i'd prefer they look for 3rhd. miko can handle left side if he is with someone that can move puck. borts i prefer as 7thd at this point in his career.

I mentioned Sean Walker in the trade thread. They have Doughty, Roy, Durzi, and then Clarke/Grans looking for NHL time on the right side. I think he’s a legitimate candidate to get moved, whether it’s to us, or AZ in a Chychrun deal.

feels like he is making too much for what his role would be here. we could handle it this year with scandella on ltir, but next year is going to be super tough to keep ROR and others and don't feel like paying 2.6mm to 3rd pairing rhd is going to be best use of cap.

Do we even have the cap to bring someone in? Scandella can’t hit LTIR until day 1 of the season right?
I am no expert on the cap by any means.

Cap Friendly shows us $125K over the cap. This is with us putting Kostin and Rosen on waivers and carrying 22 non-waiver exempt players. They updated the numbers to factor in the bonus overage from last year ($1.1M).

They’ve always been factoring in Bozak’s 1.1M bonus overage. The reason cap friendly went from a $625k surplus to a $125k deficit is they moved Perunovich to IR.

To maximize the amount they’ll be able to exceed the Cap, they’ll almost certainly have Scandella on the roster and not on LTIR to start the season. They’ll want to have a roster that’s as close to the $82.5M Cap as possible. They can then adjust the next day.

The fancy term for this is Accruable Cap Space Limit (ACSL).

Because of this, I fully expect the initial roster to leave some fans puzzled and/or mad…but then things will be “corrected” the next day.

For example, if they’re going to sign Pitlick, I’d expect them to do that the day after initial roster submission - same thing they did with Hoffman a couple years ago.

Agreed. There's going to be the "official" opening night roster, and then the actual opening night roster.

This tweet is almost 24 hours old now but I just noticed it.

And then there was this from 4 days ago:

Sounds like a shoulder injury they now want team docs to look at then they get back from Charleston. Doesn’t sound great but hopefully it’s not anything too serious.

But Brown’s injury seems to be a little under the radar and not really being talked about.

Am I the only one worried about lack of news on brown? Feels like next we hear he is gonna be out months
Yeah, it's probably a more long-term thing than short-term. I'm not really worried about it because he wouldn't be in the lineup for me when everyone is healthy.

It’s a shame because it looked like he legitimately forced his way on the roster, and I wanted to see where he fit on a healthy lineup. He will have a tall task to get his momentum back and reclaim wherever he was going to project. More likely he’ll need an injury in the lineup now to give him that chance.

Pretty sure Berube still said recently that he doesn’t think it’s long-term.

The original injury didn’t stop him from skating because Jim Thomas said one practice in Charleston, he left early so I guess he tweaked something or had a set back.

Even if he is out a couple weeks we should be fine, given our depth. Hopefully it’s not more than that though.

It sounded like he had a setback in Charleston while practicing. Someone posted to that affect if I am remembering correctly.

EDIT: Ah yes. The Berube quote is only a few posts up.

Here’s my understanding on the Brown injury timeline - he originally injured his shoulder (pretty sure it’s the left one) against Dallas on 10/1. Then around 10/6 he must’ve had a setback at practice (Berube quote on them having a physical practice and Brown taking a step back with his injury). Then on 10/11, while in Charleston, he tried to practice again but quickly left the ice and Berube said they’d need to get him checked out when they got back to STL.

I would assume that assessment has now been completed but no idea of the results. Could be bad, could be not bad. They haven’t said yet.

agree, it's VERY odd no one has addressed this or being asked about this, from what I can see

Looks like exactly what I said. He may just sit for a bit but doesn’t sound like it needs surgery or anything major.

If everything with Brown was a-ok, would they be taking a 2nd look at Pitlick?

I try to not read too much into things but it’d really only make sense to consider Pitlick again if there was a possible roster spot for him. Someone going to IR would do it…
