I want this team to come out running at the Backstrom, Carlson, Oshie, etc. I want their coach looking at Tom Wilson saying you gotta go do something, and when he does, there's Reaves. I want his team looking to him to protect them and see him let them down.

Reaves to me is overkill with no real benefit beyond a very limited role for which he will likely receive significantly more ice time than required.

everything you mention is true imo. I think Reaves has his moments. Some hard checks to change momentum and some boneheaded play which hurts the team. Gallant is a bit old school though and honestly, i think it was irresponsible for the last regime to have nobody to police this very young team including two prized lottery picks. Was told it’s a different league and that’s true but teenagers and so many 22 years or younger is a different team imo.

No, this isn’t the 70’s or 80’s so the message of policing isn’t as pronounced or necessary. Imo, it’s kinda nice to know Reaves is around though. Yes, he’s for Tom Wilson, the Isles and limited others while i’m happy we’re not reading the Devils got him to protect their lineup including Bieber :).

This should not be the end, there has to be some other tough guy out there. If they are doing this it's a thing I want them to overdo even more.

Barron will not be waiver eligible, How much can Deslauriers really cost in trade?

I agree.

@Edge hinted that more moves were coming. Is the Gallant brothers still a possibility? Can we lure Imama from Phoenix with Geoegiev?

Tinordi or Reaves, one or the other was enough, i don't want Reaves taking ice time from Barron.

I get the feeling Barron is going to start out as the 1C on a stacked Hartford team. He’ll get the first call of an injury hits. Gallant has said he doesn’t want young players on the 4th Line

Amazing. I am one of the biggest anti-goon guys around, and yet I have no problem with moving a third round pick for a guy who’s at least able to play a mediocre fourth line game and then take on the Tom Wilson’s of the world when necessary. He’ll dress like 1/3 to 1/2 of the games and play limited minutes. He’s a specialized 13th forward. We gave up a third round pick for him. I have no problems with this move.

The return (value wise, not necessarily directionally) on the Buchnevich trade continues to be my one (major) gripe with this off-season.

He was never a scratch before this year. He played 37 games but in previous years he played 71 (shortened season), 80, 79, 80, 64 (injured?), 81. One full season and one partial season due to trade was under gallant. I would fully expect him to play nearly every game barring injury or his game getting even worse

Panarin, Mika, Lafreniere, Kakko, Kreider, Chytil, Strome, Kravtsov, Goodrow

Thats our top 9. If we assume that we get better production from the four kids this year, anything we get from the likes of

Blais, Rooney, Barron and Reaves is a bonus.

If as @Edge states. They don't view Blais as a 4th liner, then we are still in pretty good shape in the top 9 and this addition last night was done to provide those guys with a level of comfort that wasn't and hasn't even there in a while, and that includes Tanner Glass stay in NY.

Reaves has that unpredictable idiot factor that I like. Keep opposing teams on their toes and the younger and softer forwards are going to appreciate his presence.

I feel like I should restate again that the people that are against Drury’s recent moves are not against making the team tougher so much as (1) that every move Drury makes seems to be made within the extremely narrow lens of “making the team tougher to play against” when that is just one aspect of a hockey team, and (2) the apparent urgency with which these moves are being made, like the youngest team in the league is ready to contend for the Cup.

At least the other players added can contribute in some way. This is a pure face-puncher. What year is Drury building his team for?

Did I miss the Rangers trading Panarin, Fox, Zibanejad or any of their 8 1st round picks in the past 4 years?

Don't care about Tom Wilson. Don't care about Matt Martin.

I want Reaves to go after Ovechkin and Backstrom, Barzal, Lee, Beaulivier and any of the opposing teams top guys the way our guys are targeted.

Really hate the lack of desire and or ability to respond in kind to that sort of behavior from opposing teams heavier players.

I think the Rangers have gone a bit too far with the “toughness” thing. It’s obvious now that the Wilson thing has led to this being their top offseason plans. I’m fine with reshaping the bottom 6 but it seems like overkill to me at least

You aren't getting my point, why have two of them? At some point both Lundkvist and Barron might be sitting.
I don't really like having a defenseman play this role. It was different back when the roster allowed for the extra man but now having a dman in the box for a long time just throws off your other pairings and leaves you short if anyone else gets hurt.

You are dreaming. You know it’s going to take more than Georgiev…

This league is the biggest copycat league there is. Lindros is coming! Draft guys 6'5"! Generational talent? Tank for the draft! Karlsson? 5'10"defensemen, fast and small!
Big Rig wins 3 cups? Big body hockey!
Let there be truculence!
The pendulum swings. It was bound to do this. It was only a matter of time before the larger teams started having their way given the way this league officiated the post season. Four years in a row, Caps, Blues and Tampax2 big nasty wins. What's wrong with showing up to the fight with the right gear imstead of showing up with no gear at all?

Darren Pang was on the other day and referenced "Ranger Fans" when he was talking about how underrated he is, and how much of a positive impact he had on the Blues. A PITA to play against. With skill.
Said we are gonna love him.

Yep, everyone lost their minds about us getting pushed around by the Islanders and now we try and build a bottom 6 like theirs and it's a problem? Reaves is a fine 4th liner, he is a good forechecker and he makes people feel it when he finishes his checks.

The Islanders bottom 6 isn't great because they're tough. They are great because they are tough and can play hockey.

Definitely the most skilled enforcer we’ve signed since as far back as I can remember. Shooting at 10% over his career - that’s pretty damn respectable for a dude out there primarily to ward off the demons

What he brings is order on the ice.

If you don't think other teams will take notice, fine. I personally think all teams know now not to cross the line. There's a difference between playing hard and bullying the vulnerable.

It's amazing to me that so many fans don't understand that tough players will not alter their games based upon who they are playing against.

Wilson will continue to be Wilson. The Islanders 4th line will play like they always have against the Rangers.

If the aim is to win a couple more fights, fine. Other than that you gain nothing by adding goons, except perhaps sitting more talented players.

Having a tough and effective team is accomplished with players like Marchand, Kucherov, pick a Tkachuk, and the Islanders 4th line..
