I refrained from commenting about Joey's illness. But, it's getting harder to resist reading between the lines when you read the disconnect between Torts and Joey's quotes in the last puckrakers article (quoted above). If it was something temporary like the flu or a head cold, one would think the details would be released.

Switching gears, who is giving info to Brooks? Hopefully not Dubi.

Cant imagine Dubi would leak anything like that, unless Torts wanted this info leaked. :naughty:

I'm with Joey on what happens in the room stays in the room. He has every reason to be upset it was leaked. It certainly wouldn't have come directly from Torts, he and Brooks are World War 3 waiting to happen. So who did it? I just don't see any of the boys talking. I'm going with the Ghost of Richie conspiracy.

The whistleblower is Ryan Johansen. It's kind of obvious with the amount of Johansen-related news coming straight from the team...

Maybe Joey has an ear infection and he misheard the reporter say 'out of shape' when he actually meant 'out of state'.

Darn STD's. :sarcasm:

I read the Dispatch article. He obviously doesn't want to get into it and the front office really shouldn't discuss player health without player permission. We aren't owed an explanation. I don't even want one. All I want to know is if he's 100% and if he's going to be in the lineup. Other than that, it's none of my business.

Frankly I'm pretty bored with the Johansen talk.

And when he goes out tonight and does the same ole Joey ? Then what? Just accept he glides around not giving 100%?

The only thing I can think of is some form of STD or something like that. Something that is a legitimate reason to be out but, embarrassing enough that no one wants to put it out there.

He has a right to keep any medical info private. The reason I don't buy that angle is because is Torts a doctor now? It took Torts coming in to properly diagnose and recognize there is a problem with Joey? No. Its been an ongoing thing and nobody wants to call him out. Why do you think someone leaked locker room talk to the media?

Odd. Johansen is coming off a very long active streak. Wonder why someone keeps beating this up? It went from mildly entertaining to just sad.

I don't know what was up with Johansen. Don't really care. I just hope he's healthy soon, stays that way, and plays like we know he can.

We've now had multiple times in the last two years where we've had to resort to speculating on what is causing extreme fatigue for Joey. Whether he was technically in the lineup or not there were times where he was useless because of fatigue.

He played 202 straight games and has been our best player for the last 150 of those.

So nothing was ever diagnosed. But he trusts the medical staff. And is now 100% recovered from some ailment that is 100% unknown.

Bizarre.

As long as he's good and there aren't serious health concerns, hope he can get back to playing at his All-Star level.

I really didn't get that out of the article on the Dispatch.

“He saw the doctors and was informed it wasn’t a long-term issue, and now he’s back,” Kekalainen said.

Strange? Maybe. But nothing I read met your interpretation nor did I come to the same conclusion(s). He (Johansen) was sufficiently vague, seems obvious he doesn't want to tell us anything.

From the quote, the doctors came up with something.

From the quote, the doctors came up with something.

“I just had some things I’m not used to and I wanted to do some digging and figure out what’s going on.

Johansen departed Denver on Saturday morning as his teammates prepared to play the Colorado Avalanche that night. He was sent home a commercial flight, along with a team trainer. A battery of testing followed to determine why Johansen, in his words, “wasn’t feeling (himself).â€

Johansen was briefly hospitalized during the summer after complaining of an accelerated heart rate, but further testing earlier this year determined that he was suffering from no serious ailments, he said.
His most recent ailment was “kind of similar,†Johansen said, but “not to the same extent.â€
“I don’t even know how to explain it, really,†Johansen said. “Basically I just haven’t been the same

The weird one:

The support they've shown for me, making sure I take care of myself before hockey.

comes a year after he said this:

“I had the best VO2 on the team,†Johansen said. “Obviously, everybody’s conditioning can get better. That’s why you put in the work every summer. But I don’t think it’s a problem with me.

The whole thing is weird. They're obviously not going to disclose what came from those tests to the public. Just hope it's not related to a more serious heart issue.

I'm gonna wait until Friday to see if we hear anymore, but none of those diseases you listed sound like something I want to build my franchise around.

True. Those are just the common ones with symptoms based diagnosed which people (including medical professionals) sometimes not believing the patient. I only bring these up as it justifies the precaution of the front office. Johansen has a right to privacy and I trust the CBJ management, the people investing millions of dollars in his career, to privately do the due diligence necessary to protect themselves.

If everyone involved agrees he is good to play, that is good enough for me.

We do nothing. We do nothing but spend our time and money cheering on the CBJ hoping our noise and support in game can lift the team a bit on home ice. We get enjoyment for our investment. We get a sense of community from sharing our love of the Jackets with other like hearted people. I trust the driver to drive The Bus, if the ride doesn't meet my expectations, I get off at the next stop.

Its game day man, GO CBJ!

But more to your point. If there is a next time, we trust the individuals involved to make the best decision for Johansen's health and then the success of the franchise.

Whole thing doesnt add up. I wonder if there was a blow up of he has a mental issue, and was sent home from the road trip. We all specualted that he would be Torts first victim, it took a periord for Torts to call him out after the first period, and then benched him in the 3rd. Just not buying that he was sent home, from road trip, 5 days later hes ready to play. Whats really weird is Torts said that he will watch him tonight, because he looked low energy to Torts in practice yesterday, which Johansen said was news to him ?

It's a weird situation and I just have a feeling there's more in this than what's leaking outside. Joey said that what's been said in the room should stay in the room, but at the same time he's confirming that Torts called him out. If Joey wanted it to stay in the room, he would've just declined to comment. Brooksy was the only source until now and I don't think too many people took him seriously.

Will be interesting to see if Torts and Joey can coexist on the same team
