Guess Markstrom will be out for a bit longer. Its been 5 weeks since his injury

I think it's only been 4 weeks, hasn't it?

I remember they announced the 4-6 week timeline on either a Thursday or Friday, and I remember counting that 4 weeks would bring us right to the first game back from the break.

But if we're looking at the 6 week timeline it probably takes us the first home game back (Jets) after the long road trip that follows the one home game out of the break.

Correct 4, I miscounted the weeks.

These four callups suggest LTIR is coming, but with the Devils having 3.9M in cap space according to puckpedia, they use up almost all the space but not all of it - this suggests that the Devils must be making a trade or some other move, I think. It's within $40k of the maximum amount of AAV the Devils could add to their cap from the minor leagues.
Normally betting against a trade randomly happening is a good bet but:

-The Devils making roster moves that maximize the amount of cap being used when the rest of the year they’ve very strictly minimized the amount of cap being used. This looks like a way to maximize LTIR…yet they didn’t finish that motion yet, which is weird.

-2 guys called up didn’t even get there to practice today. What event made the Devils surprise these 2 guys with the call up but not the other 2? Weather and starting location are possible.

-League just took a big break and GMs had a lot of spare time to talk.

-League implied that they’d prefer teams not make announcements that could take any spotlight off of the Four Nations.

There have been no “hot” rumors about the Devils getting close to anything but I’d have to say the trade or no trade odds have to feel closer to 50/50 rather than the normal like 2/98.

It won’t shock me if a trade is already agreed upon in principal but won’t be executed officially until Friday morning. What other team also has beat reporters that would never be able to ferret anything out?

Why does Chase Stillman exist in our NJD world? Lol

Palms is slow and streaky, likes the puck on his stick, plays a style incompatible with ours and play seems to stall when he’s involved. We were lucky and happy to unload him 3 or 4 years ago. Please no. The future is not the past.

That's what I remember. He was good for the time, but by the end, a lot of us were complaining about his speed (or lack of) and generally his streakiness that went on heavy.

I can't imagine he will magically be better. I get palat vibes if we bring him here again.

"a procedure" lmao

You know, just little surgery here and a little surgery there....

I think the Stillman and Brennan recalls are strategic with Fitz wanting to have a meeting with them.

Something like if you don't show something in the 2nd half of the season, you're probably getting traded in the offseason.

I know a lot of folks dont like Chase Stillman because he was a 1st rounder and hasnt lived up to the choice at all; but is his game fit for a fourth line role because thatd be an awesome fit if possible (not now, I understand this is likely a paper transaction)

You gotta be putting out better numbers than what he has done in the AHL if you are going to be a 4th line player in the NHL. I'm pretty confident if Lazar , Bastian or Dowling were sent down they would put up much better numbers than what Stillman has done this season. He's an underwhelming pick and was looked upon that at the time he was drafted. I still hope he can be something in the NHL at some point but right now he doesn't look to be one. The call up is not really deserved but it's been said it's more of a paper move anyway.
