If Gauthier isn’t going to get legit 3rd line time, there is no reason for him to play on the 4th. That line is Blais-Rooney-Reaves/McKegg
By no means do I think that the Rangers are done, but as it stands now, this is how I'm lining the team up:

Laf-Zib-Kakko
Panarin-Strome-Kravtsov
Kreider-Goodrow-Chytil
Blais-Rooney-Reaves
Gauthier
Barron

Barron and Gauthier slide up to the third line when they're in for Reaves and Goodrow moves down to the 4th line at ES.

Lindgren-F0x
Miller-Trouba
Nemeth-Lundkvist
Tinordi

Nemeth becomes the 7th D when Schneider or Robertson earn their place a year or two down the line.

Shesty
Kinkaid

Jones, Georgiev, and Strome are the trade bait this summer for an upgrade at center. Berard, Cuylle, and Othmann likely two years out from being in contention for spots. We're set on the wings, need to trade for a center.

Well, you all did not disappoint. Except @Machinehead. You and your logic and stats and level-headedness and not "OMG TOM WILSONNNNN!!!!!!!"

Seriously, for years we've watched everyone piss and moan about toughness. Then the team, who is actually overflowing with so much skill that "giving away" a top-6 winger means we can FINALLY see a star winger born on the Rangers, trades for and signs a few nasty dudes who can actually play, and the board goes apoplectic like we just traded 4 1st round picks to sign Tanner Glass to a $12.5M, 8 year deal. If I see "rent free" once more, I'm going to utilize the block feature for the first time ever.

Please, PLEASE, put up the charts of Nemeth and Hajek and Reaves and Howden again. Everyone just stare at them for the rest of the off-season.

Someone said it already:

HFNYR: "More toughness!"
2021 off-season
HFNYR: "NO! Not THAT toughness!"

Gallant must be loving these moves and has to have imput as well. This team is going to be a downright pain in the ass to play against.
Like it or not, we’re at least moving in a direction. I think Quinn and Gorton (and JD) were kind of running in place, a bit. It’s also possible Gorton makes essentially the same moves, but it certainly appears Gallant-Drury is being pretty constructive.

The overreactions to this move on twitter are insane. Still has to be people not over the Buch trade

And as much as people are complaining about the Buch trade... If he goes back to a 40 point winger without being stapled next to Zibanejad (especially if Kakko or Laf get that spot and take off), those same people will, of course, claim it was the right move in hindsight. I liked Buch, a lot. But he was clearly redundant, going to be expensive, and there had to be at least some questions as to what he really is as a player away from a guy with a 65G-125P stat line in his last 113 games...

I'm not sure Jones is trade bait this summer. I actually think he could have a more prevalent place in the lineup than many seem to think. He arguably has the highest offensive ceiling of any of our Dmen, and is also very good defensively. Can't say for sure, but unless he is traded soon, I think he could get a lot more minutes than many expect. And I think Jones makes Nemeth the 7th D just as easily as Schneider or Robertson. A lot of folks underestimating him. I think going to be pleasantly surprised.

Also, I think Goodrow might play on the wing and take faceoffs for Chytil, with Chytil at center. Or Chytil gets move up to 2C, with Strome at 2RW. Then Goodrow at 3C with Kreider and Kravtsov.

1st line and 4th line look about right to me though.

This is actually my favorite acquisition of the offseason so far. I kind of wish they made this happen before the Buch trade. And maybe then we wouldn't have moved him for Blais and a 2nd.

Not the move. The return.

Wash, repeat, rinse.

Potential? Yes. But that's all Jones is right now. He's a 21 year old kid that's still very raw. We saw glimpses of the potential, but he's definitely not ready for full time NHL duty. He's not earning a spot over Lindgren, Miller, and Nemeth. No where for him to play anyway. Not now and not in two or three years where your left side likely looks like Robertson, Miller, and probably still Lindgren as long as he's still in one piece. Right now may very well be the most Jones is ever worth in a trade.

Blais and Reaves are such different players. I don’t think they fill the same role on the team. I doubt it changes the Buch trade

WITH the same coach as last year.

* I don't think Gorton should have been fired, but you all know this is true.
Once again, thank Tom Wilson.

It's most likely the case if the cross check to a the neck of a downed Buch and the ragdolling Panarins head on the ice didn't happen.

but it's more than just that. We are now geared to play Playoff Hockey

Which is a valid question, but I'm sure the other teams in the league had the same questions regarding who Buch is as a player. It's not dissimilar to fans suggesting Strome (edit: LOL autocorrect to "Stroke" is hilarious) is useless and only good because he plays with Panarin. There exists a perception in and around the league that who you play with can have hugely positive or negative impact on your stat line, whether or not that ultimately is true (I was here for the "Rick Nash is going to be a superstar playing with real players like Gaborik" stuff). I have to assume that had at least some to do with the return for an RFA looking for a payday.

There were…other options discussed. I’ll leave it at that.

The crux of the deal comes down to how the Rangers view Blais and subsequently how they use him and if they’re accurate or being overly optimistic.

As for the pick, I actually don’t really care about as far as selecting a prospect. I think it’s a potential asset for the moves we are inevitably going to make it - be it short term or something closer to a year out.
