Laine wouldn't have made any difference in this series. He would have caused two goals for every one he scored.

I don't know Ehlers and Laine at least had some magic. Dubois had a terrible series. So many plays died on his stick. So many bad penalties. Bad coverage spelled the end.

I don't know if it is injury, or the fact that Tortorella simply made Dubois better.

But that defense is the biggest problem. How do you sustain any offense with that defense? Without De Melo, who had a pretty good series against Edmonton, the depth was going to be tested. At least this should be the last year you ever see Poolman on a top 4 pairing, if you ever see him again as a Jet. Thank you for the big momentum changing goal in game 1, in Edmonton.

Be interesting to see where the Jets go from there. I think any combination of Morrissey, De Melo, Stanley and Pionk can work as a top 4, if we can keep them all (and that should be Chevy's priority). And Heinola is in that mix too. Going to need a stronger RD in the offseason, whether it be in the 1 slot or the 3.

I think the vets did some good work to get us as far as we did in the regular season (like the Perreault, Thompson, Lewis 4th line), but those guys and Stastny may have to make way for more speed in the team game, something we weren't able to generate, whether it be from defending more than attacking, spacing, coaching, whatever it may be.

The one thing about going younger is you already saw how fragile of a team this is without Scheifele, two years in a row. I'm not sure Dubois or Perfetti can take on that slack. Might not even have Copp back. So Chevy's got some decisions to make. I think beating Edmonton kept Maurice off the hot seat, but Chevy is going to have to be creative to improve this team, especially if it is improvement by negation and promotion within. That's not a guaranteed path to success.

Going to be a disappointing offseason, but when it starts up again, with the fans in the seat, I think there will be some extra thrust behind those Jets.

However good chance we are back in the Central next year, and keeping pace with Colorado will be difficult. St. Louis, Minnesota, Dallas and Nashville are going to be different than beating up on Calgary, Vancouver, and Ottawa.

We go from the greatest team/coach/gm/franchise ever to fire everyone in the span of 2 series.

And anyone who has watched hockey knows that 3 OT games won in a series is a coin toss, and the Jets could have easily lost to Edmonton as well as beating them. I was more than happy we beat Edmonton, but I also realize how close it was to going the other way if it wasn't for Helly. All the games were close and well fought by both teams. The Edmonton sweep was a mirage.

There was nothing close in getting swept by Montreal. We were dominated and embarrassed.

Not sure who called them the greatest team ever after the Edmonton series. If anyone did, they were only watching the score. Helle won is the Edmonton series. We required 3 OT games and Edmonton could have just as easily won those three games. EDM had equal opportunity as us to score goals on OT, difference was Helly stopped them and Mike Smith got beaten.

Anyone who thought that was a phenomenal performance against Edmonton only looked at 4-0 and assumed the team is the best in the world.

We were lucky we were played the Oilers in the first round (and were relatively healthy). The Jets team that stunk up the league for the last part of the regular season was the team that showed up against the Habs.

Well that sucked. Just finished my late, one man viewing party and I'm disappointed to say the least - I was hoping for more.
As a bandwagon jumper, I know I'm not feeling this to the extent that you all are. Ill offer my quick condolences and move on after a few brief words. I appreciate how friendly and welcoming you all have been the last few seasons, been very nice to have a team to root for and decent folk to root with while my team is busy sucking. That first round was a great ride and, though I've stayed pretty quiet, I've really enjoyed reading your comments before, during and after games/series.
Many thanks to you Jets fans, you're the friendliest bunch of strangers around.

PS - Cole Perfetti is still the guy I wish my team had chosen at 4. Was disappointed we didn't select him, but thrilled when he fell to Winnipeg. I hope he takes off for you all.
Stay healthy and safe during your off season, I will most likely see you all at playoff time next season.

Please, feel free to hang around during the regular season. Your balanced input is always welcome. Cheers, friend.

Not at all.

At this point, only your pride is preventing you from saying otherwise.

