I disagree that the roster as constructed is a trainwreck. However is this ABSOLUTELY a desperation move. Hence the timing and not having a replacement option. But did they really have another option? Could they have gone through the season looking like THIS?

It sucks.

Correct, the roster is not a trainwreck. But the team is.

The roster has star players like Pasta, McAvoy, Marchand and Swayman.

But the team has 4 underperforming players. And they aren't the only ones.

I stated earlier this season I would have liked to seen Cam go down to the locker room and tell the players we aren't changing coaches. And we aren't trading any of you. Some will go back to the minors or be waived. But it's up to the players, sink or swim. If the rest of the season continues like it is, take the high draft pick and run. They did it before when they waited until after the season to fire Kasper, drafted Joe Thornton and were back in the playoffs the next season.

And yes, it sucks.

Great. You had to remind me of the season when a Bruins coach put a Norris Trophy defenseman and HOF'er on left wing.

Really Julien should of been canned during the 2015-16 season. The game where Joonas Kempainen lead all forwards in ice-time should of been the end of it.

Julien was fired during the next season, so it didn't really matter much. I'm sure Sweeney was too gun shy to unload Claude so soon into his GM stint. That was also the season the Bruins got beat 6-1 at home to Ottawa to miss out on the playoffs on the last day of the season. I forget who was (or wasn't) in goal.

We have four players that we can trade quite easily, either now, or at the trade deadline.
Personally, I would trade at least 2 at the deadline as teams over pay that need that addition to get them closer to the cup. I did not include Freddy in the list as I would want to keep him and extend him. Lohrei is our only decent young player with more potential that we need to keep.
Potsy has regressed since last year and is showing very little in the AHL, where he should be a PPG player. Hope he can improve his game and get back to the team soon.

Coyle - 8 team no trade - 5.25 M for one more year
Zacha - 10 team no trade - 4.75M for 2 years
Carlo - 10 team no trade - 4.1M for 2 years
Geekie- RFA

Coyle and Zacha will get you a first rounder for each at the deadline. Personally I would rather take A prospects as we are inept when it comes to drafting and a draft pick is going to take at least 3 years of development to make the team. "A" prospects should be 1-2 years away from making the team.
Carlo - I would trade him for a smaller, more skilled defenceman that can move the puck. Severson and Jack Thompson are two I would target.
Geekie - he should get us a mid round pick, or B prospect.
Not sure to many teams would want Coyle at $5.2 million, and Zacha isn’t exactly a playoff performer for a team to want him at the trade deadline for a playoff run ,what’s he got 1 goal.Lol

Jonas Gustavsson, because Tuukka ate too many buffalo wings and got the runs.

That was the period when they thought they didn't need a quality backup and would use Niklas Svedberg and Gustavsson and both sucked so much they had to overuse Tuukka until he fell apart down the stretch.

No doubt cost the Bruins two playoff appearances, given one year they missed by a tie-break, the other was 2 points out.

Kasper tried Bourque on LW? I never knew that. No wonder he's never coached in the NHL afterwards. He ended up director of Leafs pro scouting during their terrible years coming out of the lockout. Guess he was just as bad as a scout as he was as a coach.

Having a night to think about it I hope Sacco employs a third man high or trap system. Not super exciting but keeping games close would be more entertaining than what we've had this season. Our team is built for this type of system too.

Loves me some Cam Neely as a player. He never struck me as an a-hole or bad person, actually quite he opposite (even though I've never met the man). I'd imagine in his personal life he'd give you the shirt off his back.

His biggest flaw is he's too emotionally invested in this franchise and his emotions get the best of him in his decision making. He's like a Bruin-super fan turned Team President. When someone in his position should be taking a more patient and bigger picture approach with more of long-term view. A calm voice of reason. That's not Cam Neely.
Clearly you’ve never met Cam’s alter ego, Seabass

I believed that the roster constructed this year was better than last year with the additions plus’s the growth of our younger players.

What is happening is not anything I expected. Lindholm can be a very good 1A-B centre. He’s has been in the past and he is not that old. Is he worth his contract? Not currently.

Same goes for the others mentioned here - McAvoy, Swayman, Pasta.
Zadorov is a quality 4 -5 defenceman that provides much needed snarl.

The 4th line was there saving grace for the first dozen games. That needs to be left alone.
Poitras needs to be recalled and slotted into the line up.
A deal needs to be made to add a winger.
Special teams have nowhere to go but up - they are capable.

I say there is no way the Bruins are as bad as they have shown us so far this year.

He tried it, but mostly on the PP. Aside from benching Neely/Stevens all game that was his legacy. Bourque would never say anything because those two were friends and even coached youth together when their kids played.

Yeah, Kasper was an idiot. Putting one of the greatest PP quarterbacks in history on the wing was just one of his many inept moves. But to be fair, Kasper was Sinden's inevitable bargain basement response to his "See I sometimes spend the money" hiring of Sutter, and never should have been in the position to begin with.

Just another case of Harry using his failed free agent and/or coach signings to justify his miserly ways.

No wonder Monty is gone with the ammunition he had to fire.

Elias Lindholm has 9 points, what a catch. (Debrusk and Heinen have 10 points each)
Zadorov is a big lug who is out of position a lot of the time and his only trait is his hitting.
Swayman got his ass in a knot and DS was stupid enough to give in to his demands. The off season was one to be forgotten and the cash flow is all gone.

The so called stars like McAvoy, Pastrnak, Marchand, Swayman, E. Lingholm and support cast like Coyle, Zacha, Geekie, Carlo, etc. are all no shows.

I think it will be very difficult to make a trade that is really going to make a big difference. Who wants any of these under achievers?

Can McAvoy play at least like a 6 million a year defenseman
He has been terrible
Not sure what is up with him. He is in a funk but the whole team is.

Radio hosts calling for an exorcism of management and players today

Lets start the rebuild and cut ticket prices and parking in half

Gotta move Pastrnak and McAvoy to start

Cap going up significantly after next season

McAvoy to Islanders - get Eiserman and a couple of firsts

He’s from LI and Lou is in his 80’s plus Charlie can’t grow a beard so Lou will like that

Pastrnak to LA for Laferriere, Clarke, take back money

They can blow this up quick

Lindholm was best D his contract soon will be bargain - Detroit could deal Danielson

Lets get a quick 4-5 year rebuild grab a couple top 5 picks
Never gonna happen.

Ownership spends to the cap.

Team fills the barn, sells the beer, makes the playoffs-OR ELSE

I agree, the roster has talent but the systems need overhauling. Too many times the team struggles to get shots on net because they dump the puck down low and either lose the battle or win it but send back to the point where its rinse repeat (down low - point ......) .

There is almost no drive at all to the net . The reason the 4th line was effective was because they would drive the net and actually take shots, plus there really is no one at the point with a quality shot ( i hoped Lohrei could fit that bill but its still TBD with him) .

On D they are just a complete mess , the pair juggling , the horrrid play at times of Carlo, Zadorov and Mac. Lindholm was looking good to start the year but then he gets hurt. Peake and Wotherspoon have probably been their most steady defenders which is a problem.

The Quiet Corner
They simply have to get over their aversion to driving to the net (Brazeau and the 4th line are about the only ones who do it on a regular basis) and to shooting the puck because this is the only way they're going to be able to score and win games.

The transition from Montgomery to Sucko should be pretty smooth as they've been playing the style and quality of hockey Joey is known for.
