Prospect Info: Sean Farrell, C/LW, 124th Overall

That's not something we really need to address through top 6 or top 9 talent though. I'm sure they'll be looking to add at least 1 more tough guy through free agency(likely a 4th line guy) by the time that Edmundson's gone.
Ummm Yeah it is you need someone who can play on those lines and dissuade the opposition from even trying to run your guys. When Tom Wilson is healthy he plays on a first line there is absolutely a valid reason for that. The idea is to prevent not to engage. Those types of players are hard to find.

That would allow Farrell to pkay inbthe AHL playoffs.

But could he be called up to the Habs if there isn't an injury emergency?

He won't be able to be called up at all if he's on an AHL deal to finish the year in Laval.

So 1 down and 4 to go.

Farrell out.

Dobes, Pitlick, Hutson & Tuch still left.

You're not going to find many tough guys in the league with Tom Wilsons skill. Unless if Slaf develops his offensive game and develops a bit of a mean streak along side it we're not likely to have that kind of player. But neither do most teams in the league.

True and that is my point Slaf doesn't have a mean bone in his body. Tom Wilson is a bit over the top but there are certainly aggressive players with talent
who can play hockey and fill that role. That is what our scouting staff is supposed to address. There is no doubt in my mind our Brass are well aware of the liberties (cheap shots) that have been taken against a number of our players this season and the lack of meaningful pushback.

Which of our prospects do you like?

Let the Farrell watch begin.

I wonder if he'll be in uniform Monday or Tuesday. Given we have 3 game in 4 nights and so we won't be practicing much, he may. Ot play in these 3 games, and only debut at the end if the week.
I like them all, I can appreciate Farrell's high end vision and playmaking, but I cant overlook the flaws either. They all have strengths and weaknesses, but some prospects are more projectable than others. Farrell's shot isnt much of a treath, lacks physical strength and is an average skater. Will need time in Laval, but Im not writting him off, just trying to set things down a bit. Someone even said he was so good that he would come in and ruin the tank, god...

Arber is not out there very often when our top talent is and that is the point. We all know he fought 10 times in 50 some odd games but most of it was from being challenged not reciprication for a cheap shot. Anderson doesn't fill the role either. Last season Suzuki had to step in when Caufield was getting roughed up while Anderson just stood there. It's all well and nice to have a goon on a fourth line but you are usually going to have to bump him to protect the crown jewels. That doesn't prevent anything but it does encourage more violence.

I love Dach, but man he might ruin the damn tank...

I think at this point thats likely 5-6th OV, I dont think we can do worse enough to get in the top 4 and I dont think we can do good enough to catch up the other teams. Fingers crossed for the Bedard lottery.

If we finish 5th last chances are much higher we draft 6th or 7th. And we could easily catch Philly and Arizona. Thankfully Vancouver seems to be pulling away.

That reminds me when Serge Savard traded Keith Acton and Mark Napier for Bobby Smith. Almost the steal trade of the '80's. Acton was a very fast skater, had some hands and hockey IQ. Napier was a good overall center with skills, speed and hockey IQ. But also small. Like Acton.
Bobby Smith was skilled with great size and leadership. Smith was worth much more than Acton and Napier together. Smith changed the Habs Team for better the day he played his first game. Won a SC in 86 and SC finals lost to Calgary in 89.
Napier was a left-shooting right winger.

FWIW,
Pierre McGuire scouting report on Farrell:

- Electrifying speed and exceptional creativity
- good 2 way player, can kill penalties
- Weakness: not good at board play

Who ends up better if we take Caufield out of the mix cause we know who he is at the NHL level now. I kept Harris in the mix. Difficult question to answer and their performance when they turn pro will reveal the truth.

I doubt all 5 of the guys below are on our roster in 3-5 years when we might be contenders.

Harris
Hutson
Farrell
RHP
Kidney
Hutson

That is proper team building. If it takes two decent players to fill a gaping hole you do it. But that is an end game move and we are nowhere near that yet.

Aside from Xhekaj where is the SOB forward who can stand up and fight for the talent. Teams will be going after Caufield and Farrell and even Dach. We saw them targeting Kaiden Ghule on more than one occasion. There is a certain mentality that has to come with the size and only Arber possesses it. There is still a gaping hole in that roster.

100% agreed. At least try to replace Pitlick with someone like Mathieu Olivier on the 4th line.

It's a team concept Suzuki was right to jump in. Closest guy goes in.

The Anderson has become Rene Bourque narrative is incorrect.

Sorry to take the thread OT
