Will be interesting to see if final sale price comes in at $1B or much less….that might give us a hint on why Remington/reynolds were so pissed if they clearly had the highest bid
It wont be much less. The lowest reported bid was 850 mill and I’m sure that wasn’t even a final offer type of bid. I would say it’s 90% certain the Sens sold for a Billion or real close.

You should, as some are successful, and some are disasters.

A good idea doesn’t make for a good documentary.

The Cleopatra Documentary released last week sounds like a good idea. Unfortunately, the director, hosts, and producers brought on to see it through made the worst reviewed show in History with their choices.

I meant I don't care who, provided they are good. They can hire any director or actor, and maybe even someone better than Ryan Reynolds if they really want to or care to.

I obviously wouldn't suggest Hiring some bum off the streets to make a series.

I'm just saying if this idea of a series is a money maker, they could do it regardless of if Ryan Reynolds is part of it or not.

Surely, Hollywood celeb is part of the story, no? Now we have 'guy buys team and might stay in Kanata, who knows" The mind reels with the options.

Now, seeing the casual meet and greet in a pub with fans per WtW would have been fun. Substitute the angry Welsh fan who wanted to bad mouth everyone with Brian5or6, and you have some local colour.

I just mean if it's a good idea, they can hire any big time actor or celebrity to host a series. Plenty of series are successful without Ryan Reynolds. Either the idea is money maker or it's not.

Of course, but it requires the motivation and desire to do it and the right people. We all know how much content turns out to be crap. For all we know, the new owner may not be interested and won't allow it. With Reynolds it was all but guaranteed from the sound of it. It was also based on the idea of building downtown and following that process, which we don't know if that's in the new owners plans. There's certainly no interesting show without that process.

There's also the quality factor. I am not a soccer fan at all, so I've never actually seen WtW, but by word of mouth it is apparently really well done. We could end up with some bland bs like some of the "behind the scenes" shows the NHL had put together.

I'm just saying if there's an actual good idea for a series, they can hire any celebrity or actor or director to run the series.

You do have a point that the new owner might not want it...but if it generates the owner lots of income, then they would probably sign off.

Didn't the Sens already have a series (or whatever) like this?
Habs had 24CH, which was a TV series that lasted a few years with multiple episodes, in English (and probably in French too).

I remember owning a 10 year anniversary VHS on the sens, and knew many others that also had it, so it was atleast mildly popular in the Ottawa area.

RR gas massive reach, influence, “coolness”, business acumen, and has recent success during the exact type of documentary we all hoped he would do for the senators.

He also has an Ottawa ties, has no big controversies in his past, and self-admittedly would be a rabid Senators fan.

The guy got a standing ovation when he showed his face at a Senators game. He went on a late night talk show and had the senators on entertainment news around the world. He brought excitement here and abroad with just pitching the idea of being a part of this.

To argue “if it’s a good idea someone else could do it” is too simplistic and misses the broader picture of what is lost.

It’s really unfortunate he’s not willing to work with the winner, assuming that’s true. Whoever’s fault it is.

My reading is he is/was willing, but wants real % and not a token %. Other bidders either didn't offer that or no real conversations happened. If it's a % thing, then the article is out and the winner can respond accordingly if they want to sell of some of their share.

Sounds like the process continues to be among the most vibrant ever to exist. So exciting.

Also the pharmaceutical company
They have a perfume company a real estate company sports concussion company another company that supplies home decore items and I would Imagine heavy stock investments in many things.
The myth that the Sens supported some fabulous lifestyle for the Melnyk clan is nonsense