Look at the trade so far. Dubois has been a flop, we struggled to score goals, PP was pathetic. Dubois has done nothing to show he is an upgrade from Laine.

Also look who else we could have used with Schief suspended....Roslovic that Maurice drove out of town.

Until Dubois becomes the player we were all hoping for, anyone saying Laine is not missed is just lying or has come to the wrong conclusion.

Well, that tends to happen.... when a team suddenly goes from playing a committed and competent brand of hockey ......to playing absolute ridiculous, dumb, and incompetent hockey...... that completely embarrasses our fan base, and makes our team, look like a national joke.

The funny thing is we never did play this so called committed and competent brand of hockey vs EDM. The difference is Helle was spectacular and EDM essentially had one line.

I don't miss the distraction of the "trade talk". I don't think Laine makes any difference in this series.

The Jets PP was 7th in the league this year, and a full 4 points better than last season. Didn't look great against Montreal but they have been the top PK in the playoffs. Ehlers has looked so much better without Laine here. Meanwhile, the Columbus PP he was brought in to boost went from 16.4% and 27th place in 2019-20 to 15.4% and 27th place. Laine made the Jets PP extremely predictable and easy to defend.

Roslovic was never replicating that production here.

I certainly don't miss the constant arguing about him on here.

The biggest issue in this series is the team looked stunned from losing Scheifele and the coaching staff having no answer for the way Montreal played.

After sleeping on it this really isn't the worst thing.

IMO at the start of the year I thought the Jets would be a playoff team and that we would make it to the second round. I thought the second round series would be more hard fought than that but I had it as a coin flip if we went on or not.

Watching the Colorado-Vegas series, we would have lost to either of those teams and even if we didn't, winning the cup in a year where I can't be in the arena and we can't have a big parade to celebrate would cheapen the experience a lot for me. Seeing the games in the States and even the Habs fans allowed to get together outside is really the worst part of all this for me. I want that and instead I can't even go for a walk outside with my parents... anyhow.

Knowing that we probably would lose in the next round, losing now does move us up substantially in the draft. With Arizona forfeiting their pick and now us hoping ahead of the Habs as well we will be drafting 17th instead of 28th so to me that is the silver lining in this.

We just didn't have enough physicality in this series and the one big hit that was thrown resulted in a 4 game suspension. Nobody wanted to go net front and deal with Weber, Edmundson, Chiarot and Petry so all the shots came from the outside.

It really is disappointing that we couldn't manage 1 win just so that Scheif's suspension isn't lingering over us into next season but it is what it is. Hopefully our first game is at home so I can show up with my Parros Habs jersey and blow up some pictures of him golfing with Price.

Anyhow, now we get to think about the expansion draft and what our protected list will look like.

Who... the... hell... is... that... player?

Maybe Dubois is already fed up with Maurice player usage. Not the first time it has happened due to him playing favorites with Wheeler and Schief.

In my opinion, once Schief was suspended, Dubois's line should have been the #1 line instead of breaking the top three lines to keep Wheeler's line the #1 line.

Edit. Yes Stasny did not play games 1 and 2. My point is substitute missing players rather than break every line up

Doubt it. He was given every possibly opportunity to succeed. In fact, I don't recall another player being catered to the way Dubois was. He played in virtually every possible player combination to find a fit. He played almost exclusively on the top two lines with the Jets' best offensive players.

I have to think that he was playing injured. I would almost put money on it. The way he played, he really should not have been dressed. A healthy Harkens would have been better in the post season.

Let's face it the only line that did anything was Lowry's line. Wheeler and Connor had some good moments, but defending is always the issue. Putting Dubois on that line was a powder keg, that got us blown out. I'm just glad Nate Thompson got 4 games, and stunk. We needed more speed, and Maurice just played his vets till the end. Once again you see the difference of 4 line hockey having more pace than 3 line hockey come playoff time. Maybe one day Maurice will get it.
