HF has him pretty much out of the top6 but he's not dropping lower than 8. Think he can land anywhere from after the first 3. He just haven't got the exposure compared to the guys in the NA. No one figured Barkov was going #2 either due to the "European factor". When you have no apparent weaknesses and you're 6"4 with loaded skill & leadership qualities, you go high.

Columbus probably will take him at 8th overall if the top 7 picks are McEichel, Hanifin, Strome, Marner, Werenski, and Provorov. Forward isn't an area of concern in our organization but it makes more sense to take Rantanen than Barzal/Zacha IMO.

I think Barzal would be the choice if he were there but I have no issue if it were Rantanen at #8. Barzal seems like a higher upside guy with a very high hockey IQ. CBJ is heavy at C but it's easier to move a C to a wing than the other way around....

Anybody know how did he do in the Combine? Height? Weight? What teams interviewed him?

Only thing I could find was that he was 3rd in Right Hand Grip test with 174lbs.

Interesting. Would Toronto be likely to trade down? I think taking him at 4 would be a too big of a reach.

#5 player on my board. Wouldn't be surprised to see a team reach.

Heights and weights on that article aren't the ones measured at the combine. They are just old Central Scouting numbers which are inaccurate in many cases.

I see. These should be the official numbers:

That's 191.77cm and 95.8kg. Wingspan maybe 50th? Another tweet had a guy with 80 wingspan at 36th.

Check Central Scouting's old pre-combine "measurements" from here and compare them to the ones in that BleacherReport article here. They are exactly the same, in other words not the ones measured at the combine last week. That's been proven already.

In Rantanen's case the CS measurements seem to match with the real ones, but that's no more than a coincidence. Several of the smaller Euro-based players are shorter than how CS lists them and even with the taller guys there's some variation, as shown by the combine results.

Wouldn't read too much into it. I'm sure Toronto has interviews with most players at that 3-15 range.
Regular interviews at the combine, obviously.

However, Leafs management invited him (and paid the extra trip) to Toronto. I doubt they're doing that for everyone.

Toronto has two 1st rounders. They interviewed just about everyone. :)

They had a very large group of players in Toronto including some not at the combine.

Toronto won't take him at 4 and barring a trade up (which they will be trying to do along with a bunch of other teams) won't get him at 24. If you're a Toronto fan I'd be more prepared for a trade down from 24 to get more picks. Calgary has the ammo to move up as one example.

My guess is if Rantanen is somehow drafted to the Leafs it would only be if a current roster player is traded for another high first round pick. What are the chances that's going to happen?

Leafs don't have the ammo (picks) to trade up otherwise.

The 3 players that I'm most interested in the Leafs drafting at #4 are (in Order) Mitch Marner, Matt Barzal, and Lawson Crouse. However I would be just as happy if the Leafs reached for Mikko Rantanen. The more I watch Mikko Rantanen, the more he reminds me of a Mats Sundin type player.

Rantanen falls on the underrated section in this year's draft and somehow getting a feeling some scouting agencies are a bit hesitant to lift him up due to the insane depth of the NA pool.
From Finnish perspective the hype's remained rather calm due to the emerging of Puljujärvi & Laine in the following draft year. This shouldn't affect the upside though, which is just immense. That said, not thinking for a second Leafs would reach him from where they are now.

Since he is the current jewel of my team's junior program, and one of the few bright spots in the team's enduring darkness, I hope he doesn't end up in Toronta even if it means getting selected high. While he seems quite level-headed, I wouldn't wish that type of media scrutiny on anyone, let alone a kid bearing the expectations of being a 1st round pick there.
