no hes not, people just expect way to much from him.

I agree that his expectations were ridiculous. His name and Hall's were the first brought up by Ray when talking about guys that needed to step up.

As good as he is, he is 19 on a team with guys that have gold medals and Stanley cups.

Guys like Perry, Marchand, and Duchene should be stepping up also.

That being said, he isn't playing like himself. He rarely drives the net. He seems to be shying into the corners and he usually passes and defers to Marchand/Duchene. He has walked better D than anyone on the US roster but over here it looks like he isn't trying.

Good on the Americans for giving a superior Canadian squad a scare.

Hopefully this will inspire more Yanks to come in the future, although the past hasn't shown any indication of that.

I think they've already accomplished more than anyone thought they would in this tournament.

Glad Canada is coming back home with a medal. Not sure this team can beat a superior Finland team, but will be a great game. Hoping the USA can find a way to win the Bronze Medal. They outplayed Canada today. Great hockey, even if it is not Best on Best.

There have been a few occasions, over the course of this tourney, where McD appeared too deferential to his line mates, dishing off the puck when he himself was in a better position to score...

BUT to subscribe to the ( in my mind ) unsubstantiated/nonsensical theory that McD and TC overall are not trying/giving their all...to me, this is just a means of assuaging some delicate Canuck egos/downplaying the fact that TC were being outplayed, over the final 40 minutes, by a young Yankee squad which,on paper, had no business even hanging with them...

I give the Americans credit for playing as well as they could, good for them and they should be proud about they way they played considering the absolute lack of talent they had.

But considering the roster the Americans had, even the US at their best should be easily beat by 5 or 6 goals by this Canadian team if they actually play like they give a damn. Instead the Canadians lazily skated around like it was a pre-game skate and we see a 1 goal game based solely on the lack of effort from Team Canada.

Yeah yeah, if TC is being outplayed ( for forty minutes no less ) it can only mean they're not trying :shakehead

Canada was trying to win. The effort was there but they sat back when they had the lead. People saying they weren't trying are insulting an American team that should be proud of themselves today. Sad but proud.

Couldn't Agree More...

I agree, Rielly is so young yet looks great. Also, Ellis is amazing, the guy can hold the line like no one on this team.

Yeah, He's always been great at holding /walking the line...Worked to perfection in 2009 World Juniors, when TC played a very high risk/reward umbrella pp system, with PK Subban as rover/ extra forward and Ellis pretty much all alone at the blue...They went an astounding 21 of 42 on pp in that tourney...

Ellis was back for the next WJ tourney, but by then Yanks had figured out how to defeat that umbrella, leading to an avalanche of shg's against. PK was the perfect rover...Petro NOT SO MUCH...

Yeah about Finland being superior .... They were completely dominated today and Canada showed more heart, grit and skill . Underestimating Canada is a very foolish thing to do !

the only way to beat team Canada

great goaltending, and even have the goalie steal a game
strong, fast and great puck-moving D
12 blinding fast forwards

get team Canada to take a few bad penalties

We're good, but we're not infallible!
