Ill be excited for the first game dont get me wrong, but i just thought Tinordi was brought in for that. Id rather see Barron in the lineup

A lot of people penciling Barron in for the majority of the season. I’m optimistic his game will translate but maybe we can start easing some guys into the NHL. I’d argue we rushed a few guys over the last few years. Drury went overkill on the tuffness but to think we have a ton of options to tailor our lineup depending on the team, (and injuries) has me excited. Btw is this taking away from the nemeth signing, seemed like the board is fairly split.

On the topic of Reaves, I didn’t expect you to be so vocal on this.

I think in isolation it’s a nothing move.

In combination with other moves, and potential moves, I’d like to avoid seeing a right side where Kreider, Blais, Goodrow and Reaves are eating away at possibilities there.

So a lot also depends on how we use guys, if anyone becomes a crutch, and what moves we make next.

In that sense I’d like to move Strome and spread things out

Laf-Zibanejad-Kravtsov
Panarin-Chytil-Kakko
Kreider-Goodrow-Blais
Barron-Rooney-Reaves

Knowing that Blais might be starting in the top six. The hope there would be to eventually swap him down to the third line.

Reaves to me is overkill with no real benefit beyond a very limited role for which he will likely receive significantly more ice time than required.

True. But if it wasn’t Reaves I was worried about getting overplayed, it would be some other 13th forward. Every coach in the NHL seems to have this weakness. Witness the quadruple-A players who got ice time last year when we should have been seeing what we had in a Gauthier, for example.

And Gauthier is likely a goner now - and frankly I’d be more open to seeing Barron and Hunt get that time on the fourth.

Amazing. I am one of the biggest anti-goon guys around, and yet I have no problem with moving a third round pick for a guy who’s at least able to play a mediocre fourth line game and then take on the Tom Wilson’s of the world when necessary. He’ll dress like 1/3 to 1/2 of the games and play limited minutes. He’s a specialized 13th forward. We gave up a third round pick for him. I have no problems with this move.

The return (value wise, not necessarily directionally) on the Buchnevich trade continues to be my one (major) gripe with this off-season.
I am with you. I was very happy to see the end of the cheap shots/retribution era. But obviously we were getting ahead of ourselves.
And it’s not even just the players. The league itself told us quite clearly that they endorse the pro wrestling nonsense.
Turning the other cheek is really not an option.

I would hope they give Gauthier a shot in the top six. If he fails, fair enough. But I feel like we don’t really know yet what he can do.
I know I’m in the minority here :)

He’s probably done here barring a trade.

On the right side we now have Kakko, Kravtsov, Blais and now Reaves. Maybe Goodrow.

On the left side we have Laf, Panarin, Kreider, Barron and Hunt. Maybe Blais.

At center we have Zib, Strome, Chytil, Goodrow and Rooney.

At least one guy is moving or going to Hartford.

VGK guy here. Think it was 2 years ago but they did have to carry Wilson off the ice at T-mobile. He was out cold. But as a hockey player, Reaves is now a complete liability.

That’s the 600+ minutes part I am concerned about. Even at half that number, it’s a lot of nothingness.

I know it’s probably a pipe dream but as I think you’d agree, it would be great to know what we have before we lose it. And him playing limited fourth line minutes here and there wasn’t a good showcase.

To me, this signifies a path towards trading Strome and going with

Panarin-Chytil-Blais
Laf-Zib-Kravtsov
Kreider-Goodrow-Kaako
Hunt-Rooney-Reaves
________

I’m expecting another vet 4th liner on its way. Barron will start the season in the AHL.

I don't like the third rounder having to go but if you think of it as Howden for Reaves swap you just really can't complain. I trust that Gallant won't play him every game and doesn't go full AV/Glass mode.

And that doesn’t inspire me. Kakko on the third. Blais on the first. Barron not even in the lineup.

I don’t think Reaves will dress every game and that’s fine. He’s a a good teammate and he’ll help when needed but I don’t think he’s going to play more than 50 games. We’ll get a look at Hunt, maybe give Gauthier some chances before deciding what to do with him. Blais and Goodrow can play both wings which gives us some flex with looks.

It feels like a missed opportunity. And I feel like it kind of adds up at some point. You overpay for a guy here, don’t get an optimal return there, maybe go for overkill there, and then you start hearing about Kravtsov and Chytil possibly being in deals and you can’t rule it out either.

This should not be the end, there has to be some other tough guy out there. If they are doing this it's a thing I want them to overdo even more.

Barron will not be waiver eligible, How much can Deslauriers really cost in trade?

I think it’s fine and good until you start penciling in a lineup and realize which guys are left out or still sitting in a bottom six role.

That’s fine. As long as he’s a good presence and steps up at the right times as a 12th/13th forward I’d be more than happy with it. And knowing Reaves he’ll do exactly that.

For real

Wilson takes the ass kicking (best case scenario by the way) and then smiles knowing he basically influenced half the moves Drury did this summer

He’s already won lol
It wasn't just Wilson. The entire division we are in is tough. We were soft as heck. Wilson was the the tipping point for management.

I’d start training camp with something like this in mind…
Panarin-Strome-Kakko
Lafreniere-Mika-Gauthier
Kreider-Chytil-Kravtsov
Blais-Goodrow-Reeves/Hunt
Rooney
Then take it from there. Guys like Richards and Barron can come up as/when needed. Kravtsov can move up if Gauthier fails. There’s some flexibility there.
I actually think we need a little more depth, even.
