It's actually other way around. Most of our players that moved out didn't pan out to much.

We have won our share of trades. Jvr for Schenn. We robbed McCabe. We got Gardiner for free. Sparks hasn't turned to be anything neither was Reimmer. Kulemin, Frattin, gundstrom, trusty, Jeremy Williams

Everyone talks about Steen. He only scored 30 goals once in his life time and handful of times 20 goals in a very stacked Blues team

Most of his life he was a 15-20 goal scorer. We didn't exactly give up a high end 40 goal scorer.
We could be using a Steen type player right now.Good player was Steen.

So there were 2 guys I wanted as free agents (before Washington nabbed Kuemper). Milano and Sansonov.

Could not believe we got him.

However I know Washington doesn't just walk away from him for kicks. Qualifying offers aside they could have worked it out. So why dump him?

We don't have a great sample so far but he's been solid. I feel like he's slow to get into the game but I'm not qualified to assess his techniques. So far so good.

I think the key though is expectations. We need one of our guys to be high average and the other average. We don't need a Vezina just 910 2.5 kinda stuff. I think that's doable for Samsonov. More would be sweet but a lot to ask.

Samsonov will be the #1 this year, regardless of Murray and his health. Im watching his interviews to get a feel for who he is, he cracks subtle jokes, doesnt seem to emomtional. I did not like Campbell always going overboard blaming himself, if i felt it was attention seeking and getting very repetitive, i can only imagine what his team-mates were thinking. Campbell wanted sympathy from media and fans. If he felt that way leave it in the room and his team-mates would believe he felt that way possibly. Samsonov is not like this, which is great.

Don't think Campbell was consciously seeking attention or sympathy - that's his demeanour. Some are actually that hard on themselves.

In saying that I don't think you can win with a goalie who has that sort of demeanour. Both of Samsonov and Murray appear emotionally grounded.

I think it's a good sign his roughest parts of the game are the opening minutes. He manages to rally and pull things together as the games go one and make the saves when they matter the most.

These early game jitters will ideally go away as he builds confidence with more wins

Washington was going after Kuemper. If Samsonov stayed in Washington he would have been the clear backup. I'm sure he would have been happy to do that for his qualifying offer, but if he's making sub 2 million it makes sense he would want to look for a spot where he could get a bunch of games in and perhaps steal the starters role so he could get more next year. Washington was not that place.

This. Soup was a perfectionist which ties into a whole host of other demons. When you put to much pressure on yourself you crack. I know from experience. I can see it in him. I hope he gets the help he needs and does well in Edmonton.

I dont think has was seeking attention or that he was too hard on himself. To me he always looked like somebody with some level of mental issues.
Blaming himself after every goal in every kind of circumstances, even after wins was very very concerning and as was a major red flag. You could always felt that instable vibe around him even when things were going pretty good for him, and suddenly he collapsed again, some say because of the injuries, somes say because of the contract talks, all in all I do think he is not there mentally to handle this job, which is sad and I feel for the guy because I always liked him.

Other than asking 5M for 5 years which we couldnt afford I think this was a huge factor we let him go. This was always the case throughout his entire career no matter which team he played for.

I agree with Sammy… why not us? and why not now?

He’s in an amazing position to succeed here in Toronto… so yeah, why not us?

Campbell 2-1 in 3 games with an 87.4 save percentage and a 5.08 goals against average…

Samsonov 3-0 in 3 games with an 92.7 save percentage and a 1.96 goals against average…

I know it’s very early on but the gamble looks great at the moment…

Can you imagine if Dubas had gone with Comrie instead of Murray?

Samsonov/Comrie tandem would be winning the extreme early season trophy.

Sammy has been solid in his first three games. I hope he can keep it up - we could desperately use a good young goaltender.

Especially with Peksa in the wings too. A future goaltending tandem with Samsonov and Peksa if they develop accordingly could be really good.

He could have gone with Gorgiev instead of Samsonov, so it could be worse

It's funny with all the drama over a superstar in his prime making 10.9 on the Leafs, people still don't look at a contract Campbell got as the disaster it is.

I was hoping for that but I knew as soon as samsonov was signed it was it. TBH I prefer him over comrie and I watched comrie quite a bit in his junior days.

If he was available to us (I mean, interest wise) and were playing here with Samsonov, and as well as he has so far this season, we’d be 6-0 right now quite easily
