Why would their jobs ever be on the line? Who could replace them that would be better :s. You guys want shit gms like JFJ and Lou Lam?

I completely understand the vitriol from many fans. After the collapse against Montreal, I wanted heads to roll.

As difficult as it is, if you look at this past season in a vacuum (including the playoffs), which technically should be the most accurate indicator of the progression of this club, it's very difficult to justify firing anyone or shaking up the core at this point. It felt like we were cheated by officiating this time and truly deserved a better fate. I honestly can't fault the core players or the coaching staff.

I have no issues with giving this regime one last opportunity to try and get over the hump. If they fail again next season, there will be no debate and it will be time to clean house.

It shouldn't surprise anyone.

Most GMs get a considerable length of time on the job, no signs that it would be any different for Shanahan-Dubas (regardless of how one feels about them). And the fact they can point to fairly tangible points (winning the North Division last season; setting franchise record this one ect), they were almost certainly a lock for coming back for at least one more season.

If I am Matthews and the team still hasn't advanced next season beyond round 1, I am not signing that extension.

Rangers, Boston, Kings, Ducks etc could all be more interesting.
If the money is there and he believes the team is trying to win, can't see him leaving.
Part of the deal. They have to agree on any changes.
Been a fan of this team since 1992. 30 years.
30 years? Amateur!
I can't wait to see how much respect we get at the handshake line next year
Maybe a nice gift bag.

Multiple losses in a row, ones they should have won including this year, and they're just running it back. This has become an embarrassment of a team. I actually do agree that they were better than Tampa in that series and they really did get hosed by refs but if they're the better team then they should make it through regardless.

These guys have become plush at their jobs. What'll happen next year, they maybe get out of the 1st round then lose in the 2nd or 3rd to a team that plays hard and is faster? The job security here is embarrassing. Just running it back and only making changes that are either forced or on the periphery.

I got a very zen vibe from the group through these pressers. they have relinquished their attachments; things like wins and losses no longer affect them; they have transcended such dichotomies. very interesting.

Considering where the organization has been for most of the past 25 to 55 years having a great regular season team with big time star power isn’t the worst purgatory…

I guess if you take the long, long view they need to stay on positive direction over the next few years, re-sign Auston Matthews who buys in long term and gently pivot out of the next 3 years of Tavares.

Though for most of the last 20 years, the Leafs have been terrible regular season team too. We spent a good 10-12 years in the darkness between the JFJ/Burke/Noni's "retool" years into the early rebuilding ones from Shanahan.

I wonder if they inquired on Trotz and he declined an offer, seems likely. If they made this decision without trying to get Trotz then Dubas should be gone. I truely believe he's got a good head on his shoulders but if you're sticking with Keefe because he's your guy sorry but you have reached your exp date.

Next low water mark for me is if he moves one of the big 4 or just shuffles the deck. Marner needs to be moved and depth added aggressively.

What progression is everyone taking about? We regressed imo, last year Carey price stole the series, we didn’t have Tavares, and muzzin. This year we had way better defence, good third line, full team, many options, and still didn’t get it done. Are we just banking on better officiating next year? What about the full health we had this year?

I remember so many people critizing fans for being pissed off last year. Tavares being injured was the sole reason we lost. Anyone who didn’t understand that wasn't a real fan. Dubas is the best thing ever amd just had to come back because we once employed Dave Nonis.

No one, other than the fans who were pissed off, allowed the fans to be pissed off last year.

They also played a much better team than the Habs. Went 7 games and got decided by 1 goal. In a short series a team can also ultimately do most of the right things and still end up losing.

True, but 6 years in a row? Seems the boys at the top are getting comfy with their trying real hard.
Josh Donaldson once said, this is not the Try Real Hard League.....

It's astonishing that any large company would look at a track record of high-level, very well compensated managers and see nothing but failed expectations and say, "Okay, guys, keep it up and we'll see you at the end of next quarter."

What better way to push a team to finally get past whatever is holding them back by continuously patting them on the back? If there is no accountability for failure, and clearly there isn't when it comes to the president, GM and coach, then how worried are the players about being held accountable?

DeBoer and Trotz miss the playoffs after taking their teams deep twice in previous seasons and they're fired this year for missing the playoffs. Keefe, coaching a stronger (regular season) team than both Vegas and the Isles, leads his team to a first round exit 3 years running (all against lower seeds) and he's given a pat on the back and "Don't worry buddy, you're going to be a great coach in 10 years!"

As for the players, just one of many examples, how worried is Nylander that despite repeatedly doing everything he can to avoid physical contact throughout his career and never once (that I recall) even being benched for a shift or two to send a message, that somehow he has to change that? He's not worried, he's learned that in the Leafs organization, there is no accountability, no one that will call him out.

When people talk about the Leafs team being soft, it is little wonder why? The organization is soft, from the very top down.

As I posted earlier today.......

"Everyone will come back for 21-22 and 22-23"

BOW DOWN AND PRAISE ME!!!!!!!!!!

My lucky number is 9...........so, yeah.
Good to know that you finally acknowledge that you're satisfied with constant 1st round exists.

Complacency is king in Toronto. They'll make rivers of money without having to care what the end result is. Fans will still sell out home games, merchandise sales will be through the roof. It's little motivation to do anything but status quo when it won't impact their bottom line that much.

It's the sad reality of being a Leafs fan, where complacency is absolutely king.
