I'll counter.

Caulfield+Kotkaniemi+your next 9 firsts for Kane.

I don't think I need to remind you that Kane would've been your top scorer by a wide margin last season.
Kane is a cancer and teams are built off character and passion. He will be out on waivers to be bought out. He’s out of the league after that.

The Montreal Canadiens currently have a player by the name of Jonathan Drouin on their current roster.

All Evander has to do is pick 3 teams that he knows wouldn’t want to trade for him, and just collect some cheques.

Dude is crazy talented, and I’d take him on the Leafs if there was a way to make it work. Assuming his head is now on straight
Even if his head was somewhat straight, big if, I don’t think bringing him into Toronto would be a good move.

Make no mistake, the situation with Drouin sucks. But it's a minor annoyance compared to the complete mess Evander Kane leaves everywhere he goes. And hot damn, is he surpassing himself with this one! I think the situations compare poorly.

I'll take the 2x5M contract of Drouin, who will be at worse, a non-factor, over the 4x7M radioactive guy who is hated by his teammates on top of being a certifiably piss-poor human being.

So the team hates Kane and could be playing lousy in protest and now are threatening to leave the team while Kane goes out and actually plays hard and well?

Keep Kane, chuck the roster.
A number of players who, I believe, don’t want him as a teammate are also under long and unmovable contracts so that’s kind of in the way.

Getting Kane out is probably the easier go.

At this point I'm not so sure that Kane gets the opportunity to continue in the NHL. I think it'll be overseas for him, where this will be forgotten and he can let his image simmer a bit. Maybe after a few years he'll get another opportunity here.

As good as a player he is, he's not exactly a hot commodity or a position of dire need. He's made his mistakes and he'll hopefully take the opportunity to rectify them and come back fresh and focused.

I would ❤️ love to see him in Toronto. It would give the 6 + media shows based out of Toronto …… countless opportunity to expand their programming.

Bring down Jerry Springer to cover his me too moment when he blames all his troubles on racism in the NHL…..

Also uh, now the sharks can't even buy him out anymore. The time went by like that other guy said here.

A player with a bad attitude and poor character, that no other team wants, MB should be all over this

Wild one and yeah, probability is very low but here you go boys and girls! Who says no to this? Both teams? :sarcasm:

* Gallagher ($6.5M for 6 years)
* Drouin ($5.5M for 2 years)
* Weber's LTIR contract
* Possible future if the Sharks want to retain on both Karlsson/Kane. Might be willing to include Brook or some other prospect similar (Grade B+ type).
for
* Karlsson ($11.5M for 6 years) *$3.5M retention
* Kane ($7M for 4 years) *$3M retention

* Habs deep at RW and I feel we can afford to loose Gallagher. Sharks look like they can use a right handed shot winger
* Drouin gets a fresh start.
* Habs take on the problem Kane and the declining Karlsson but salary in matches salary out (if you exclude the Weber on LTIR contract)
* If the Sharks, don't want to retain, we got no deal!
* Gallagher has a 6 team no trade list. Doubt the Sharks are on his list. He's probably the most valuable piece in this trade.
* Karlsson has a NMC and would have to waive to come to Montreal (Weber replacement for the Habs)

Another idea?
Both Gallagher and Drouin. And Weber's LTIR contract
for
Kane and a 1st rounder with lottery protection

then I suspect they end up buying him out and retaining an assload more than that

It's still the much better option than trading an absurd amount of futures to get rid of him. There's a reason why no team holds on to more dead money on a contract with term than the 1.5 mil. They will save 1.125 million off the cap just by burying him at worst. Then with a buyout, they will save 3.3, 4.3, and 2.3 million before the 1.6 dead hit for the last three years of his buyout. If a team wants to make a deal here, they have to actually make a legitimate offer that's better than that from a cost perspective. Those three years where they're 'retaining an assload more than that' is still not worth paying significant assets to do. It'll be some combination of current roster players that are expendable or they will take care of it themselves. They're not going to get rid of 1st round picks to drop Kane.

Sharks easily say no to both, even without retention. (Your another idea one blows our cap out of the water, and we will not trade a 1st to get rid of Kane)

Also their recent first round pick. Kind of funny for a Habs fan to be talking about character. They loved Kovalev and the Kostitsyns. Not that I think anyone should be trying to acquire Kane.

He's a good player on the ice, but it's just not worth it.

I thought the biggest issue was Karlsson and Kane don't like each other. so why trade them together?

isn't this thread (EDIT: well not the thread but assuming his value) a bit presumptuous until the NHL releases their findings?
  • He bets at all, he's probably suspended from the NHL for life a la Pete Rose. Sharks will probably be able to void his contract.
  • Even if he was not suspended or if he came off a limited suspension, no NHL team would touch him especially if he bet against the Sharks (perhaps he'd go back to Minsk in the KHL)
  • He is declared innocent then all the low ball trade offers are nonsense. Unless you are playing the "unlikeable" card. Kuznetsov trade might be enlightening on how much these so-called antics affects trade value.
  • Otherwise Kane is a big guy who hits and scores. Most teams would love to have a player like him. Similar to Chris Kreider (but I'd give the edge to Kane since he's a better PKer but it sounds like Chris has the better locker room personality :shrug: )

Incorrect. Yes he has baggage and its a turn off but kane can still play at a high level. Also this is the new NHL where if a player had am issue the league isbsupppe to help. Kane will play on the NHL somewhere next season at some point .
