Prospect Info: Sean Farrell, C/LW, 124th Overall

Not at all similar.
Evans best season was 46 pts in 40 pts in his d+4.
Farrell has 52 pts in 33 games in his d+3, which would be a pace of 63 pts in 40 games.
That is University level. How that translate into NHL level?

I also want to add bigger players tends to take more time to developp. Their big body at 17 yrs old is not quite agile and well balanced when players of 5'7" are better balanced and agile.

I had stats of Farrell and Evans on my computer, one each another side by side and it looked like it was very similar stats when I don't look at the NHL stats.

in 158 games in the NCAA Evans has 138 points, in 57 games in the NCAA Farrell has 80 points. How the f*** does that compare as very similar stats? One player showed good progress each year and turned into a solid player in the NCAA, the other had a really good year and followed it up by being 2nd or so best forward in the league.

Farrell is 2nd in the NCAA in ppg, Evans Senior year he topped out at a 1.15 ppg, up from his Junior year of 1.05 ppg,

Who ends up better if we take Caufield out of the mix cause we know who he is at the NHL level now. I kept Harris in the mix. Difficult question to answer and their performance when they turn pro will reveal the truth.

I doubt all 5 of the guys below are on our roster in 3-5 years when we might be contenders.

Harris
Hutson
Farrell
RHP
Kidney
Are you sure we don't have more of small players coming up?

Recently the NCAA is producing more NHLers than the Q for example. It wouldn't surprise me if it passes the WHL in the future as the NTDP is the best program in hockey at the moment.

I personally do understand where you are coming from but your underselling Farrell to some degree.

However, you are going to get ganged up on now. This part is not something I like on HF boards. People want to laugh at others vs just having a conversation. Our fan herd has lots of coyotes bud... they will sense fear and pounce! haha

Not ones worth mentioning. Who do you think I'm forgetting?

Farrell playing at 2pm. I hope he does well, but unfortunately his team loses.

I can't wait to see him up with the big club. I know it's selfish. Promising prospect.

Yeah, I get some laught emoti ... and some discussion.
But at least I got a realistic preview of small players in the future team. If it wasn't of me, that list wouldn't be visible and knowned.

Maybe forgot Mesar. And maybe a high pick of 2023, I don't know yet.

Harris
Hutson
Farrell
RHP
Kidney

Hutson is on a whole other tier for me. I'd go:

Tier1: Hutson
Tier2: Farrell
Tier3: Harris, Kidney
Tier 4: RHP

The added advantage in scouting Farrell is the ability to see how he performed at the Olympics and WC last year. Farrell is not a sure shot hit but he's got an edge over Evans at the same age path
I agree with this but my question is : translate into nhl level. And not all the players improve/developp equally after age 17.

I have RHP at least on the same tier as Harris and Kidney, if not higher.

It's way too small of a sample size from RHP. But I really like his overall game. The forecheck, the play along the wall, the willingness to go to the front of the net. He's caused a lot of goals by screening the goalie that don't show up on the stat sheet. And he's a good passer and seems to have a nose for the net and some finish.

Yeah I love the way he plays and was happy we drafted him. He's the exact kind of Q flyer we should be taking IMO. Only thing is, usually forwards peak in their mid 20's so he's almost already out of runway to take any sort of jump to make him a top 6 player IMO. Harris is older too but defenseman take longer to develop and Kidney is still in junior so that's why I separated them.

I know people are worried about Farrell's size but imagine him producing well in NHL. Size is great and all but having actual NHL talent trumps all. Worst case you trade them for something to make your roster better.

If Sean Farrell comes into the league and starts putting on a show to end season, he becomes a pretty damn tempting trade chip going into off season. He'd have shown success literally everywhere.

This is true. All we know today is Farrell is on a very good development path. But I've learned the hard way over the years and you usually only know when they turn pro.

I love what I see with Farrell and Hutson but I'm going to play the humble card for sure.

RHP is also 24

He's going to need elite level skating as a undersized player. If his skating is average (NHL level), he will get smothered in time/space and he won't be able to turn the needle in other areas of the game beyond points.

RHP is a good one to look at. Yeah, he's small but man, the kid is not afraid of contact and his skating/IQ is very good. He's very good at closing gaps and causing turnovers. He's older and more developed yes but it's the work ethic and energy he puts into it that matters the most.

NHL talent is very nice but points come and go for players like Farrell. He's not Caufield. So when the points come and go, what can you do in other areas? Anyways, I believe in his potential just like most fans. I'm just being humble with expectations and playing the pumping game prior to him turning Pro. Very excited to see what he can do when we sign him after his NCAA season ends.

I think we can spread Caufield, RHP, and Farrell out, one on each line, 5 on 5 in the top 9.

Only once/if other players like Mesar or a Mishkov start showing they're also ready for a top 9 spot will we have to start worrying about too many small guys and need to trade someone.

So, I wish we had taken Jordan Dumais in the 3rd round...

That reminds me when Serge Savard traded Keith Acton and Mark Napier for Bobby Smith. Almost the steal trade of the '80's. Acton was a very fast skater, had some hands and hockey IQ. Napier was a good overall center with skills, speed and hockey IQ. But also small. Like Acton.
Bobby Smith was skilled with great size and leadership. Smith was worth much more than Acton and Napier together. Smith changed the Habs Team for better the day he played his first game. Won a SC in 86 and SC finals lost to Calgary in 89.

So we pack a lot of two small players hoping we'll get a good one who is bigger in a trade. And this is a wish ending or it happens all the time in nhl trades?

Small players that can play have a place. You can't have 3 smallish players on the same team imo. So many large, skilled players that can skate are in this league.

Say you think you can win with 3 small players maximum. But you have 4 of them that are good. Then you can trade 1 for another type of player.

Ultimately, having too many good players at a position is a good problem to have. We already have too many LD's, but we still drafted Lane Hutson. Even if we can't move Harris or Struble for a good asset when Hutson is ready, it's still better to have Hutson than to have drafted an area of need instead of Hutson and have Harris and a medicore player that was drafted instead of Hutson.

Once we get top talent, we can worry about what to do with the less talented surplus at a position.

Welcome home Sean
4-0 Ohio State.

Looks like Farrell will be in Laval or Montreal soon.

Ohio state has that good of a hockey team? I am surprised
Nope, decent, but Dobes is hands down their best player, Michigan, Minnesota especially are much better.

Like Caufield was too small and a B prospect when RDS showed one of his game and was his worst of the year.
I was watching basically all their games so it was easy for me to call it an off night.
