Campbell 2-1 in 3 games with an 87.4 save percentage and a 5.08 goals against average…

Samsonov 3-0 in 3 games with an 92.7 save percentage and a 1.96 goals against average…

I know it’s very early on but the gamble looks great at the moment…
Career stats and age plus salary most would make this trade.

Especially with Peksa in the wings too. A future goaltending tandem with Samsonov and Peksa if they develop accordingly could be really good.
It's funny but with Murray now injured Im more comfortable with our G situation. I dont see any way he will steal Samsonov's job, so he is just a vet back up.

As the graphic during last night's game showed, Samsonov *always* gets off to scorching hot starts (at least in the W-L column). It's definitely a pattern.

So as much as I like what I see so far, I'm curious what his numbers and play will look like in the coming weeks before getting too optimistic.

Yep. Tack on a number of these wins to his stats and it’ll be set in stone. Murray will be a solid experienced vet as a number 2.

About Damn time we had an actual tandem.

Why not us… 100%

I dont think has was seeking attention or that he was too hard on himself. To me he always looked like somebody with some level of mental issues.
Blaming himself after every goal in every kind of circumstances, even after wins was very very concerning and as was a major red flag. You could always felt that instable vibe around him even when things were going pretty good for him, and suddenly he collapsed again, some say because of the injuries, somes say because of the contract talks, all in all I do think he is not there mentally to handle this job, which is sad and I feel for the guy because I always liked him.

Other than asking 5M for 5 years which we couldnt afford I think this was a huge factor we let him go. This was always the case throughout his entire career no matter which team he played for.

Consider that when he was here he was the lovable backup turned starter with no expectations at only 1.6 mil cap hit. The media hadn't even dug into him yet when he started needing time off to get his head right. I can't imagine what kind of condition he'd be in with the pressure of a long expensive contract and Berger and co calling his parents about his mental health.

I was a big fan of this signing when it happened but he's off to a better start then even I expected.

Puck handling aside (please stop doing that Samsonov You're not good at it) he's been spectacular Tomorrow is the big test.

If he's not good at it, it's better to practice it during the regular season when games don't mean too much.

He has been terrific in almost every way and I’m starting to feel pretty comfortable with him between the pipes. He is technically better than Campbell and is miles more athletic.

But please, stop playing the puck like you’re Brodeur. It’s like a 50-50 chance a mad scramble will ensue.

If we get top 10 tending we will cover up for a lot of our deficiencies IMO. I’d really like them to trade for a player with a bit of size and grit. A player like Comtois could you a change of scenery. Personally I think a player like Kerfoot holds more value and maybe we could work a three way trade.

Leafs are 2nd in fewest shots allowed.

Winnipeg was a pretty big test. Muzzin, Liljegren out and their o-zone puck movement is as crisp as any. Samsonov made some highly athletic point blank saves on Connor/Dubois/Wheeler.

Don't even care if he tapers off. A .940 is obviously unrealistic to maintain. We just need this guy to give .910-.915 goaltending and it's a win with RFA control. If he's a hot starter, well cool, Murray's out. If things shaky, the other guy is likely healthy.

Crazy to think he's younger than Kallgren and 1 year older than Woll.

Really is a tale of two stories for the goaltending so far.

I thought Dubas blew it very bad with the Murray trade but made up for it by getting Samsonov.

I know it's early but Samsonov is inspiring a lot of confidence so far.

Something I find incredibly frustrating is how slow people in the media have been in recognizing how good the leafs have become defensively. You're paid to talk about hockey, would it kill you to take a few minutes to actually look at some numbers and see how good the leafs have been the last couple years at preventing shots and scoring chances?

Positive news don't sell. You can witness it here, when we lose there is tons of users complaining, but when everything is fine than more and fine it isn't the same. It's easier to stir the shit up and go for easy clicks and hot takes.

I have no idea what the context of my post was but I always thought Sparks was horrible, I’d be surprised if that has changed.
I watched him in the marlies he has talented but consistency and mental fortitude wasn’t it sadly

4-0 start
.938

fingers crossed
He has been known for his early seasons starts. It’s his consistency that I’m more concerned about. I was elated when we signed him and I really hope he solves the goaltending issues we have in the back.

I've heard multiple times that he has a good win/loss record early in seasons but I'm yet to see the peripheral stats from those starts... would be much more telling
