I don't want to be a downer lol but I think we look worse than we have the past 2 seasons. We were a high flying offensive team and this season we get hemmed in our own zone the entire game and we've been as boring as any team not named the Isles this season if I'm being honest. Things have certainly changed since the deadline though, but who knows how many of those players we'll be able to keep past this year. I'm a person who likes flash, and loud, bombastic personalities. I think we've created a very milquetoast team reminiscent of our 2010's teams, casting off the guys with "fun" personalities and swagger to them (DeAngelo, Lemieux, Buch, Kravtsov). I find the team overall a lot less likeable now. Watch their interviews, Trouba, Zibanejad, Copp, Fox, all these guys have the personality of a towel & can barely carry a conversation. Just extremely boring humans. No pulse to them. Panarin, Igor & Reaves are very likeable to me but the first two barely speak English and then Reaves is a 4th liner. Just not a fan of the overall direction Drury has taken. He is of a very different school of thought than myself, I think offense is more important than defense, I think skating is the most important attribute in hockey and it's almost as if Drury purposely targets players who can't skate. I value flashiness and players that lift fans out of their seats, I think the entertainment value is a big part of hockey. Kakko & Laf are massively underwhelming yet again and are not looking like they're even going to come close to their pre-draft hype.

I liked the team two seasons ago but forgetting about this season, what was so fun about two mediocre teams that had mediocre records?

this is what I got... It's fair but I expect us to rise a bit. We haven't made the playoffs in 5 years... in that context, it's spectacular

I see us joining the Tampa, Carolina, Toronto tier

Its wild they keep putting the leafs so high on that considering it's been like 19 years since they won a round

The PP with DeAngelo dancing along the blueline, faking out guys and everything was some of the most globetrotter-esque hockey I've ever seen. Was incredible to watch, regardless of results our PP back then was so much more dangerous looking and up-tempo. Our PP is obviously still excellent but it looks like shit a good portion of the time that it doesn't score. If you watch highlights of our PP with DeAngelo in Panarin's first year it was way more dominant than today, Kreider just reached a new level with deflections. DeAngelo & Lemieux were hilarious on and off the ice, they'd always get into antics together and have huge scrums after whistles. There was an edge, a swagger, a chip on their shoulder and you never knew what they were going to do. Buch has like 20+ moments that were absolute memes (crosscheck to the face of Mantha, popping Machands helmet off his head, stealing Elvis's guitar celly, list goes on). That was a fun ass team and seeing those guys lifting the cup together would've been magical. So much personality and charisma to those teams.

Obviously the goal of sports is to win, you're not gonna see me saying "eh, not enough memes" after we win the cup LOL. But I like to have fun along the way and this team is just less fun on and off the ice. You certainly agree with aspects of our play, I've seen you complain a lot in GDT's saying we're playing like shit. We've got outplayed the majority of this season, hence our abysmal analytics and the fact that oddsmakers have us bellow teams that aren't even in a playoff spot.

This PP is way more effective than any PP since like 94. The Rangers aren't the Islanders (most of the time), they're not winning games where the offense has been sucked out of the game.

This is just BS. The biggest proponents of buying were me, McRanger 92, Anthony5967 and Kovelev27. None of us said trade every prospect and pick. We said the team has holes, address the holes with all of that cap space that we have and will never have again. We all had three or four players/prospects that we pretty much agreed to be available. Drury far exceeded expectations, at least mine, in what he gave up in filling the needs of this team, which anyone with two eyes and a half of brain could see, to make a deep run. So, yes, this is what the “Buy Crowd” was indeed asking for and your attempt to lump a couple of posters with ridiculous proposals in is just revisionist history.
Yep. Branding large swathes of people based on some random outlier statement to backup an argument is an awfully popular tactic here. Unfair, disingenuous, and irritating. But nonetheless, common.

Drury retooled at the TDL in a way that really made me happy - I'm not smart enough to hand pick the same players he targeted/obtained but it's the result I wanted. We have as good of a chance as any team if everyone buys in, largely stays healthy and play within our new depth.
Exactly. And for what it’s worth, I’d say 90% of all rangers fans wanted this. Just plug the holes and bolster the team by leveraging cap space and some lower draft choices. It’s a myth that a large group wanted to “sell the farm” for big ticket items. And also very few wanted to be sellers, for that matter. Drury did the sensible thing and the pro scouting looks to have been spot-on, thankfully.

