Fair enough. I only brought up Pete Rose because Garrioch said if the NHL had proof Pinto bet on the games they would have thrown him out of the league forever. Only comparison I could think of for that would have been Pete Rose. All of this is speculation of course because we have no idea what the hell has happened here and considering a player has been suspended for half a season that’s really bizarre.Even if Pinto did bet on the NHL, comparing him to Pete Rose is really something.
Pete Rose bet on MLB games, including Reds games, when he was the manager of the Reds. He reportedly spent 8-10k a day gambling on baseball while still managing. And the MLB was reasonably convinced he specifically bet against the Reds.
And Rose’s ban became a lifetime ban because he’s an asshole (that’s the short version).
Pinto isn’t under contract right now. He deserves to be punished but that’s a bizarre comparison.
In 2020 Peter Beyer, a minor league player with the A’s, got a 3 year ban for betting on baseball, including multiple A’s games. (They also said he obstructed the investigation.)

Ex-Minor League Pitcher Remains on MLB’s Banned List for Betting on Baseball
Peter Bayer, a former minor league pitcher, has spent the past two seasons on the MLB’s banned list for betting on baseball. The Commissioner’s Office recently denied Bayer’s latest request for rei…ublawsportsforum.com
41 games ? F#$% off.
If they think they are putting out some fake example that "our game
has to protect its integrity" ........that ship sailed long ago with all the betting
So when is the PA appealing this? Because 41 games is ridiculously overkill.
Seriously? You think because they have a sticker in the helmet that suddenly changes someone’s ability to not gamble and to follow the terms of the contract they signed. I don’t know if you realize how insulting that is to the full grown men who play in the NHL.But again.... note the logo on the helmet that Shane Pinto has to wear as a member of the Ottawa Senators

Once again, what did the league think was going to happen by doing this?
The league is making money on gambling. They don't give a damn about the integrity of the league. They are afraid people won't bet if they think results are not legitimate. So say he was giving out information to someone for betting purposes. How does this affect anyone who doesn’t gamble on NHL or the integrity of the league in any meaningful way? Is the integrity of the league that closely tied to gambling? Id you are betting huge money on Senator games that’s your own damn fault for being a degenerate
The thing is that news reports state that he did not bet on NHL games.Every league does it. Its not hard, you cant gamble on something you can have a hand in, just like insider trading of stocks.
There is more to this. Pinto has already admitted fault and sounds like he is accepting the penalty. If he just bet $100 on an NFL game this is not the punishment. The thing is that news reports state that he did not bet on NHL games.
The irony and hypocrisy of the NHL in regards to gambling is very telling how much the NHL is a business with physcopathic tendencies.
What pisses me off immensely is the fact that the NHL thinks this matter is closed without revealing what Pinto has done. Eh, how about no?Do people honestly think he got the suspension for betting on other sports? How naive can you be?
Theres two plausible scenarios:
He had a proxy placing bets for him
or
He was giving inside information about the league to someone else to place bets.
