Jack Hughes was drafted in the 2019 entry draft.

We drafted Brady Tkachuk in the 2018 entry draft, a draft in which New Jersey drafted 17th overall.

Who started their rebuild first again?
Not sure if anyone had commented on this already but Nico Hischier was drafted 1st overall in 2017.

And, to get this out the way, I have been impatient to get past the rebuild and have made plenty of comments about the length of time it has been taking and the need to start showing results now.

Man, has Zub ever had a sub-par year. I fully believe he will bounce back next year but the string of injuries, particularly the broken jaw, really set him back. As a result, he has never truly looked comfortable...
I think its all the players started calling him "Zubie, Zubie, Zubie" in a high pitched voice when he walked in the room.

With Joseph out that third line needs a boost. Call up a kid. Need a spark
That 3rd line has needed a spark all year . even with Joseph
Tk Stu Batherson
Dcat Greig Giroux
Brass Pinto Gauthier

Well bows the chance to get one in there cuz there’s no contractual obligations keeping him there. Although I think joseph has been really good for 2 and a bit weeks

B Cassidy excellent coach (doing great in Vegas)
Boston went out and tried to upgrade
Look where they are now
Maybe change the coach and it will bring even more success than all the already multiple , multiple succes DJ has had over his tenure here in Ottawa… maybe

And also it’s the easiest thing to change with the largest chance of decent rate of return lol

“There’s more than just the coach!
Chabot is playing bad. Our finishing stinks too!”

Okay well are we trading Chabot? How do we fix our finishing. Changing the coach is something that happens often and not sure why it’s so frowned upon here. There wasn’t this much backlash for Boucher or Maclean lol.

DJ has always been stubborn. Why would that shock you?
According to one of his former players who I know his motto is 'I will always win with my best'. In which he described he just plays the players who he thinks give him the best chance to win. Rarely will he react to a depth player who is hot and increasing his minutes or opportunity and rarely will he ever sit or bench one of the top players if they are playing poorly. Which is very stubborn and one of his biggest weaknesses.

Which can definitely trickle down to accountability and attention to detail/structure.

Why because you didn’t like their answers?
Actually no. Because they flat out wouldn't answer.

I'd be like "so explain what is it with our structure that causes problems" and it was either crickets or insults.

It wasn't that I didn't like the answer, it was that not a single guy that I asked to explain even attempted to.

Just off the eye test, imo a lot of that is on Pinto. He's not been good in his own end. Given his defensive pedigree coming out of college I expected more defensively from Pinto.

It is three players together that probably shouldn't be though.

Why don't you explain it. Do you think they plan Man to Man or a Man and Zone hybrid in the Dzone or neither?

That is true, but so is the converse. People who are defending the coach aren't explaining what does his system consist of and why that is a good idea either.

Then you simply haven’t been reading the posts of a lot of us for the last 5 years.

It’s not like the people that like DJ know hockey and the people that don’t like DJ don’t know hockey. Many of posts on DJs on ice weaknesses.

Why don't you explain it. Do you think they plan Man to Man or a Man and Zone hybrid in the Dzone or neither?
He’s an nhl coach and we are not. He is the expert and we are not. It’s the same argument that’s been made here time and again and will continue to be mad where forever.

“cowen is an nhl pro. What are you exactly?!??”

False. I treat DJ fairly. I will compliment him where he deserves to be complimented, and I'll criticize him where he deserves criticism.

Unlike some here, I look at the facts and reality, then build a narrative around that. Others around here build a narrative, then selectively ignore facts that go against that narrative. It's mind-blowing that so many around here flat out refuse to give DJ any credit for how good our special teams have been this year. They'll fish out any excuse possible, like "special teams play themselves, the players are just good, etc." in order to refuse to give DJ any credit.
Your are so right... how dare anybody not accept your position and refuse to praise DJ when you demand it? It IS totally mind-blowing that others have a different perspectives, choose their own facts upon which to draw their own conclusions. Shocking! How can this be when you are the sole arbiter of truth and correctness? All I ask is that you permit me to continue to bask in your greatness.

It's been a tough stretch of games. Playing our 3rd and 4th string goalies who have no NHL experience is a baptism by fire. We have been letting in about 5 goals a game the last 4 games. Mandolese and Sogaard are still developing. It is a big ask for these two goalies to be thrust into playing number 1 and number 2 goalie at this stage of their development.
Hopefully they will turn out long-term but we definitely need Talbot and Forsberg back for the experience.

Very few of us here are able to provide quality analysis of the system the team uses. We aren't professionals (pros makes mistakes but they also know the field)

It boils down to two opposing visions:

- Some of us think that the coach should be able to address recurring mistakes and that it makes it his responsibility
- Some of us think the recurring mistakes are on the players, end of story, that's life

Anyone seriously defending DJ is playing devil's advocate. That being said, obviously, everything isn't on him.

I would love to know what some people think the role of coach is, if not to identify errors their players are making and instruct them so that those mistakes can be corrected.

The on-ice mistakes may be on the players, but the buck ultimately stops at Smith. We can't fire the players, but we can sure as heck fire the coach - and we absolutely will if Dorion thinks it'll by him a bit more leeway.
