re: Altitude sickness

I thought the issue started for him with the Chicago game? Wouldn't that rule out altitude?... Not to mention that he's played in Colorado before, and was in Whistler, BC during the offseason.

Town of Whistler is at sea level top of Whistler/Blackcomb is maybe 7500 feet

We should start a pick em pool of various illnesses. Closest guess wins a steak dinner from that one dude.

This is sorta for comedy but it's telling inasmuch as we had this same "what does Joey have" conversation last December. Again, the amateur diganoses (serious and otherwise) aside, the fact we had this same basic conversation lends credence, IMO, to the current concern for his health.

posts below from this thread

Agree. I don't know if Johansen is fighting some kind of illness or injury, if his weight training has taken a toll on his cardio or if he's just in some sort of mental funk, but he needs to engage somehow.

RyJo has got nothing left. He is obviously coasting out there.

I think Joey's sick. But it's not the mumps. Nope, just to be different he has the measles.

Our luck it's the Black Plague :sarcasm:

Put me in the "joey is sick" camp. He looks like death warmed over on the bench.

Johansen is just floating around...

....but he'll probably do something sick in the shootout.

Something has to be up w Joey - he looks like ****

Smallpox.

Money in the shootout. Now he can go back to nursing his anthrax.

I'd say he's sick - maybe the flu.

Clearly you haven't noticed all the other ailments he has. There's a bunch. :sarcasm:

That OT period he looked like a real liability out there. Hopefully its just fatigue from all the OT games.

He's been beauty in the SO so I'm leaning toward it's physical. (insert lame Olivia Newton-John reference)

Maybe polio, Socks? Scurvy? Lagrippe? Yellow fever?

somewhere in there, missing training camp may play a part. The optimist in me also says it seems like a mental funk and he'll break out in a big way (please?)

Croup. Or possibly syphilis.

I think it will come out at some point that he's been playing hurt, he really looks to pass rather than skate the last 10 games or so, perhaps a little groin pull or something, maybe back.

And yeah, Johansen looked exhausted. Did anyone else happen to notice that one time during OT when he basically collapsed in the faceoff circle immediately prior to an O-zone faceoff, then get right back up? Freaked me out. :(

Dengue Fever.

It could be a tumor.

You set 'em up...

I know he's been playing heavy minutes, it's just what I see when he skates, he isn't digging in and bent over when he skates, he's more upright and looks to pass right away, like he's nervous to get hit. Just my opinion as a former player noticing his mannerisms, it looks like he's nursing an injury that's slowed him a bit. It's not like there is a drop off as the game goes along, he seems that way from the opening face-off. He's got great hands obviously and is contributing and making some huge shootout goals, but something just seems off to me with his skating. Time will tell I suppose.

Joey is what 22? How the hell can he be exhausted playing an extra 3 minutes a game? And floating for a good portion of that time?

My guesses:

Not in shape
Nagging injury
Head case- still somewhat annoyed by his contract
Still emulating Nash.

Oh my god I can't believe this one didn't come to mind immediately.

Lupus.

Having watched numerous episodes of House, it is never lupus.

Oh god I forgot about all that! That was a great run of posts.

I was hoping you would see it.

This one was the trigger for me.

I just recalled listing antiquated illnesses. Didn't recall the context. But it's the context I find most interesting now.

I'm going to add swine flu to the list.

But honestly it is concerning that we're dealing with this two years in a row. Perhaps it's something as easy to deal with as an iron deficiencyor a tthyroid issue.

My sources (don't ask) tell me that RyJo spent this summer stealing artifacts from sacred native american burial grounds. Shocking if true

When asked if why he brought some back, but not others, he looked around and then replied, "We didn't want them anyways."

I really thought that was a bus post. Not enough bold though.

EMPHASIS for the win bud.

lol same here. I was wondering what point he was trying to make?

Maybe he was going to go against the grain and say he wasn't sick

Who needs to make a point when they can just "respond" to themselves, right? :dunce:

And I prolly would have been banned if I brought up that amount of past posts by other people "proving" my "point" on Jojo.

When I "respond" to myself aka highlight a post or multiple posts its because I either think they've been missed by a lot of people or just feel it was an important point I want to repeat or add upon. The same is true when I(or someone else) quotes "a lot" of "old" posts. Its either because we think there's "important" info that has been passed over by many people or find the "tin foil connection", mainly in retrospect, to be pretty interesting.

One day I'll be old enough to attempt to prove my relevance by posting stories about unrelated sports games and teams that have no currently living players or don't even exist anymore. One day.

Wasn't the '11 o'clock' over a while ago?

Haven't read the entire thread but has anyone mentioned his thyroid? It would explain his elevated heart rate in the summer and his energy levels. First thing I thought of when I heard this.

If he skates Friday with no further explanation, I guess we will have to rehash this again in January or February when he gets the "fatigues" again.

The multi-post thing has been misinterpreted by many. The new point was that we had actually had the same conversation before about Johansen, albeit unconnected with any sort of "leaving the team". The multi-post was simply evidence that the discussion was had, not to attempt to prove or disprove any part of the earlier discussion. People can be free to interpret this however they want.

And if you guys don't find the random listing of antiquated diseases at least a little funny, you have problems.
