I can see the Jets pushing for a bridge contract with Laine they did it with Morrissey and I know one thing eventually they are both going to make big coin for a good many years.

I think the reason Niku is not in the lineup is that his play would be so good that other teams would demand him in return for a rental.
I think the Jets will make a deal and then we'll see Niku in the lineup regularly.

After watching Montreal get 53 shots on our Goal--that's right 53 -- I'm convinced we need some dominance and speed at the 2nd line center ice position. I really do think we should go all in on Duchene-providing we can extend him after.

We're lacking speed right now, especially on that 1st and 2nd line, and it will be a big boost to get the speedy and flashy Ehlers back. One of the "fastest" in the NHL.

Even with Ehler's back tho--we have to put out a much better effort to win.

By my twisted logic that's still more than Schief so I expect him to be a better player and I'd bet he will be.
Therefore more criticized when they play equal.

I don't understand why people keep bringing up Scheifele's deal and comparing him to our other young players.... Do you not think Scheifele wouldn't have signed for more if he had a resume that supported it?

Scheifele's first three years:

34 points, 49 points and 61 points.

Laine's

64 points and 70 points and has 36 so far this year. He is also going to have three straight years of over 30 goals.

Laine's performance before his second contract kicks the crap out of Scheifele's. Laine also did it at younger age. Had we actually bridged Scheifele because he hadn't proven over a significant amount of time he was an elite player we would be paying him 10 million a year right now. Mark wasn't signed to an elite player deal as he had only showed about half a season of elite play. Laine has shown about 2 and a quarter year of it. He will and deserves to get more as his resume is pretty darn amazing for his age. There are very few who have accomplished as much as he has at this stage of their careers.

No. Get rid of some of the vets who are likely holding ppl back. U think Wheeler who cries and *****es when u criticize his play is blowing it up? Stone replaces Wheeler. I trade Wheeler knowing Stone is signing long term.

You don't know Stone is signing long term until July 1 when he signs.

You also said look at reading Wheeler, Little, and Buff. Moving all of those pieces is blowing it up, because you're getting futures for them

No way Laine gets a big contract if his play does not improve. He will agree to a bridge.
Jets sign Conner to long term and bridge Laine.

Do people not realize that Connor only has 7 more points and less goals then Laine this year despite playing on the first line the entire year. Even so he is pacing to produce less points then Laine did his first two years. I find it interesting that we use a couple month sample to say one player has earned a long term deal while a slumping player who has proven significantly more as a younger player hasn't.

I mean if a slumping Laine isn't producing that much less then Connor who is playing good hockey then what exactly does that say about Connor.

Maybe its time tho.. But since you cant do all that i guess..only option is to get rid of the coach

Yes. We also think our 20 yr old kid should be as good as 55 and 26 who play half the game every game .

Laine has shown in the past he can be an elite scorer, which arguably is the ultimate objective. But he’s not shown to be an elite player. He can’t drive his line, he can’t create turnovers. He doesn’t have elite speed, he doesn’t win board battles, etc. Scheifele did all that (albeit not lately).

The team is third overall and people are talking about firing the coach and trading the star vets.

You always gotta look to the future in this game.. Would u trade 30 something buff if it means 8 would stick around? Would you trade 18 if you had a younger 2 center? Would u move wheeler if you could get the younger better overall stone? You'd ve dumb not 2.

Wheeler brings back a ton as does buff.

Be crazy not to think about it. Firing the coach is the only other option.. Its actually the one that would help the most imo as its been a few years and the same flaws maurice had years ago are still there .
