What's the reason Cotter didn't get any run for Vegas in playoffs either season. Possibly didn't have trust of Cassidy?
Well for one they did soup up their roster and and have like a $95 million cap so guys coming off of IR and arriving at the deadline played

Schmid and Holtz for a guy who can’t play on a beefed up roster sounds like poor asset management.

This is one of the worst Devils trades I've witnessed. Trading assets away when their value is low is incompetent GMing

I'm pretty done with Fitz to be honest. Trading Marino for just picks was pretty disappointing, but to use those picks to a long shot goalie while giving away a much more established goalie prospect is just insanely stupid. I think he overpaid for Markström too. I don't hate the Silayev pick, but considering he's at least 3 years away when we should be competing now, you have to wonder if someone like Buium or Brandsegg-Nygård would have been more immidiate help. Or trading the pick all together. I really haven't loved anything he's done in the past year other than maybe the Keefe hire. If the Devils don't make the playoffs this year he needs to be fired. f***ing reckless asset management, why draft Holtz if you don't have the patience to develop him.

I bet our new coach wants a tougher team to play against too.

Holtz heads for Harrahs Casino!

Because he was supposed to be shotgun to a pass-first, playmaking Jack Hughes? Hughes flipping the switch with his shot is something no one could've seen coming as much as it has. Holtz is practically pointless with Jack now with how he shoots, same thing with the second line with getting Meier. Where is he going to shoot multiple times a game or be set up to use his shot? These things happen, now if you wanna argue the Devils basically butchered Holtz to the point of no return then yeah I would agree with you, they should've traded Holtz when he had value. Also meh, the Markstrom trade was fine. Only way that trade sucks is if they end up in the grey area next year where the pick is 11-16. Buium makes no sense stylistically for this roster and sure, MBN is great but you still have issues on the LD without the Silayev pick

If trading assets when their value is low is incompetent, what do you call "wasting a roster spot and white knuckling a guy who will likely be out of the NHL in two years"? Alex Holtz isn't good. We saw Alex Holtz isn't good with our eyes. We heard "Alex Holtz isn't good" from coach and management in every interview about him since last season if you listened closely enough.

We read "Alex Holtz isn't good" when San Jose wanted no part of him, despite the fact that their top prospect was his best friend. We read "Alex Holtz isn't good" when Calgary didn't want him despite the fact that a right-handed RW is their top organizational need.

We got slapped in the face with the fact that "Alex Holtz isn't good" when 11 "absolutely not NHLers" got selected to the Swedish National Team last year while Alex Holtz stayed home.

This is a poor skating, poor defending, shot-first hockey player who has 19 goals in 110 career games. Everyone needs to take a f***ing breath and stop acting like we traded Dawson Mercer for Cotter.

(Also, they traded Marino for 2 picks -- not one. They used one of those picks on a better prospect than Akira. They still have the other pick as ammo for a trade, if he decides the team needs one.)

Please tell me, if you keep Holtz and Schmid where are they playing this year? You have to play them somewhere, and as much as I believe in Holtz's talent, I don't want him playing ineffectively on the 4th line in NJ.

I also believe in Daws and Poulter more than Schmid, so I don't want them losing out on any playing time in the AHL.

They both needed to go, and this was apparently the best value they could get. It is what it is.

I am also happy for Holtz and Akira that they get a better chance to hopefully play more in Vegas and Fitz is giving them that chance. It was obvious Holtz didnt want to be here anymore too

Glad to see people finally becoming concerned with Fitz. Better late than never I guess.

I like Cotter, but the value here makes little sense. Just like the Palat contract. Just like the Allen trade. Just like the Crawford contract. Just like the Markstrom trade. These 4 moves were way worse than this trade btw.

Devs have to go hard in UFA with multiple horrid contracts now without a 2025 1st. Just dandy. Can't wait to see what this place looks like if they have trouble making the playoffs again AND can't lean on the high 1st round pick crutch. They need to add 1-2 dmen, a 3C that can play up the lineup if needed, and a middle 6 winger (more towards 2nd liner). Gonna be interesting.

Thank you for letting us know you're above everyone else since you were concerned with Fitz longer. Great to know!

Just because Jack is now also a shot treat doesn't mean he's not a worldclass playmaker anymore. They didn't really give Hughes-Holtz much of a chance anyway, they looked great pre season with Palat. Holtz also doesn't have to become a a first line goal scorer he could have developed into a thirdline 50pts winger and that would have been better than giving him away for nothing. When someone has no value you rather gamble if he can figure things out and raise his value instead of selling him without value.

And like I said I like Silayev, but how does he fix our LD the next 3 years now that we should be competing?

who will likely be out of the NHL in two years"? Alex Holtz isn't good. Blaablaablaa

There are way way worse players playing in the NHL. Holtz has improved every year and scored 16 goals with very little icetime after basically sitting out the whole previous season. I think the odds say it's more likely he scores 20 goals next year than not. Just because you hate him doesn't make your opinion right.

I know Holtz had virtually no value, but I would have thought we would have been able to move him for another "change of scenery" guy.

Really? I can’t wait to watch the hockey team that I root for and hope they have a good year. Different strokes. Enjoy your summer!

It'll look like your f***ing dream and you'll post 20 times a day about how right you were. They are not likely to add all of those things.

The Crawford contract, still talking about that, lol, even Corey Crawford stopped thinking about that.

Schmid plays in the A as he is waiver exempt. Holtz plays with Jack and Bratt, or whatever line or being healthy scratched the entire season. Even that makes more sense than giving out recent 7th overall 22 year old with 16 goals with limited icetime away for free.
