You push on everyone that Sean's character is so valuable that the habs aren't selling him for anything short of an overpay, but you're also saying a 1st rounder (even if it's a low 1st) isn't worth much?

Trying to sell Monahan is fine, but come on.
Montreal may have to trade Monahan for a first. But they try and sign him for now. Which maybe hard to do. His agent will know Monahan could get overpayment this summer. From a rebuilding team similar to Montreal. Wouldn't surprise me if it's Ottawa. Their owner studied under Hughes/Gorton team. He's going to know you need combine of youth + character veterans. Or he will try and sign him. I have very little doubt.

I'm hoping for first round value, but getting back the Habs 2nd isn't far behind. Habs 2nd and a conditional 3d rounder if he plays enough games?
Far too much for a guy with eight points at 5v5 this year. He isn't an improvement over what we have in the top 9.

That said, Hughes managed to sell a proven AHL-level Chiarot for a first and then some. You'll just never know about what stupid shit GMs can pull off in March.

Aside from the top line. He's 2nd in 5on5 points for the habs forwards. He does not have support at all.

i completely understand why other team fans wouldnt want to give a 1st for him. But i wouldnt trade him for less. Hes giving us 2nd scoring with Evans and Gallagher (lol) on a team completely missing what was the expect 2nd line. He's 57% on the dot and he is useful on the PP. He would double the 5on5 production on any team that need a centre to support adequate 2nd lines wingers imo.

Well, if you're going to call a top 4D on a Cup finalist an AHLer, I don't think I'll bother arguing about Monahan's value...

I don't think Monahan is a significative improvement for the Jets to pay the price tag.

I've seen many saying they (Jets) should aim higher, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of options available at center this year from what Insiders are reporting...

Both teams should aim higher. Jets should get a better player and if Habs can't do better than 2nd round value I'd rather just resign him. Lots of evaluation by stat watching on a guy who plays with complete offensive black holes, he's been nothing but a positive surprise since coming to Montreal

He was, is, and will be a terrible defenseman that doesn't belong in the NHL. The Habs were f***ing lucky to not only get away with having such an awful player in their lineup, but also to have another team miss the obvious truth and pay them significantly for him. A fluke run doesn't change that.

Source: I'm a Jets fan, and I've seen far too much of what it is like when Chiarot is not carried by a true #1D in Byfuglien. He isn't a NHL level player. As for Monahan, at least he belongs in the league - no question about that.

Monahan to the Jets?

I’d guess that the Habs would get their second back and a “B” type prospect. Maybe Zach Nehring? I think that’s probably fair value for both sides. Habs could use a big physical winger prospect with a decent scoring touch.

I'd be seriously interested in Brad Lambert. Former 30th overall.

Monahan (50% retained) + Harris/Engstrom/Norlinder + 2024 Avs 2nd
Interesting thought.
On the one hand, we've seen Hughes go for prospects with some development in them/young players (Dach, Newhook, Barron), so it makes sense in a way, but OTOH I'm unaware of rental deals being made with the rental being added to so as to get a more highly rated kid than the rental warrants.

It provides insurance for the Jet's if Monahan walks or they decide not to resign him.

We have a glut of defencemen and something has to give here soon for us. The 2nd is a throw in.

Lambert has boosted his value IMO and probably has climbed in terms of any 2022 re-drafts.

Jets have lots of young forward depth with McGroarty, Lucius, Lambert and of course Perfetti who is still young.

Since 2016, Chiarot has been part of only three defensive pairings that achieved a positive xG share over 150+ minutes of ice time in a season. The partners were prime Byfuglien in Winnipeg, and Petry and Weber at their respective Montreal peaks. Literally every other combination has been caved in, and it has become a whole lot worse in Detroit.

The guy cannot do a single f***ing thing with the puck, and if someone else isn't doing it for him, he is just brutally exposed on the ice. You just go and ask the Jets' board what happens next when Chiarot gets the puck: the answer is an unanimous "icing". We know.

You got your picks and prospects. You don't need to be any more wrong about Chiarot.

Monahan is only an upgrade on Namestnikov on faceoffs, why are we paying assets for a 3C to replace a guy who shouldn't be playing 2C anyways? Aim higher.
Since Winipeg plays well (thanks to Los Angeles), some fans of this team overestimate Their player like outch……

A big part of them playing well is Namestnikov on a sheltered second line. He's much better defensively than Monahan and has the same amount of points.

He probably shouldn't be the 2C on a playoff team, but Monahan isn't the answer either.

It's hard to say, there doesn't appear to be a 2C available, so we'll see if Chevy can find someone who no one knows is available.

I have my doubts on 2C out there. Sure you have Lindholm, Wennberg, and Monahan who are end year UFAs

Toninado and Stanley have no value to Montreal.

Seems very unlikely Monahan gets traded for anything less than a 1st+ given his strong play, his public desire to be in Montreal and Mtl's injury depleted roster.

1st, Kupari, Barron might get Hughes to listen, if that seems to much then the Jets are probably shopping elsewhere
And Monahan has no value to Winnipeg…guess we’re done here

We have Montreal's 2nd but I thought we traded our 2nd for Nino?
We did
