It's going to be hilarious to see everyone wishing Dorion back if he's replaced by Staios.

Sounds like the Reynolds ship has sailed. He aligned himself with the Remington group, whether that was for his documentary he was making or because he truly believed in their vision, he put all his eggs in one basket. And the group tried to get special treatment, when there was several billionaires with roots already in the NHL… that was never going to happen nor should it have.

Remington really f'd this entire thing up, wish Reynolds chose another partner that doesn't have a history of doing this exact same thing before.

I also wish he would join a new bid, closing the door on joining any ownership group seems petty to me when he was so enthusiastic just a few months ago.

The other bidders may only want him involved as a celebrity spokesman (like Snoop) rather than a significant equity investor.

Maybe the Melnyks and the NHL hired a PR company to make this a bigger story than it would be to bring notoriety to the league? Think about it, Reynolds, Snoop, The Weeknd, Russel Peters, Donovan Bailey? Has anyone ever had this type of interest in a professional sports team ever? I don't think Revnolds was ever really part of seriously taking over this team and he and Remington made up some dumb reason to pull out. This now looks like just a marketing campaign to prop up a league that is still not respected by the US media.

It's hard to think of another reason why RR would lock himself like that. Perhaps the Remington Group were willing to be the sugar daddy he said he needed. Maybe hoping that would help them win exclusive negotiating rights. Makes it sound now like the Remington group wasnt willing to make the blind bid like the others.

Not a chance. This some tinfoil hat nonsense.

If this ends up being true, just hope Andlauer has enough money to spend to the cap every year regardless of revenue.

I suspect it would only be an issue until the team moves downtown, but still the last thing we need is another money-in money-out owner.

My “source” is out of the office for the long weekend, so I don’t want to bother/ask.

When I met up with him last week, he expected it would be Andlauer so that wouldn’t surprise me at all.

Martian is solid, I expect his source is either on the finance or HR side of things, as a lot of what he passes on is the sort of stuff I used to get.

Andlauer has been a safe bet ever since the remington bid folded and probably throughout. Part of the ownership clique.

I'm guessing the arrangement between RR and Remington was along the lines of him getting some level of free reign in implementing his vision for the franchise while Remington would leverage the team+arena development into a larger real estate play and then sell their equity in the team once it was built up (presumably with RR attempting to buy some of that extra stake in the future).

He isn't joining other investors because those guys have their own ideas and as other have suggested they're just looking for the celebrity endorsement marketing angle, not for an actual partner.

Regarding RR, why does everyone say missed opportunity for the NHL as if the NHL caused them to back away? His group was trying to circumvent the process and get an exclusive negotiating window. If he didn’t join the process to walk away at the last moment then maybe they shouldn’t have…?

I’m incredibly disappointed as well that he’s not part of this and he’s seemingly closed the door. But let’s stop pretending it wasn’t in their control either, he and Remington could have still submitted a bid
