There’s a goalie in my men’s league that’s known that you can throw him off his game fairly easily. Buzz the crease a bit, score a couple goals on him, chirp him a bit, etc. Once he “goes Hextall” (that’s the actual term we use) we know we have him and he’ll start yelling at us, his teammates and himself and letting in almost any shot.
That’s my concern with goalies that are overly emotional, especially when the emotions are negative. I like that Binny has some swagger but I agree with Brian that his tough act sometimes likely comes off as insecurity that teams can exploit to throw him off his game.
I liked the article done on Binny in training camp where he talked about how he was fueled by anger, resentment and proving people wrong. But now it sounds like he’s going to try to use more positive emotions. I was glad to hear that. I’ve played one whopping hour of goalie in my life (side note: when your goalie friend says, “hey, let’s swap equipment for practice today. It’ll be fun!” don’t listen to him!) but I’d have to think that fueling off of positive emotions would be more sustainable than off of negative emotions.
Binny has looked good so far so glad to see it.
That Crawford play still irritates me. Crawford went after Fabbri for no particular reason, punched him with his blocker, and Fabbri got a sympathy Goalie Interference that was totally undeserved. But at the time he was just a little rookie tangling with a revered goalie in the league. Crawford got the benefit of reputation there, even if it was in the wrong. The self-confidence came first. His overall demeanor and confidence was initially polarizing. He was hated by people well before his two incidents with Dubnyk and Kadri, a player who has deliberately injured multiple people.
Do you instead believe he was viewed neutrally by league fans until the Dubnyk/Sharks incident justifiably generated the league-wide hatred? I do not. I believe he was hated before this moment.
Binnington gets away with 0.0, is what I see. Nothing. Overreacting to Benn's antagonism was his first penalty in the NHL, as the announcers note. He did not get away with even one penalty with you.
Again, he has not actually done any physical damage. He didn't injure some team's player and knock them out of the lineup. He got into antagonism with antagonism and I said he has grated on people. True. I don't think he should swing his stick at anyone. But he hasn't gotten away with a single thing. All three of his incidents are at your fingertips.
Remember Corey Crawford? He is a 6'2" jumping little Robby Fabbri. There is no league-wide reviling of Crawford. There isn't even remembering of it. We can obviously think of many more examples. If I read your argument correctly, then him not jumping Kadri is the real issue.
So, as far as forcing our skaters to answer the bell for him, is that true? Which Blue got beat up by a Dallas Star for the incident with Benn & Bishop? Which Blue got beat up by a Shark? Which Blue got beat up by an Avs player after the Kadri incident? It sounds like a persuasive argument but I'd like to see the evidence behind it.

Have you actually read the article I referenced? You're looking at this wrong. Binny doing what he does has nothing to do with negative emotions and everything to do with rallying the team or dragging the team into a fight. The negative emotion you speak of is what would happen to Jake Allen when he would give up a bad goal, unable to get past it and he dwells on it and then he lets in the next 5. Binny handles that just fine, just look at some of the games in the cup finals that were blowouts, he didn't lose it at all and that shows that he's under control when he supposedly does.
Happy for Pitlick, bad for Buch though.Buch to IR, Pitlick signed
It begins
Sending Leivo to Springfield (he's already cleared waivers) and activating Buch tomorrow would be a nice surprise.Happy for Pitlick, bad for Buch though.
But I’ll note that IR is retroactive and he’s already been out over a week so they could activate Buch at anytime. Hopefully soon we’ll find out more about Buch’s injury and timeline.
Yup, that was simply to open a roster spot to include both Pitlick and Leivo on the 23 man roster. Buch will obviously be back in the lineup when he's ready and then we can either send Leivo down without waivers (for the next couple weeks at least) or try to get Pitlick through waivers. I'd guess that Pitlick would clear since any team could have signed him to this contract at any point until today.Happy for Pitlick, bad for Buch though.

Saad maybe back Monday.
Weird that he just suddenly went on IR although I didn’t see the end of the Philly game. Did anyone notice him get injured?Bortuzzo injured
I wasn’t paying as much attention by the end, but they commented at one point that he had gotten hurt and wasn’t on bench. I don’t recall seeing injury.Weird that he just suddenly went on IR although I didn’t see the end of the Philly game. Did anyone notice him get injured?
That said, I think his time here is close to an end. Appreciate everything Bortz has brought to the team but at his age and the style of game he plays, his body has to be too beaten up to contribute much more for us.
