No one is saying Scheif is better. We still wouldn't trade him for Toews because, Scheifele fits our teams development curve to a tee. We hope to be competitive the next couple years, and a lot of our fans see us having a legit shot beginning 3-4 years from now. Scheif is just now showing us what he can do.

And Toews will be 32 then- probably finishing the twilight of his "prime" years. Toews has a lot more miles on him today because of how good the Hawks have been.

Conversely, at the same time, Scheif will be turning 28- the same age Toews is now.. And we would rather have that period which matches our teams timeline perfectly. Also we will paying Mark half of the salary. Would we be able to hang onto all the guys we'd like to if we're paying Toews over 10 Mil a season all that time? Not likely.

So don't get your panties in a knot and freak out and stamp your feet. Yes, we know Toews is better. Yes, his resume is impeccable. We know that. But to say "ppl who would too that trade are crazy" doesn't really look at team trajectories or development curves.

If we were a top 10 team, those kind of moves make sense. But we're not. So it doesn't make sense for our franchise. Though we would love to have our hometown boy back someday..

Cool story, except that they were comparable by almost any conceivable metric last season.

Thats the problem with those metrics. You ask any GM or hockey person and they take Toews everyday of the week and twice on Sunday over him

Can the two teams go ahead and make the trade after the deadline, too, making them both ineligible for the playoffs? You know, just to make it that much dumber of a trade? That'd be great.

Discluding McDavid, Eichel Panarin, Kuznetzov, Kucherov, Drouin (including playoffs), Barkov (2 less points, 5 less games, more responsible 2 way player) maybe you are right.

Neither will be PPG players, they will probably both have point totals going up, and toews will still be the far superior player on the entirety of a sheet of ice in every regard except points because he plays the PK too much.

Ah Kuze for sure - Barkov is a close call, maybe Panarin but I was very high on him coming out of Russia..
Other than those players who made a greater leap from where they were rated before the season to where they are now, McDavid? The most hyped player since Crosby... Eichel hyped too. I like Drouin a lot and was hoping Tampa would trade him cuz I thought it'd be a mistake, but again not a higher riser than Scheifele at all. Kucherov had a similar year prior last year.

To end the season he had 15 points in the final 10 games and 34 in the final 26. So again I stick by my statement that no one brought their stock up at the tail end of the season more. McDavid's price was already pretty high at that point, I guess Drouin going from people thinking he's a piece of **** to his playoff performance is pretty close.
Edit: also, "in my mind" made it pretty clear that it was purely opinion.

Easy, quick, and resounding no from this hawks fan.

I'll keep toews, his cap hit, and the fact in toews worst year he was still only 3 points behind scheifele's break out year. While toews was taking 1:40 in PK time while scheifele taking only 24 seconds a game. Toews at 2:45 PP time per game while scheifele had 3:05.

Nevermind the fact Toews has been the best faceoff man in the NHL, has proven he can show up in the playoffs, can put a team on his back in the playoffs, has captained by example through 3 cups, and has had nearly .9 PPG as a defensive minded center playing at very least 50 seconds of PK per game each season since he was in the NHL (that was in 08/09 btw)

The peg can keep their overrated second line center.

Toews can carry a team in the playoffs on his back if he has a great crazy support casts like in 2010 2013 2014 2015. Without that crazy supporting cast but still good like in 2011 2012 2015. He is not able to carry the Hawks and lead them into the second round.

Funny thing is his Toews intangibles only worKs when he Is on a stacked team.

I didn't say anything about Laine. Or are you one of those types that likes to generalize? Like I have to take ownership of anything ever said by anyone from Winnipeg. Lol.

You said Scheif couldn't carry Toews jockstrap, and then when confronted with facts to the contrary you resort to hyperbole. Good talk.

What facts?
That Scheifele's best season ever is equal to Toews worst since his rookie campaign?

The difference between these two is $4.375 million worth of intangibles

And a truckload of hardware including 3 cups. Don't get me wrong, Chef is my favourite Jet, but Towes is a hero in Winnipeg.

Would I swap those players? No... not because Towes is a worse player (he's not) but because his cap hit would crush the Jets salary structure and Scheifele is just a better fit for the future.

Also "don't care, I miss Evander".

I doubt Bowman even picks up the phone.
Pretty sure you have to pick up a phone to hear what is being offered to begin with.

These weird fantasy trade proposals are so weird. Why don't people live out their fantasies in NHL 16 / 17 Be a GM? Closest you'll see any of these trades ever go through...

I wouldn't trade Scheif for Monahan MacKinnon or Draisaitl (not even close for Drai). No chance I would trade him for Toews either.

The rest I agree with.

You wouldnt get Monahan or Mackinnon, so don't even think about it anyway.

Jets fans reaching Leaf level of over rating their roster.

Scheif is a beast that gets better by the year.

He scored at a 70 point pace last season. His defensive game is incredibly underrated. He is a workout demon that practically lives at Gary Roberts gym in the off-season, is a devoted student of the game, and a solid citizen.

Perhaps you conversely are overrating Monahan. Not at all upset that we get to keep Scheifele for the next 8 years.

Disagree. I'd take Scheifele over either of those guys. I've seen plenty of all three and the difference is Scheifele is always noticeable and plays with an edge that neither Monahan or Mac have.

Cool video. Monahan is a year and a half younger, the entered the league the same year, and has out produced him. They are close, but Monahan holds more value.

Scheifele fits right in the age group of Winnipeg's impressive core going forward, and Toews is the guy Chicago won 3 cups with.

Talk about a way to enrage two fanbases at once.

Great. Scheifele just took over the #1C slot late last year, and when he did his line with Wheeler and Ehlers was pretty much unstoppable over the final 25 games of the season. They are a blazing fast unit, teams couldn't keep up with them. Add Patrik Laine onto the Jets powerplay this season, and barring injury Scheifele will probably leave Monahan's production in his wake this year.

Toews is the better player overall and he's a proven cup winner. Problem is he has a contract that could become a nightmare. You wanna win now you take Toews. Don't plan on winning for a few years you take Scheifle. That's a no from both sides.
