I think the Jets past week has been bad, but highly unfair to say there last month was bad, quite the opposite given we were missing Buff and Ehlers.

@Evil Little paying Laine a lot is fine but he/ people around here and have to accept that he'll get criticized more when they fail to produce. Definitely more than a guy getting a million.

If we could trade wheeler and then move our first for stone..id do it. Its apparent change needs to happen and id prefer moving the vet on the 8 plus deal being sent away.

Love Wheeler but its apparent something is up there between him maurice and scheif.

Ive always thought they wont truly be the Winnipeg jets until the players who were here or spent time as thrashers are gone.

Maybe u look at moving 26 18 and 33 soon.

What if 8 won't sign here cuz 33 takes his minutes? Go with the guy in his 30s or the younger Trouba? Duh right.

So blow it up then?

I would not trade Wheeler and then move the 1st for Stone who could go wherever he wants in July.

It's just that so rarely do players of this pedigree fail which makes it very risky to bridge and the this slump could be a huge blessing in dropping the AAV longterm even if it's only 500k or so.
Maybe... but there’s so many red flags with Liane, such as his compete level, character, skating and consistency, that I’m thinking the risk of a bridge deal is better than the risk of a longer term contract. Having said that, if someone submitted a 10M offer sheet I’d probably want to match it.

Yup this team needs to change up the PP maybe putting a guy in front to muck up things would be better than constantly trying cross ice passes, 2 different styles of pp would be a nice change up.
The optimal PP1: Stick Ehlers on the half wall as the passer/shooter,
Connor in his spot down low, Scheif in the low slot, Buff up top, Laine far slide slot. Essentially the same PP with Ehlers replacing Wheeler. The advantage: Ehlers can handle the puck and keep his head up at the same time, he can one time and shoot it as a left hand shot, he is a superior passer.
PP2: Little as the passer on the half wall, Wheeler down low, Lowry low slot, Morrissey up top, Perreault far side.

I think saying his character is a red flag is unfair. His skating and effort level, fine but he holds himself accountable for poor play and is by all accounts a good team player.

No. Get rid of some of the vets who are likely holding ppl back. U think Wheeler who cries and bitches when u criticize his play is blowing it up? Stone replaces Wheeler. I trade Wheeler knowing Stone is signing long term.

As happy as I am that we’re not the Oilers, it doesn’t mean there aren’t reasons to sound the alarm on this team. It’s fair to say last season spoiled us as fans but most of us came into this season with serious cup aspirations. The team has had mediocre metrics all year and while the record is still great, things are starting to trend towards what the metrics would expect them to be. And as flawed as the eye test is, most people would agree that despite the victories, this is not close to the same team it was last year. Obviously, we don’t know what the end result of this season will be, but we have every right to not be satisfied with the past month or so.

Well said and I agree with this. The team looks like it has been going through the motions most of the year. I get they want to have energy for the playoffs but as I have stated multiple times I don't believe it is easy to flip a switch and start playing the right way consistently. You need to consistently play the right way so that its ingrained and becomes muscle memory. Far too many of our leaders are existing poor habits right now and imo it has a trickle down effect on the other players in the room.

Also we as fans pay good money to see this team play. I don't blame anyone for feeling annoyed with this team as its clearly playing below its capabilities most nights. At the end of the day this is the entertainment business and fans shell out big money, they have a right to expect the team to put forth an honest effort.

Edit: I am also am a bit annoyed that Maurice is letting the team get away with this. Buff took a 2 plus minute shift to start the second period and he had ample opportunities to get off. That is exhibit A right there for vets to do as they like. When he came in he has constinetly preached that the team needs to do the little things well, they need to learn good habits etc. Now its like he just lets the leaders do what they want while only cracking the whip on the younger guys. Heck from his own mouth he states that he doesn't bother coaching a handful of guys.....

The outcome of the playoffs will determine what moves are made in the off season, early exit might mean some hard decisions with some of the vets, but Trouba wise I think his fate is sealed, Jets can't possibly go into next season with him not signing a long term contract.

Agree. Wheeler is becoming pretty stale and a liability for the future. Don’t know how much flexibility his modified NTC gives us though.

Wheeler's work ethic is second to none.
His shifts are way too long and set a poor example as captain.
He is a very important part of the team.
He should not be the primary passer on the PP. He cannot handle the puck and move with his head up. Far too predictable.
Wheels and Scheif should not be killing penalties. Rest them.

Probably. Let him sit...we won’t miss him. An offer sheet would change things though.
Look, no one is suggesting Laine is playing great or even good right now, but we will miss a 21 year old who has 80 odd career goals. We’re not a team that has the luxury to allow goal scorers to sit due to us lowballing them.
