Whiteout Is Coming.

I wonder if Niku would have been a better option than Benn.
The weird thing is Maurice likes his big defencmen so they can clear the front of the net but there was always traffic in front of Hellebuyck with the Habs getting those second and third rebounds chances or screening him. Just maybe having more defencemen who can carry out the puck more would have helped but stubborn Maurice refused to try anything different.
Seriously trying the same thing over and over will result in the same outcome and that's why in the playoffs under Maurice the Jets have lost 4 straight playoff games THREE different times ...DUH.
How does this guy still have a HC job with the same team for 8 years ... he missed the playoffs 4 years , lost in the 1st round twice and was swept twice. Last year I did not count as making the playoffs ... it was a gift from the NHL.
I don't have a problem with losing only one team can win the Stanley Cup BUT the compete level was just not there (Habs Series) and that falls on the coaching staff.
The first 5 mins in the game yesterday the Jets dump the puck in ... Carey stops it and passes it to his defenceman and he makes one pass to a forward and the puck is in the Jets zone ... it happened at least 7 times. Seriously how ****en stupid are you to keep doing the same thing over and over ... great coaching right?

Well Maurice is getting criticized because he did not shake the hands of the players at the end of the series. The only other coach who did that in the history of the NHL was Tortorella. So he's now part of a select club

Montreal used a combination of horribly boring hockey and even more horrible injury/suspension luck to both the Leafs and the Jets to slink into the conference finals. I said that the Avs would win in five. That's one game longer than what I was going to say, but I thought I'd be generous.

Other than Price, Montreal is the definition of a middle-of-the-pack hockey team that got extremely lucky and had a coaching staff smart enough to play the cards they were dealt perfectly. I can't see their luck continuing against the Avs.

maybe all these teams think the same way, and that’s why they are struggling. Everyone says no star power in montreal, well I’d argue suzuki is literally a star in the making, toffoli is no doubt a star this year, caufield is rising very fast, let’s not forget gallagher is a 30 goal scorer. Then you add in the likes of kotkaniemi, Anderson, Armia, Perry, staal can all play hockey, and an elite shut down Center in Danault. The top 4 d are solid at shutting opponents down and making life miserable. Then obviously add in carey price. I just don’t think they are as bad as everyone says. They just are not built for the regular season.

I don’t think Jets fans should be that hard on their team. Scheifele out, number 2 and 3 centre’s banged up as well. I think this series still goes Montreal’s way but who knows if your top three centres are there and healthy. Anyways winnipeg made it to round 2, I’d say a lot of people didn’t think they would make playoffs at the start of the year.

Worst NHL playoff performance in history according to advanced stats.
But when you give it the eye test and look a bit more closely........still worst playoff performance in NHL history.
Wow, I knew it was bad but that is epic, how can anyone justify the status quo?

Montreal is an average team with maybe one forward with decent hands and a couple of decent defenseman. They live or die depending on how Price does. The Jets played waaaay below average and deserve more credit for the Montreal sweep than the Habs do.

Hell, they were a disorganized mess, BEFORE the 55 hit. Then it even got worse, as the series went along. Looks bad on Maurice.

So, a team sweeps a higher seed in 4 straight, then are losing by one goal in their very next game and you characterize the team as "a disorganized mess"? Interesting.

Yup, starting the series by giving away almost more quality chances, in that game, and turnovers, against the Habs 1-2-2, than the entire Oiler series.

This team is broken.

We've seen this before. '18 against VGK, '19 against StL. I could say last year against Flames but that was different. Or was it? We lost Scheif 2 minutes in and didn't have a 2C to promote. This year, we had 2 other top 6 C's, so that is no excuse.

There has been quite a lot of player turnover since '18. What is the common element(s)?

Edit: Only 1 team makes it through the PO without losing a series. Losing a series is not the problem. Why do we always end up with an embarrassing loss?

Exactly. Even getting swept in a series is one thing. But in that fashion, quite another. Kind of like the difference between disappointment.....and embarrassment.

I don't have a social media account. Someone needs to call out the Jets for this series if we want any meaningful change in the off season.

I need to go for a walk. Pathetic series by the Jets.

Yes. And I think we need to remember that Scheif got suspended making a desperation play in a game that was already lost.

This team is lost, needs a big shakeup and some new bodies.

Sure as hell needs something.

I'd start with the HC. A lot easier to replace 1 coach, or 5, than 23 players.
Maybe a new leadership voice wearing the C. Not a direct criticism of Wheeler but he hasn't captained the team to much PO success.

Covid protocol perhaps given the situation in MB at the moment? Just spitballing as thats totally out of character for him

Did you watch that 1st game vs Mtl? It was a disorganized mess and then some so I think the posters point stands

Well, only a limited number of fans, but imagine that; amazing what you can accomplish when your province isn't held hostage by two small towns who I am not going to talk about because I'll be damned if I get infracted for politics on this night.

Not to go too far with this, but most new cases are still coming from Wpg. Or is Wpg one of the small towns you are not naming?

Look past the name....

You got two main issues. Defence and coaching ( maybe).

Your defense isn't capable of clearing anyone who isn't afraid of getting into the dirty areas. You would of done OK against the Leaf forwards, obviously very well against the Oilers, BUT obviously not against a team with several players that don't mind a bit of blood on their shirts. If you look, at Gally or Perry face at post interviews, they look like they came out of a bar fight.

Your coaching didn't adjust against a team that played the exact same style in four games. You don't have the commitment to team defense that you should but I don't know if that's because of coaching or players. If it's players, then it's up to the GM to change them. If it's coaching style, then that's a failure on the GM for not recognizing what it takes to win in the playoffs.

Just my opinion....
