I think that's basically what they're doing. They are disinterested and lackadaisical.

I think they'll get serious down the stretch. It's a very long season.

Sure. This reminds me of the possibly apocryphal story of a Russian psychic named Frenkel who felt he had the power to stop a train with his mind. However, this power would only manifest itself when it was truly needed, in a life threatening situation. So, Frenkel positioned himself on the tracks and... well, the results were predictable.

Point being, if you think you can just leave your skills dormant until they're really needed, you will probably get jolted.

Losing to a draft lottery team sure is pretty sobering.

I am still beyond disgusted.

That draft lottery team, even before today, is above .500 at home and has won 14 of 29 games there, including against Montreal, Dallas, San Jose, and Pittsburgh twice. We're in good company.

Awesome .gif though :)

It does sound like Paul “Don’t change anything until we lose in the playoffs “ Maurice.

I truly believe that some people would prefer a team comprised entirely of third and fourth line grinders because they play “hard”.

Laine has more goals this season, the worst stretch of hockey in his career, than Tanev does in HIS ENTIRE NHL CAREER (170 GAMES!) throughout his prime yet most people in this reactionary fanbase think he contributes more to the team.
I'm completely baffled by it.

Take one hot month away and Liane is on pace for about 15 goals. I’m not saying that Tanev has more upside than Liane, I’m just saying there’s no way I’d give Laine a contract fit for a 40 goal scorer next year.

The angst around here is crazy. Do yourselves a favor and go look at the Oilers board. It will totally reset the anxiety surrounding the top team in the central and one of the best teams in the NHL. Lol.

Except for one hot month, he’s not shown himself to be a 40 goal scorer this year. It’s very possible he will never reach the levels of his first two years as a pro.

"Except for the two years and two months where he has been an elite goalscorer at a remarkably young age he hasn't shown himself to be anything!"

It amazes me how little some people think

What’s your prediction on Laine’s next contract ? I suggested room and board.

I was listening to the 1290 post game show, and they were saying they feel there is some kind of dissention or conflict in the dressing room. I believe this would be correct, and I would bet it all stems from Laine. If he's playing bad, he should suffer the consequences like any other player.

Maybe sit the guy out for a game or 2 --who's running the show here ?? -Laine or Maurice ?? I think Maurice has to take action, and send a message.

Yeah you are so right also can you believe how terrible that McDavid contract is when you take out his 20 best games? Unbelievable that Chiarelli would give a bum like that 12.5 million when he isn't even PPG after taking out his hot streak!

Lol why because you think your dream of getting Maurice fired is gonna happen?
Hot takes galore

I think if Bro played the way he can we win this one. We weren't great but we weren't as bad as we were in Montreal, by a long shot.

Myers and Lemieux were very good. Morrow and Chiarot were awful.

So many bad passes and turnovers by many. Nice to see Laine generate something - though he's still moving around the ice like a sad tortise

No. But Maybe our coach would finally actually do something to help the team instead of continuing to send 55 and 26 out there every 30 seconds to get owned.
The Dumbass switched up the lines today in the 3rd... Moved copp to lowry and Tanev.. Roslo down... Perreault to line 2.

B4 that.. Line 2 and 4 were bringing it. After? Not so much.

81 55 26 literally are coasting in the D zone after 2 minutes plus shifts against a bottom feeder but ya pretend there aren't legit concerns with coaching and u are kidding yourself. Fired? No. In a week or 2? Maybe tho.

Just saying that he’s not worth a big long term investment yet. A bridge deal would make a lot more sense at this point considering his level of play this year.

Wheeler and Scheif are running the show.

To bad we can't bridge wheeler tho. Cuz hes the biggest problem right now. Ppl need to open their eyes.. Watch him on the ice.. Coasting.. Over playing and coasting.. Zero effort in d zone. Ive seen 29 at the hashmarks in the D zone... Scheif and Wheeler prefer chilling near the point

Young players are inconsistent and being scared off and giving someone a bridge deal due to one real poor stretch is just asking for trouble a couple of years down the road.

I would still happily pay him good money on a long term deal. The kid has been at the top of the team in terms of GAR and WAR his first two years. He will get back there I have no doubt about it.

As happy as I am that we’re not the Oilers, it doesn’t mean there aren’t reasons to sound the alarm on this team. It’s fair to say last season spoiled us as fans but most of us came into this season with serious cup aspirations. The team has had mediocre metrics all year and while the record is still great, things are starting to trend towards what the metrics would expect them to be. And as flawed as the eye test is, most people would agree that despite the victories, this is not close to the same team it was last year. Obviously, we don’t know what the end result of this season will be, but we have every right to not be satisfied with the past month or so.

It's just that so rarely do players of this pedigree fail which makes it very risky to bridge and the this slump could be a huge blessing in dropping the AAV longterm even if it's only 500k or so.