Nonsense. No one ever claimed you said trade every pick. It’s a flat out lie that the majority of pro-buyers didn’t want to trade Nils, Krav, and other high end assets.

And I know for a fact this is the case because when it came out that it was just seconds for Copp all the anti-buyers like me were almost universally fine with it whereas we had been opposed to most other suggestions.

Spare me what is revisionist history because it’s the narrative that JT Miller at whatever cost wasn’t the main target of certain posters.

Those stats are no doubt highly weighted towards the bulk of the season which was pre-TDL and the NYR performance was worse.

This is a completely different team now with the AHLers largely out of the lineup and the Panarin line firing 5v5 with Copp. Plus Miller growing leaps and bounds over the course of the season.

Run the MoneyPuck odds post-TDL and I guarantee they get much more favorable.

The numbers don’t mean “nothing.” They just aren’t gospel.

In reality we struggled the vast majority of the year and that’s what those numbers reflect. It’s also unlikely that a team turns it around so dramatically mid year as it appears we may be in the process of doing, though it does occasionally happen.

It also is on the rarer side that a team has as many young players who will improve over the season, like we have.

The prevailing mood here has gone from I hope we can win one round to we're headed on a deep run.

Will be interesting to see the mood after the upcoming Carolina game, depending on that result.

I think we match up well against the Penguins. Anyone else I would not put money on us winning.

It's just great to be back in the dance. The Letter, the Rebuild, moving a bunch of players that you really liked for futures.

It's been a rough few years trying to get this right. Who to keep, who to let go. Are we rushing prospects or not pushing them enough. Do we have the right coach.

All that talk is done. The team has shown they have kept the right players, add the right young guys, and moved on to the right coach.

It's now time to begin the really fun part of this. No more lotto balls. It's time to win. Doesn't matter what anyone else says. This team is at the big kids table and they've got a chance.

The team has a future to protect and needs to keep an eye on that as well. It can’t go full speed ahead with no eye on the future.

It needs young centers. Perhaps it can do both.

Winning team has to make sacrifices because of the salary cap. Story at 11

Seriously though, this is the price of doing business. Deal with it, and enjoy the ride.

Or don’t, and just always be miserable.

I’m enjoying it. I don’t disregard the future, though.

All that is for the off season. None of those things matter between now and when the Cup is handed out. I don't care in the least about anything other than the rest of this season. Why in any way shortchange now with thoughts of might be and what will we do?

Until I see that the Rangers can play on equal footing with Carolina, they, along with Florida and TB remain a notch ahead of us in my mind. That will be a fascinating game.

If memory serves me correct, Carolina and Calgary have been the two teams that thoroughly outplayed the Rangers earlier this season.

stop.

you thought KAM would be outplaying Fox? no shot..

That's why they are kind of useless though. They don't take a lot of other factors into context. It is not November and this current team is playing far better 5 on 5, and has added 4 NHL bodies at the deadline plus Kakko. Feel free to use those odds while betting.

It's just that you can see how this team is actually built towards playing playoff hockey. And it all starts from the goalie out,.... to playing great D in front of him, and being hard to play against with in your face hockey. Reavo, Hunt, Goodrow, and Rooney are going to be very influential in our success. It's always the guys you never think of that come up big.

Went to the game. Phenomenal performance with the exception of a bit of a lackluster start to the third. CK really enjoyed his second goal. Igor came up big a few times. Even Kakko looked alright all things considered.

Rooney is 3 or 4 playoff goals away from the Goodrow contract from some bubble team

Wow! Just Wow. I can't believe what I'm reading. I'm shocked you believe this.

Before you can get fans to jump out of their seats, those seats need to be filled. And that is only possible by winning. And wining hockey games is all about playing sound defensively.
You know this. This isn't rocket science.

Didn't Drury go out and get Motte and Vatrano. Don't we look a lot faster now?

Where is this all coming from? This is a side of you I haven't seen.

Just because the players don't smile in postgame interviews? Maybe you would prefer having Torts back? If you really want entertainment value.
