Dumais is a solid offensive player but he's clearly feasting on the weak Maritimes division.

Against the Maritimes: 15 goals, 20 assists, 35 points in 12 games (2.92 ppg)

Against the other divisons : 4 goals, 9 assists, 13 points in 8 games (1.63 ppg)

The Maritimes division teams are boosting stats for a lot of players so far.

Zach Bolduc, as an example.

Against the Maritimes : 7 goals, 8 assists, 15 points in 6 games (2.50 ppg)

Against the other divisions : 4 goals, 15 assists, 19 points in 11 games (1.72 ppg)

A lot of players have the opportunity to feast on this division. Why are they not dominating like Dumais?

Solid? I give you some solid here... lol

Last season, from all draft eligible players in the CHL
Jordan scored most goals and points.

Because he's the best player in that division?

But like I said, a lot of players have had their share of feasting on that divison and they did. Another example, Josh Roy has only played 3 games, adding 7 points against the Maritimes teams.

Look at Chicoutimi, one of the weakest teams in the league and still scored 19 goals in 3 games during their Maritimes trip last week.

That was a nice argument.

I never said he isn't good. I'm just saying his stats are boosted by playing against the weakest division in the entire CHL. Facts prove that point. No need to be too sentimental about it. His stats would be top 5 even if he played more against teams from the other divisions. :)

Just a casual 3 goal 3 assist Friday night for Jordan Dumais, he makes it look ridiculously easy, he’s got one hell of an IQ, knows who and where to be on the ice and thrives with whoever you put as a line mate. It’s hard to predict what kind of impact player he could at the next level, just a reminder he is still 18! It’s almost not even fair that he’s going to be in the league until the 2023-24 season wraps up, I want to see this guy on Team Canada for the World Juniors very badly. It’s still funny how this guy never went to the CHL Top Prospects game or NHL Combine, they look at size and that’s it. In terms of future development I really hope he can shine at Columbus Blue Jackets training camp and start the season with them, play 9 games and get loaned to the AHL for a quick 2 week stint (there’s loopholes players use) before finishing off his season with Halifax and another World Junior run for the 2023-24 season.

48 points in 20 games! There’s 68 games in the QMJHL. 160+ point pace, we haven’t seen someone that high since Sidney Crosby in 2005, obviously two completely different players but that’s just how impossible it is. I think some of us can agree the game of hockey has changed a lot since then too.

I also want to note that Conor Garland is an inch taller than Jordan Dumais and a whole 14 pounds lighter and he’s an NHL regular. Garland had two back-to-back 129 point campaigns at 18 and 19. Garland was an exceptionally better skater and probably carry’s the same playmaker ability but I believe Jordan beats him in most other categories. It took Conor Garland 2 and a half seasons in the minors before making his jump to the NHL, and made an impact right away. Garland never made Team USA for the World Juniors.

*Little off topic, But for a hockey team who is 2nd in league scoring and has the 4th best goals against. They certainly still feel to need some help on the back end with an experienced goaltender and defender in the back end. I agree with what someone said about the maritimes division being weak but I don’t think that necessarily makes a player the same player then he’d be without the points in a tougher division. If the pucks going into the net, you’re getting better. And a 15 point lead over the next guy in the QMJHL should be enough to explain that. Zachary L’Heureux comes back in 1 week from today, they just got an elite 20 year old in Evan Boucher back, all eyes on Halifax!

Good Luck Jordan!

Halifax will be a tough team to evaluate for their GM before the trade deadline because they mostly play against the bottom half of the league until then. Their biggest challenges will happen in January and February after the trade deadline. I think they will go for it even if their core is still young. I believe they won't go all out this season since they'll have many important returns next season as well. This season, they could add valuable help with an impact 20 yo like McCallum or Biakabutuka on the back end, A.Doucet or Veillette up front.

This makes a lot of sense to me. I'd be curious if there are other stars in the Q that are seeing big bumps vs the Maritimes. The 1.63 ppg number might be more representative of Dumais' talent.

That still leaves a ton of room for hype. 1.63 is a Brad Marchand D+1 type pace, and I've always liked that player comparison for Dumais because of their similar builds.

It's going to be interesting to see how he does when he plays more physical players and better defenses than in the Q. I think there's a big question about how his game will translate.

Literally true about everyone.

A lot of really good hockey players have made a lot of money putting up points playing really bad hockey teams. I don't think it is particularly notable honestly.

Some people just spewing banalities. Great players torch bad teams. Some great insight.

The stats sheet looks like he didn’t play at all. No feast on Saint John today, just a simple 5-0 win. ;)

Not all players' styles get challenged in the same way when they move up. Dumais is really good at exploiting the poor defenses in the Q and the lack of physicality. Dumais' effectiveness (not just talking about the scoring) could trend down hard when facing tougher opposition. In the approx 10 games I've seen him play, I've seen him just let the puck go a couple of times instead of engaging when he could be hit. I've seen him go from the corner to the slot unchallenged by the other team's defense, which will hardly ever happen against pro competition (ie: AHL). I don't have the same concerns for everyone. Take Nathan Gaucher, he doesn't have the same offensive upside imo but the way he plays his game, he should still be a useful player even if his offensive numbers drop in the AHL (I think he's a bit like William Carrier).

In his last 88 games in the Q, Jordan has almost 160 points...

for example, one Connor Bedard
in his last 85 games, 146 points..

different league different opponents,
but no matter how you put it, the other having a higher ppg and that is not the one who is going first overall.

Also, Jordan in his last 88 games has played with very young players while being himself 17 and 18 year old, one gotta also remember Halifax was the youngest team in the Q last season and if not the youmgest this season, one of.

also... Dumais 2022 draft pick, Bedard 2023 draft pick, Halifax is a winning team, Pats are not.

Now im not dissing Bedard, dude is crazy
good, insane player but, Dumais ain't half bad himself either.
He’s not the same level of player, and their ages can’t be ignored.

And this is someone who’s a big Dumais fan and couldn’t believe he went that late in the draft

Always nice to get comments from fans that actually take time to watch the games and give an honest opinion.

He heard his points didnt count against weak teams so he must have decided why bother.

Are you just upset Montreal didnt draft him? You seem very concerned that people get excited about him.

I’d say some people seems upset that everybody isn’t comparing him to Crosby.

I was hoping the Habs would take him in the third round. That’s because I actually like him. I don’t feel the need to act like a fangirl though. And unlike a lot of people here, I actually watch his games. :)
