Yeah, but guys. What are we going to do without Greg McKegg’s 5 and 4?
McKegg isn't seeing NHL time unless half the team catches COVID or there are 3, maybe 4 injuries up front. He's an AAAA signing for Hartford.

Yes, as this board has non-stop for the entire time either of us have been here.

But when that player is a nothing 4th liner, I'm willing to get my popcorn and watch the insults fly.

When it's a guy putting us shorthanded, as has happened often over the years, that's when you see the other side of me.

Pick up some extra butter for me.

I feel like I should restate again that the people that are against Drury’s recent moves are not against making the team tougher so much as (1) that every move Drury makes seems to be made within the extremely narrow lens of “making the team tougher to play against” when that is just one aspect of a hockey team, and (2) the apparent urgency with which these moves are being made, like the youngest team in the league is ready to contend for the Cup.

At least the other players added can contribute in some way. This is a pure face-puncher. What year is Drury building his team for?
I would disagree with the narrow lens comment. Drury isn’t picking up the John Scotts of the world. These additions are all legitimate NHLers, not beefy punching bags. Most of them aren’t even fighters, they’re just gritty forecheckers which is something we sorely lacked.

the only criticism I could see is that he seems to be slightly overpaying for his guys. Like it seems like he’s locked in on getting that guy. The Goodrow contract, trading Buch for Blais, maybe we didn’t need to throw a 3rd at Reaves. The UFA signings for the most part were pretty good and needed to happen.

I don't disagree but wasnt that what Tinordi was brought in for? And Gabriel just signed as a free agent in Toronto for 750, wouldnt that had made more sense.
Tinordi is a 7D

The cup will go through the Islanders now. We need to be able to endure and persevere playing that style of game. Even Washington could be a matchup in the playoffs.

The team of last year would have folded and withered away. We're now better built for the playoffs and that's the bottom line.

I've been lukewarm with Goodrow and Blais and Tinordi, but for some rea(ve)son, adding Reaves has got me jazzcercized

If Gauthier isn’t going to get legit 3rd line time, there is no reason for him to play on the 4th. That line is Blais-Rooney-Reaves/McKegg

I don’t know if you are disagreeing with me, because the rest of your post seems to support my point. Had Drury made any moves that are not furthering the goal of more toughness and sandpaper? Has he paid a premium on every move for more sandpaper and toughness?

Again, I’m not saying that these were not team needs. I am saying that he should have been smarter about it and not attacked it with the urgency like we were going into deep playoff battles next year.

Honestly as long as the youngsters take big strides the way improved bottom six and bottom pair will make this a really good team. Just hope we dont have any depth scoring problems

Patrik Nemeth was not necessarily a swords-and-sandals signing.
