Do you just feel the need to turn every thread into garbage? Like I come in here, post a quality post and then you respond with this trash and pretend you have CTE to excuse it.
Korn might be an excellent goalie coach but he doesn't install the system the team plays in front of the goalie's so i don't understand why you're getting so upset about me mentioning Trotz who has a very very long history of coaching teams who don't give up many goals .

and on the flip side his system also suppresses his own teams offense

Samsonov has the highest ceiling out of all low valued moves we've done, but he'd need to be declared the no.1 from the get go over Murray for it to be even a starting point of getting him into the range of the belief they had in Hyman.

If Murray and Samsonov bounce back too I think it provides us with lots of options moving forward. Hoping Samsonov wins the starting job and we can sign him to a quasi bridge (4x4) and move Murray in the off-season.

That would provide us with a ton of cap flexibility especially if we move Muzzin.

Lots too prove and not drawing any conclusions until they do it for a sustained timeframe during the regular season.

It'd probably be great if he could eventually emerge as the victor in a competitive battle for the starter's role.

and he looked good in the opposite way i was expecting - he just looked big, calm, and positionally solid.

Yes he was square to the puck and very big. This has been a flaw of his though, he is overly aggressive to the shooter and if the defense fails to support him it can get ugly when the puck moves from one side of the net to the other and he is way out of position.

However this doesn't mean anything either way. Mrazek was overly aggressive as well but looked horrible. Tim Thomas was overly aggressive and he made it work with his athletic ability and experience.

My bet is if his body holds up to the playstyle, he is closer to Tim Thomas than Mrazek. I also think a big part of his turnaround will be that the Caps silently aren't very good defensively. If the Leafs play with the structure they did last year we will be limiting lots of high danger chances and he will be left to challenge the shooter very often.

Campbell was almost the opposite, he was very good in tracking the puck side to side and athletic that way but when he was left to challenge the shooter they would simply beat him many times.

How many goals like this did Campbell let in last season?

Thomas also had one of the best D corps in the modern era that were mean and were able to box everyone out and allow Thomas to recover. Tim Thomas behind a lot of other teams could've been a disaster. Same as what we've seen from Quick the last 5 yrs as the Kings Defense aged out. Now he's getting exposed for his aggressive style.

Chara
Seidenberg
McQuaid
Boychuk
Ference
Stuart

He didn't need anyone to clear his crease for him lol

I actually think the Leafs have a more physical defense than people give them credit for. Every guy is over 6 feet with most well over, all around 200 pounds. Muzzin and LIlly hit, Gio clears the crease so does Benn. Sandin hits when he is signed.

Samsonov is poised for a breakout year with our group

From what little I seen he had good size and didn't look too fussed in net.

Hope it works out, you just have to wonder why Wash were ok with letting him go.

I do recall a decent amount of hype on him early on.

If we were hoping for a breakout goalie, Samsonov is certainly off to a great start.

I actually like how steady he is net. For having a reputation as a wildman (which he does obviously show some signs of) he's actually surprisingly calm in net, and the team seems calm in front of him too.

Just needs to clean up breaking down when he goes on his knees to fish for the puck around the crease and he's good to go as the no.1 for the season. It's the only time he looks bad. Solid everywhere else. Not going to hate on the weak goal against caps, all no.1s, even Vasi let in soft goals here and there that make you face palm. Comes with the territory when you face 1000+ shots a season.
