He wasn't given away, he was traded. And if you don't get why, I suggest you read the other posts ITT.I just don't get why else they would give him away. We developed the guy for 4-5 years, he was finally putting it together and playing. Why dump?? Strange decision
Wasteful and sillyHe wasn't given away, he was traded. And if you don't get why, I suggest you read the other posts ITT.
What's wasteful and silly, reading what others think?Wasteful and silly
Trading away decent homegrown talent for what amounts to be a second round pick and the expiring contract of a guy they could've had for free 8 months ago in free agencyWhat's wasteful and silly, reading what others think?
Well, that's one way of looking at it.Trading away decent homegrown talent for what amounts to be a second round pick and the expiring contract of a guy they could've had for free 8 months ago in free agency
Yeah its a pretty straight forward way of looking at it. No mental gymnastics required. I hope it works out, but odds are it does not.Well, that's one way of looking at it.![]()
Sandin is a future PP quarterback but I doubt he will ever be a top pairing guy.Yeah its a pretty straight forward way of looking at it. No mental gymnastics required. I hope it works out, but odds are it does not.
Seems like a pretty fair trade to me and as others have said, Sandin has too many guys in his way to get a true shot here.Yeah its a pretty straight forward way of looking at it. No mental gymnastics required. I hope it works out, but odds are it does not.
Because his position was blocked for the rest of his RFA contract.I just don't get why else they would give him away. We developed the guy for 4-5 years, he was finally putting it together and playing. Why dump?? Strange decision
I get it but Gio is pushing 40 and really doesn't have much gas left. McCabe's ability to perform here is yet to be seen. Gustafsson is a rental and will be gone after this season. The late 1st is nice but not that valuable. It's a very soft deal unless they had plans to flip the assets, which with Erik playing tonight it would appear that they do not.Because his position was blocked for the rest of his RFA contract.
Rielly, McCabe, and Gio are all signed through the end of next season. And they needed someone to fill in for the Muzzin role, and none of Rielly, Gio , or Sandin were a good fit for that role.
They shed cap, got a similar player and a 1st round pick.
Sandin's smaller size and his skating were exposed when under a heavy forecheck. He would lose battles.
And his path to regular playing time was completely blocked, which would kill his value.
On a PP2 possibly. He wont be a PP1 on a playoff team.Sandin is a future PP quarterback but I doubt he will ever be a top pairing guy.

The first is possible trade bait.We are all in. Lose first round and nothing matters. They weren't going to re sign him . So get something. Business move.
Sounds a lot like the Giordano trade last year.Trading away decent homegrown talent for what amounts to be a second round pick and the expiring contract of a guy they could've had for free 8 months ago in free agency
Muzzin was a 29-year old top-pairing defenseman with term, and we got 4 years out of him before he experienced a random spinal injury.I believe Dermott was Dubas' first ever pick when he acted as interim co-GM for the 2015 draft. Sandin and Durzi were his first two picks as GM. All three were traded for older declining vets on the tail end of their contract. Only Muzzin had a year left on his deal, the other two were free agents.
So much for not trading picks and prospects for past their prime declining rentals.
You do realize they got a first round pick in return, right?Sounds a lot like the Giordano trade last year.
Basically amounted to Dermott and 2x2nd for Giordano.

Holy crap, I have never seen more outright lies in every post. Like even if there was a real point to be made, the fact that it can only be supported by lies makes it so cringeworthy, and an easy block. You do realize they got a first round pick in return, right?
To replace one of the ones he traded yes.You do realize they got a first round pick in return, right?
Oh, so you just refused to mention the main return in the trade on purpose? To replace one of the ones he traded yes.
Your description of our returns is misleading, and trading some picks and prospects for effective NHL players is exactly what teams in our position do.My point was that they are trading young prospect players and picks for declining and aged vets.
If you're counting 2015 with Dermott, then Marner would have been his first pick, so no that's not true. The first three players Dubas drafted all made the NHL.
They all play for different teams now.
