When Canada tried usa had no answer. The problem is they did look like they were standing around way too much. :shakehead they don't have much chance against Finland if they do it again

You got it, no one on team Canada was trying. Because that's totally realistic. It had nothing to do with how the opposing team was playing and was entirely due to those guys that were wearing the colors of their country not trying. They all got to this level by being lazy.

McDavid has looked so off. In this tournament he seems to be mishandling the puck constantly. Pucks that are bouncing over his stick or passes that are just slightly off were all hitting his blade in the NHL.

I personally think he is dead tired from his first NHL season. His explosiveness just isn't there and I don't know why. You'd often see him turn the jets on and burn any defenceman in the league for a scoring opportunity. He's not even willing to get up to that speed in this tournament. He has this gear when he's breaking out of the zone that he simply has not even bothered using or for some reason can't use here.

Did people think that Americans were just going to roll over and not play hard? That American team was tough and came to win. Full props, awesome game USA.

Should be another good day of hockey tomorrow. Too bad this tournament has to end.

Unbelievable performance by the USA tonight. While having the USA totally outmanned, the Canadians were hanging on by their fingernails at the end. If Canada is that dead-legged and lifeless tomorrow, Finland will rip them a new one!

No, they one again did the classic, silly Canadian strategy of getting a lead and sitting back at 2-0 and 4-3. The Ken Hitchcock special from those tournaments in 2008 and 2009. It rarely works at these IIHF tournaments. In contrast, when Canada was pushing for offense they scored two goals relatively quickly twice in the game.

I know at this tournament Canada doesn't have the same caliber of players, but Canada in Sochi 2014 was a perfect example of how to dictate 60 minutes of hockey regardless of the score. Keep possession of the puck, force your opponents to defend, and they never can get back in the game.

This is much more likely than the players simply "not trying". They sat back on their lead and barely hung on to win the game. Had they stayed aggressive they would have likely won by two or three.

That's a change in strategy, not the players lacking effort like some are saying in an effort to take away from how their opponents played.

You are probably right. When they are pushing they will score at will. They just let the other team hang in there so they don't feel embarrassed.

He's on a point a game clip and was named a game star today .... Relax !

Yeah it's silly to take away from the effort the American players played with. They showed heart and spirit that makes our game great.

I'm not too optimistic of Canada winning tomorrow. The only way is if McDavid puts the team on his back and/or if Talbot shuts the door

USA stated to gel and were believing . Give them credit . If the Russians had that kind of heart they would be in the final . Canada got up 2-0 and took their foot off the pedal. The final wil be very close .

USA outplayed Canada for the most part. They better play better than this or Finland will just score a goal or two and just choke it down.

Please win against Finland. They play a style of hockey that is extremely boring despite having so much talent on the team.

Yep. Finnish Hockey can sometimes look very boring, but what the heck, best entertainment value comes with wins and efficiency anyway. Via Defense, you know. That is partially historical heritage caused by necessities, but luckily there are signs this is changing. However, Finns shouldn't abandon working concept, instead build further on it's solid base.

US played very good game! Take that bronze! Just take it. Want it more! :handclap:

There really are something to fix in Canada's game for tomorrow, otherwise it's going to be likely the clean sweep in this tournament for Finland. Amazing. o_O

Seems to me Dave Cameron has more of his fingerprints on TC's defensive strategy...and if that's the case then that explains a lot.

Yes he was named a top 3 player on this team. I can see it because even though he looks awful (in comparison to his play in the NHL) he's still at a PPG and at times looks to be the most dangerous player on the ice.

He looks similar to how he played at the start of his NHL season. Afraid to show up his teammates. He's deferring to players like Duchene even though he's 10x the player. It will come with age.

What a brutal effort from Canada. Its nice to get the win but that was an embarrassing effort from them out there.

What is the point of going to this tournament if you aren't going to bother to put in an effort? I understand if you just aren't good enough that's fine and understand but to not even try? That seems pretty silly.

With that effort today (and for most of the tournament) I would say guys like Duchene, Perry, Hall and any other guy played themselves off the WC team. Normally I would say showing up to these tournament would boost your Team Canada chances but if you can't be bothered to try what's the point in bringing you to real tournaments?

What a heart attack inducing game that was.:handclap::popcorn:

Well, I was looking forward to a Canada/Russia game...

BTW- I don't know why I feel so strongly about it, but I absolutely hate the #34 for a star player..... there, I said it.

Same..I mean what is he trying to be, a goalie? :help:

That said, Matthews is legit. Hopefully he ends up on a team where #34 is unavailable, that would be good.

Can't agree more. They go there and are superior players in every aspect but they don't bother to try and that's why the game was so close.

Canada was trying to win. The effort was there but they sat back when they had the lead. People saying they weren't trying are insulting an American team that should be proud of themselves today. Sad but proud.

The USA played them tough and 1 game shot's are a different animal. Easy for you to sit on your couch and rip them . Give the Americans credit. At the end of the day Canada is in the final for a 2nd consequtive year. We have a very young team and like all young hockey teams, things will go sideways at times. They collected themselves and rallied, that is a sign of a good team. Faced adversity and fought through it !

When Ceci was with Murray they were the top pair, played the most best plus minus, corsi, scoring etc. Hockey canada wanted Ellis up there i guess. Politics over success unless its best on best par for the course team canada.

They were never the top pair. Rielly and Tanev were the top pair for the whole tournament. They faced against the top competition the whole time and it says a lot that when defending the lead, Peters decides to put Rielly and Tanev out there in the last minutes. Murray played excellent, he was a warrior out there. Ceci was awful in this game and has been pretty bad since the games started getting important.

34 is in honour of his parents. He will likely wear that for the Leafs.

As a Leafs fan things are looking GREAT!!! best D on team Canada in Rielly, best Forward on USA and Komarov being Komarov for the Fins.
