Those players were younger at the time of their signings. I am guessing Doug Wilson thought the team could still make the playoffs for a few years before age caught up with them. On top of that, Pavelski had an inflated shooting percentage that was being sustained by an aging Thornton. Unfortunately for Wilson, Martin Jones absolutely imploded, and the Vlasic contract was a day-one mistake. Wilson was talking about how a late-twenties Vlasic had untapped offensive potential, WTF. How those contracts really hurt the Sharks was costing them depth players like Donskoi and Nyquist, who was a good fit as a rental.

You seen his shooting percentage in Dallas ? The guy barely takes shots from more than 5 foot away of course his shooting percentage will be high.

I’m guessing the sharks are waiting for the NHL to conclude its investigation before they terminate his contract?

They all count the same.

You take more high percentage shots you shots have a better chance of going in. Of course he needs players around him so he can hang around the net all the time but even at 37 he's still damn good at that and he's also still a very good defensive grinder. I was skeptical when the Stars gave Pavelski that contract but i was wrong. He was worth that . I don't even think the Stars expected him to be still that good ( otherwise they wouldn't tried so hard to make sure he had no NMC in his last year ) and he was still so good last year that the Stars protected him anyway because he was that good and important last year.

8 years of injured to hell Karlsson at ~30 or 3 years for Pavelski at 35 ? I'm taking that second option .

As a guy whose favorite player is Joe Pavelski, at the time we let him go, it looked like the right move. We did the same thing with Marleau, and he ended up falling off a cliff. Of course in hindsight, letting him go was a huge mistake, but it made sense then. Karlsson was still a near-PPG player and had a great playoff run for us in 2018-19, and he was under 30.

The Sharks management in the last 3 years reads like a cautionary tale for other franchises.

Stacks of mistakes on top of other mistakes, still does not seem to end today.

Sure

Kane + 4 1st rounders for a 7th

Habs then bury him in the AHL

Why would the Sharks pay someone else to bury him in the AHL when they can do the same? I get that it's a distressed asset but people really need to get their head on straight when it comes to throwing out proposals for these sorts of situations. If your demand isn't reasonable to such a point that they can deal with it themselves then it's not going to work. If no team wants to send a cap dump the Sharks way and play Kane, so be it. They will sit him out for the season and buy him out next window. Otherwise, stop the outlandish and unproductive proposals.

If someone else buries him in the AHL or buys him out they will also be eating the cap hit. That’s why the Sharks would do this.

I agree. Four firsts is crazy. But they may trade him for someone else to bury or buy out.

A first, a lesser cap dump and a top end prospect might get it done.

The Sharks will retain 1.5 mil max and take back a cap dump but they very likely will not pay assets for anyone to take Kane.

Would they take back Adam Henrique or Jakob Silfverberg ? Their under contract for only 3 more seasons instead of 4.
Fresh start for both Henrique and Kane.

I'd hope they could find a buyer in an eastern club. Hate to see him pasting his former team mates over and over and.....

I don’t care - Kane plays a hard game, but he isn’t Scott Stevens or Tom Wilson out there taking people out.

If he is as hated in the dressing room as all these rumors would have us believe wouldn’t that also give that dressing room great motivation to get over on Kane?

All Evander has to do is pick 3 teams that he knows wouldn’t want to trade for him, and just collect some cheques.

Dude is crazy talented, and I’d take him on the Leafs if there was a way to make it work. Assuming his head is now on straight

because people have nothing better to so than troll the trade forums with intentionally insane deals that would never fly from a real GM

Oh man I would seriously pay good money to see this happen. It would be glorious for so many reasons -none of which involve him being great and pushing the leafs over the top, fwiw.

Although the edge that he plays with is a bit too sharp for Dubas' tastes under normal circumstances, his goal scoring instincts and self-confidence are off the charts on the Dubie-scale. And so Kane is a player he wants badly in all likelihood.

And Im sure that Kane would be a lot more popular in a more relaxed locker room like the Leafs, where young, over-paid superstars reign supreme (and have the spotlight on them), and they certainly wont hold him accountable for having a me-first approach to the game and practices. Or ask him to check his big and "eccentric" personality at the door. Diversity is never a bad thing, and theres an untapped portion of Toronto that Kane can reach out to.

And heck the TO media will be on his ass 24/7 so he cant make many bad decisions on his off days, other than getting dragged out with the boys to go hang with Beiber.....he will have to learn quickly that what happens at Beibers, stays at Beibers..

Seriously Dubas needs to make this happen because I seriously cant see how this could go terribly wrong in any way. Seems like a great fit.
