A short-term illness like the flu that was exacerbated by altitude sickness?

If it was that, they would just say so. In fact, i'm not sure why they didn't say it was that even if it wasn't.

They are not averse to saying what Saad has right now is flu-like:

http://bluejacketsxtra.dispatch.com/content/stories/2015/10/30/jackets-notebook.html

Forward Brandon Saad missed practice on Thursday because of a stomach flu-like symptoms and did not make the trip.

“We just don’t want it to be contagious,” coach John Tortorella said, “so he will not be playing (tonight).”

Instead, we got multiple quotes from Jarmo, Torts, Cam, etc saying they didn't really know what was wrong with Joey while he was away.

I don't believe in big conspiracies, but I also don't think Occam's razor points to the flu as being what was wrong with Joey in this case.

This is something that will be revealed in a Torts biography or autobiography twenty years from now.

I wonder if it was something mental?

I trust the driver to drive The Bus, if the ride doesn't meet my expectations, I get off at the next stop.

I normally can tell when you guys throw in a "subtle" insult or compliment, but, I'm not sure what ur getting at here. Nothing?

Apology accepted? :D

No way, it's obviously cholera, mange, drop foot, and exposure to mustard gas.

Again, what has been repeated over and over to the "nothing to see here" clan, is that a "common" or 'ockhams razor' type theory WOULD have been told to us. Ryan Johansen is not the only guy in all of pro sports to keep his "medical history" private.

Nearly every "diagnosis" you guys have claimed it MUST be has been disproved.

Now we are pretty much to an STD or that "he doesn't care". Since this type of **** has been proven to be talked about multiple times, what do you think Ockham thinks it is?

However SOME OF YOU MUST REMEMBER my analogy on Jojo being a tall blonde playboy model!! Ehhh....:naughty::help::shakehead

Maybe it is ALL CONNECTED....

That only applies when you have multiple theories that explain the data equally well. We don't have any.

We have 2. He's sick or he's lazy.

He gets sick with a mystery illness that causes him to be sluggish and he returns within a week.

He's out of shape.

Pick one.

I quoted this post but could just as easily quoted others that have this tone. I am not sure people realize the level of discipline, dedication and motivation required to make the "major leagues" in any sport. Talent alone doesn't get one there. Nobody gets there anymore and is out of shape- a euphemism for lazy.

Whatever happened to Johansen it has nothing to do with being lazy. If he was, he would be back in B.C. and not in the NHL.

he looks gassed tonight. Looked good early tho

Yes, that's what I saw as well. That looks like a player who's not at (as the soccer folks would say) "full match fitness."

I just can't get over how this team looked so good in preseason and so bad in the regular season. Yes, I KNOW it's preseason, but still!

Same thing happened in both games he came back. Started really strong and was gliding around huffing and puffing for air on the very next shift - never showing much of anything the rest of the games.

His mystery illness apparently requires about 10 minutes of exertion to reveal its symptoms.
Wonder what else it could possibly be?

if it was any kind of illness (the kind that gets you immediately sent home) I doubt they would let him back on the ice until he was better. So that eliminates things like Mono, etc.

Effort can be as much mental as physical. In my mind coach challenged him "you're out of shape", probably in a way he's never been challenged mentally (he's always been one of the best players, and I'm going to assume no coach has challenged his work ethic). At first he may have acted out, and now he may be mentally beat up because maybe he did realize he's not in great shape for this system, throw in the fact that he has to do more things (especially defensively) and he's mentally out of it right now. Hopefully he comes through pretty quickly, but who knows.

This whole situation has a "who knows" vibe going on.

anemia? Blahblah might "yell" at me again, but based on personal experience, feeling the effects of anemia take a bit of exertion. Floating along in normal life, it didn't bother me. Raking leaves or shoveling snow for 10 minutes or so - I needed to sit down for a bit.

(If anyone cares, it is now under control when I'm taking 1300% of the RDA of iron for my age and gender.)

I appreciate that there are illnesses that could cause the exact same symptoms. Everything from cancer to the flu apparently.

I mean, are people still looking for an explanation? I thought the media and Joey already confirmed it as a fitness and conditioning issue.
